Oh, I dunno, Japan, maybe? If you don't believe me, here are the Ketsui PCB auctions that closed this week:jonny5 wrote:dropping? where?undamned wrote:As much as Ketsui for 360 is still in limbo [for all we know], the PCB price is steadily dropping. If we never get the 360 port, at least the PCB is more accessible now.

its still $900-$1000.....and i would blame the economy for any drops rather than a 'maybe' port that, even if released, will probably be very bad
PCB w/ Original Full Factory Art for 84,697 JPY on 06/14/2009 Welcome To Reality.
PCB for 72,890 JPY on 06/17/2009 Welcome To Reality.
PCB w/ Original EVAC folder and card case for 71,000 JPY on 06/18/2009 Welcome To Reality.
PCB w/ Copied Art for 79,000 JPY on 06/19/2009 Welcome To Reality.
If this were sales in the US I could blame the economy, but this is in Japan. Are you saying the Japanese have stopped caring about Ketsui?

yup, the relative collapse of the exchange rate between GBP and the Yen has offset the drop in price too.
for UK/euro members, those are not exactly bargain prices. £500+ is pretty much exactly the same price as it would be buying here on the forum
At 120 yen to the pound, it was looking horrific for importers. Gained since then but still short of the 200+ (or the 248 yen days of yore!)

Indeed, even the cheapest auction that was linked to equates to £445, and that is pre-shipping, middleman fees, exchange rate crap and VAT@15% (not to mention the Parcel Force clearing fee of £13). Once you are done with all that it's more likely to be approx £575-590, which isn't much cheaper than I've seen 'em go for (they've been averaging £600 shipped over here in the past 6 months).jpj wrote:for UK/euro members, those are not exactly bargain prices. £500+ is pretty much exactly the same price as it would be buying here on the forum
'Course, if you've got someone who'll act as a cheap middleman, things would be different.
A price drop in Japan is only any use once the landed price drops below the domestic rates in a country. I'm hoping it does drop, so I can re-buy it on the cheap

Interesting news...
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/0 ... ntroversy/The Big DoDonPachi Controversy
5pb admits source code copied for troubled 360 shooter.
Did it seem a little odd to you when 5pb. suspended shipments on the Xbox 360 version of DoDonPachi back in March? The company cited "various circumstances" for the stoppage, which came over a month after the original version's release.
Today, one possible "circumstance" came to light.
The company posted a notice at its official site disclosing that in making the Xbox 360 version of the game, fully titled DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra, developer Aqua Systems had made use of the source code from PS2's DoDonPachi Daioujo. The developer produced the 360 version based off the source code, which it had obtained from a company that managed the code.
This may sound like a good way to speed up the porting process. The problem is, Aqua Systems didn't actually have the rights to the source code.
5pb. learned of the issue after Cave and Arika, publishers of, respectively, the arcade and PS2 versions of the game, asked that it look into the matter. This request came after the game's release.
In its notice, 5pb. said that, as the 360 version's publisher, it takes full responsibility for the copied source code, as well as for the trouble caused by the shipment stoppage. The company did not specifically state that shipment stoppage was due to the source code issue, so it could be unrelated.
The 5pb. notice also contained an apology for delays in a promised bug fix update for the game. An update of some form was promised back in March but never surfaced. According to the notice, it's still on the way.
In closing, the company said that it takes the source code issue seriously and that it will be putting care into fixing its development system and quality management in order to avoid a repeat occurrence.

...and why 5pb would even want to license cave games if they don't give a shit about them?

Holy fuck, this is a crazy interesting development.
No wonder Mihara had a big red text on his blog telling he would "not comment on anything".
Two reasons this is hilarious:
1. Mihara tore apart the port perfection, in his first post about the game telling people he considered it 30% of the arcade quality.
2. 5pb is an even shittier company than we thought.
Really this is just amazing to me.

Hang on, does this mean that the glitches that were being complained about by all those people who own both the PS2 and 360 versions were also present in that PS2 conversion?
Joke isn't just on 5pb and Arika here, but also Cave. They gave these numpties the licence for the 360 conversion, after all.

Reading 2ch and 5pb's site, looks like they're going to pay CAVE and Arika damages, and also somehow update the game though one wonders how they will legitimately do this.Elixir wrote:So are they going to permanently recall the game?
Mihara basically tore apart his own game. Hahaha.
Sakari Masaki is already being burned in effigy on 2ch, but I have to wonder if it wasn't just him being an achievement whore and outsourcing the development to this Aqua systems place which led to its employees just jacking the code.
Ketsui is currently still on the 5pb page FWIW.
Also, I was definitely one of the ones complaining about this port, but it wasn't about the port accuracy which I had basically no problem with, it was the crippling glitches that could affect a scoring run as well as the undergrad flash project interface that I objected to and still do. Keep in mind that Aqua and 5pb apparently altered the code in addition to copying it, which they would have had to do to make it resemble Black Label.

Clearly those bugs aren't there, or people would have noticed long before the 360 version came out. What prob. happened is they copied and/or "referenced" some of the PS2 code, and wrote some of it again from scratch.E. I imagine if they started completely from scratch, it would have been even worse. ::shudder::

Yeah, that's what I thought. So the lulz at Arika slating their own work aren't really lulz at all.
I know I've heard of Aqua Systems before - convinced of it - but I can't place them.
I was really looking forwards to Ketsui - never played it before, but loved Death Label (stupid tap-tap-tap accidental [?] scoring system notwithstanding). What do we reckon the chances are that Cave'll try and wrestle the licence back to issue to another team, rather than abandoning the idea of ever getting the game into the home? It seems cursed.
