I'm still either getting a launch Wii, or second release Wii... I don't care about ps3 or xb360... Hell, I have a ps2 with ONE game... the one that came with it.

I'm not usually one to play favorites, but I hope Sony goes down in flames with this whole PS3 business for several reasons:

1. Their cocky attitude.

2. Not being able to upgrade the lower cost version. Bascially their gonna take you for everything they can upfront.

3. So far it looks like the same old GTA, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear, etc.. rehashes, nothing new or inspiring.

4. The price is reidiculous.

5. The horror that will be their first-gen Blu-Ray drive. Hell, they couldn't get a plain old DVD drive right.

If Nintendo puts full backwards compatibility in the Wii, I will buy you a coke. If it doesn't, and only has the same output capabilities as the Gamecube (and knowing Nintendo, this is the more likely) then they won't look as good. That's why I was assuming, and bold-typed it for everyone's benefit.

HDTV's where you can turn down the resolution? Who? What? Doesn't matter as those TV can't properly handle/display the 15khz signal. As annoying as everyone else may have found Recap, he had a great, short and to the point article that put the complain in laymens terms.
How many people are going to play their Wii's on HDTV's anyway, knowing, as everyone does by now, that the system won't be HD compatible? And in any case, there are still HDCRTV's that you can buy. Cripes, most people who play NES games on their PC's do so on PC's that have HD monitors, and, having tried out some NES games on my own, they look fine. Ok, so you're talking about Ebay, where you can buy beat up boxes and manuals, and cartridges that the seller hasn't even bothered to clean.

There's no good reason why Nintendo wouldn't include the instructions for each game. If Nintendo can get the games out of third-party companies, they can sure as heck get the instructions. Out of all the thousands of games that will be available for download, no Wii owner will have played every single one, and Nintendo knows this, not to mention much younger gamers who will play the Wii and who have never heard of most of these old systems. And assuming the NES games, for example, don't have instructions, how difficult is it to get online and download instructions or a FAQ??

At any rate, I think the PS3 is going to flop as well. The Wii and the 360 have a better line-up of games, IMO, and you'll probably be able to purchase both for the cost of a PS3. I may get one when the price drops, and when Sony finally makes it clear whether or not the PS3's supposed region-free capabilities extend to the PS2 and the PS1. But either way, a J-PS2 or even PSone looks a lot sexier then this over-priced console, with games that look no better then 360 games.

I agree with Bloodflowers about trailers that look different from the actual gameplay. Dan Hsu, chief editor for EGM, wrote an excellent editorial in which he said that gamers need to DEMAND real gameplay footage out of these companies, and I agree. What else is going to stop it?

The same amount of people who have HDTVs and wind up buying a Wii?

Sorry dude, but if I had a HDTV, the Wii and the 360 would be hooked up to it. While the DC, Saturn, PC-FX, Genesis, and eventual PC-Engine Duo RX would be on the TV I have now (flat screen 20" w/ S-Video).

I got a 47in widescreen HDTV, I love playing my CUBE, PS2, etc on it. I am excited for the Wii, 480p CUBE games look great (Most CUBE game support it like Metroid 1+2, Mario, etc). I am excited for the Wii, it WILL look great on my TV, the games support Widescreen and 480p at the E3. They will look nice and sharp. Myamato (sp?) said companies can do higher resolutions in an interview, if I remember correctly, if they choose.

I am looking really forward to it. I like a lot of PS2 games too, but not enough to pay $600 and I am a big gamer.

After that promo the game could turn out to be like Mariokart. Not likely of course, but you get the point. Nintendo scored well here as much of the stuff shown was real gameplay, for better or worse.

I wish there were some way to collectively tell the companies 'please only show us trailers with some real gameplay footage', but the trend seems firmly towards imitating hollywood at this point.

Given that Halo 3 in theory was the in game engine... I don't think its too much to assume that the possibility is there that Fable 2 and Forza 2 weren't CG movies, but displays of the in game engine much like Halo 3 supposedly was.

At which point... the 360 is just f'ing crazy.
Don't forget that in addition to the trailers, there were a number of demos released on XBL for upcoming 360 games as well. If you want to see what the 360 can do take a look at the MotoGP '06 demo. There's some incredible 60FPS graphics there, too bad the control is such a pain. Lost Planet is another one that's worth checking out.

Bleh... another game I won't go near.

As for the discussion before, I play my NES on a 50 rear projection tv, and I love it, so the Wii will look even sweeter, i imagine. When it comes down to it, if I want to play something in uber-high res, I'll just put it on my computer, and play it on the 21" monitor I have for it.

Unfortunately G4 took care of that, with 50 cent himself all over one of their correspondants, of course it was scripted, but he was practially making out with her, after touting his next dumb-are game.

BTW, does anyone have the video for 360 Project Slyph? There was one, but it was taken off the net, and I'd love to see some footage of this game.

