Cool to see you start your arcade PCB hobby off with a bang, Vyxx. A complete Ketsui PCB set, hot damn!

Hate to see electrostatic discharge wipe out such a super expensive Ketsui PCB though. Please do keep that in mind. I've had a 100% working Taito G-Net mobo that was zapped by a nasty ESD incident and had to reflash it to get it back to 100% working condition, otherwise it'd utterly useless.

Thanks PC Engine Fax X!

Yeah, it is a big purchase, especially considering it's my first PCB but what can I say, it's half the reason I got into Shmups in the first place, and I finally had the money to get one, so I thought why not.

There's a big difference between a shmup fan that always loved the genre and finally has the spare cash for an awesome kit.. and a game fan that decides to try out shmups and grabs a Ketsui kit.

True enough. I've been playing Shmups my whole life, I probably spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of my childhood living in arcades. Shmups Have always been my favorite genre, but I just never had the ability to get into PCBs. I've never had the opportunity to get a cab, and it turns out that I finally had the chance to get a Supegun, so I jumped on the chance.

Ketsui is a great start. If I had more pocket money I would've wanted an Ibara Kuro kit as my first pcb. Great to see you get the pcb you were looking for. Superguns are nice, I'd encourage you to continue the good fight in finding a cab though. I think they really make the experience. Wonder how bad shipping is once it crosses the border as Ken would probably ship a cab into Canada.

Not sure on How bad shipping would be, but customs is a bitch. Anything that comes into Ontario gets a 13% HST Tax. So, with insurance of $1500 will get around $195 in customs fees alone

Man customs is such a scam adding a (import tax?) to something just for buying out of country should only apply to items easily attainable within the country itself. Seems like that tax was only recently implemented too (July 1, 2010).

Congrats on the game!! Excellent first step into the wide world of jamma! Cave's finest IMO!

If you are really after a cab, I'm sure we can find you one locally. 8)

Astro's are fairly common(for candys) in Ontario.

So the real question now is, when you gonna come to a meet?

you could get a feel for playing on a cab to test the waters before taking the plunge

You're just in London, ya?

I miss ketsui

I'd love to come out to a meet. I'm in London, and make my way out to Toronto to visit family every now and again. Perhaps I could arrange a a visit next time you guys have a meet 8)
I'd love to get a cab, but I haven't had much luck with looking (and not really too sure where to look either).
Any info you've got would be greatly appreciated!

Also, Ketsui is kicking my ass ahaha

What might work better is just let me know when you can make it to town, and I will host a meet to coincide. :)

As for cabs, just keep an eye on craigslist and kijiji(like every day) and also the CGCC forums sometimes see the odd candy pop up.

The other option is to keep in touch with starburst(a coinop company here in toronto) who often host auctions and stuff, and get the odd candy in as well.

Patience is key though. They come up, but you gotta jump on them, so put some cash aside and cross your fingers.

I will keep my eyes peeled for ya' too. :)

This game is so fucking FAST! Can't even score a cool million yet :(

Feveron is a fine example of how playing emulated games is cool, but playing the OG hardware IN A CABINET
....games like this are totally why we all have this hobby, IMHO.

For Matskat,

Yep, by selecting speed #4, Dangun Feveron/Fever SOS PCB is quite an insane & fast Cave shmup experience not to be missed. Don't forget about the cool hidden caravan shooting mode + hidden cat character (of Uo Poko PCB fame) to play with as well.

Bonus Feveron/SOS Protip: Just add a cool motorized mini disco ball set atop the ol' candy cab properly illuminated with a spotlight & you're good to go. Lower or turn off the main room lighting completely for some "far out" ambient lighting effects. Just groovy, dude!

Got it about a month ago but only just recently got the proper F3 mobo to play it on, JP region version. Love the soundtrack in this game.

My bad, it is sort of important to at least type the name of the game when the title screen is in Japanese. Fixed it.

PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Only the collective minds at Irem could come up with some really wacky concepts and title worthy of the "Ninja Baseball Bat Man" PCB. It'd sure be nice to look at some the concept sketches and characters developed for it. Irem should do a proper sequel to it. Yes, the original JPN region variant of NBBM PCB is the one to own/play despite it's uncommonality factor. Plus the fact that it supports up to four friends or foes simultaneously for an all-out comical brawler that really doesn't take it self seriously.

When one sees crazy octopus and squid characters donning shades, y'know something's definitely up. It's easy to see where the inspiration came from with Irem looking at Red/Hudson Soft's Air Zonk title and making a crazy coloful and wacky arcade brawler. Even playing it on Mame/Mame32 emulation doesn't do this game justice...you gotta play the real deal that is the NBBM PCB version.

PC Engine Fan X! ^_~
Heh, actually it was from the mind of guy named Drew Maniscalco. Recently bumbed to http://www.ninjabaseballbatman.com/, there's an interview telling the story of the game there. And some original concept art too!

For hardtokill,

Thanks for that very informative link about the world of Ninja Baseball Bat Man -- sorry to hear that it got a very limited release worldwide (only a scant 43 U.S. region NBBM PCB kits sold through Irem of America's arcade division -- my local arcades never got in such a NBBM PCB conversion kit whatsoever...no wonder why it got such a very limited distribution for the American arcade market). I shall enjoy my treasured NBBM PCB. Would be cool of Irem to do a proper sequel to NBBM and/or get an OVA anime of NBBM going. Would crazy and insane to see the world of NBBM come to life through the vivid world of anime indeed.