I'm down with the Wii, but I still can't wait for the new Cube Paper Mario, as well as PS2 Okami, and God Hand looks sweet as well!

Too bad there's nothing more on GCN Kirby's Adventure...I was really looking forward to playing that on my Cube.

Cripes, most people who play NES games on their PC's do so on PC's that have HD monitors, and, having tried out some NES games on my own, they look fine.
Those emulators have options to at least make them look closer to what they were. I will bet my house there will be no such option on the Wii emulators. I've been wrong before, but this will likely not happen. If they were, well then, +5 points for Nintendo.
Ok, so you're talking about Ebay, where you can buy beat up boxes and manuals, and cartridges that the seller hasn't even bothered to clean.
C'mon, Dave. Yiou know good and well there are:

2: Stuff in decent condition on Ebay.

Does nobody else not find this the dumbest thing? Nintendo have apparently strived to be right exactly in the middle. Now true low-res for emulators, and no high definition for new games.

Wow, have I mentioned how cynical you guys are with regards to old games?

On another note: My hopes for the coming years:

1. Not having to pay a $600 pricetag for the next Guilty Gear game.

2. That Treasure shmups will go cross-platform.

3. That my PS2 will still work in the next few years to come.

4. That Ken Kutaragi gets fired.

5. Sony cuts their PS3 pricetag into 1/3 of what it was EVENTUALLY.

6. That Square-Enix and Nintendo finally re-unite as far as releasing major Final Fantasy games go, Valkyrie Profile series included.

7. That Radiant Silvergun finally gets a port in the form of Wii.

8. That Wii can connect to any PC monitor easily with high quality.

9. That Super Robot Wars TRPG series finally comes to America regularly, along with it's respective giant robot anime series both old and new. (Gunbuster, Diebuster...I'm looking at YOU. Please Gainax, please...oh and GaoGaiGar too!)

10. That Kid Icarus makes a comeback in the gaming world. I love that little guy Pit.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I believe one of them IS coming over for the DS or the GBA. Not sure which.

Dude, most of the people on Ebay who sell cartridges do not take the time to clean them, I don't care how good their feedback is. And I don't give a rip about carboard Nintendo boxes.

I don't see any reason why Nintendo wouldn't try and make the games look as close to the original games as possible. And so what if there's no High-Def for new games?? You can still hook up the Wii to an HDTV, and the graphics in games like Sonic Wildfire, Metriod Prime 3, and Super Mario Galaxy look fantastic.

Whatever, I'm down with the Wii and the Virtual Console, and sick of arguing about it.

So, what about GCN Kirby? HAL hasn't given any indication that it's been cancelled, but no new E3 screens or videos. :?: I was told on the Nintendo Nsider forums that HAL likes to release games right before the end of a console's life-span, but I see no evidence for that.

Nice screens for Golden Axe; I can't wait to see some video footage of it! :D

Hey, its a start! :)
That is Original Generation, which doesn't include any anime series. So Altus can bring it over without paying any license fees.

Honestly, why don't we leave people who wants to play with old, space-consuming hardware which is full of dust and it's a pain to setup alone, while in the same time we just leave people who wants to pay for something that is 20 years old software to be played in a crap resolution and an unapropriate control setup alone too?

Geez, can't we just have fun and let people have fun too?

Sure we can, which is why I said I'm not going to argue about this any longer. And I've been trying to talk about games, like GCN Kirby and the new Spyro with no responses.

@Blade, I think Kid Icarus will make a comeback on the Wii-he's already going to appear in the Wii Super Mario Smash game, so why not make an exclusive title?

Might not be legit... but this is supposedly a poll from Famitsu.

Sony is crying on a toilet now if thats real...

It would appear that Nintendo has found Japan's sweet spot. And if Sony can't dominate Japan... well, MS, despite being hated 'round here and on Neo-geo.com, is really making big strides in both of the western markets.

Oshi. Sony's press conference was really disappointing, though. All I saw (I saw the entire thing, but the only things that stood out of the crowd were) someone failing miserably at killing crabs, an interactive Yugioh game, and the Warhawk interaction with the motion sensors. The rest was sports and other rubbish which was pretty boring.

I'm a bit confused on controller issues with the Wii. Will I be able to play LoZ Twilight Princess, Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, etc. with the GC or the other Wii non remote controller if I wish? It seems that the GC controller could be used with those 3 games. I understand that there will be some Wii games that use the Wii controller functionality exclusively (Wario Ware).

Just got the first one for less then $5 at Gamecrazy, and it's pretty fun! I like it better then the first Crash Bandicoot game, at least.

Interesting Famitsu Poll-as much as I already dislike the PS3, I cannot imagine Microsoft beating Sony in Japan.

@JP, please let me know when you get the Project Slyph video up on Yousendit.com; thanks! :D
