as in technically based on the 360 version? or "seems to be the previous collection" as in the same three games?AGermanArtist wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 3:26 pmIt seems to be the previous collection with additional music.

Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
It's just the 3 games repackaged with what looks like different wallpapers, a new title screen and alternative music. Don't see the point if you already have the X360 version and a Xbox still in use, or on Xenia. I play it regularly on Xenia and it runs great. I'll most likely stick with that unless it's in a sale at some stage.

Large variety of ships to choose from.
Love the graphics and fx
Music is objectively obnoxious.
I really like them and would rather they'd continued in this visual style than the current Moss Raiden games.
Hard. Fire Shark hard. I have to play on Easy.

Have you played Viper Phase 1? They are close to that. Very, very tight gameplay, crunchy enemies, sweet spots that trigger bonus items, ability to wreck bosses quickly if done right, a lot of playable ships, charge (hold) shots, some bullet grinding, etc.
They are the accumulation of every good shmup up to that point.
If you can’t tell, I hold them to very high regard.

Agreed. Especially the soundtrack for Raiden Fighters Jet. One of the worst shmup soundtracks I’ve ever had the displeasure of hearing. Way too many ear grating high pitched parts and it’s just awful overall. I can probably count on one hand the number of just barely “decent” tracks. The whole Fighters trilogy has god tier gameplay but if they had actually stuck with the same style of good music exactly like Raiden II/DX’s soundtrack it would’ve been the perfect package.Creamy Goodness wrote: ↑Mon Nov 03, 2025 5:14 amHopefully the arranged soundtracks address the music. So all this then probably means no attract mode, right?

The 360 ports were made by Gulti and Success with the latter's money. Even if there's still some ex-Gulti staffer at Moss', hardly they're using this collection as the base for Remix' code, which likely will just be emulation instead of actual ports. And hardly they're getting the same love regarding the refresh rate issue, but we'll see, I guess.

Raiden Fighters music is peak. The only other stuff that comes to mind is Fighter & Attacker.
Many moons ago, one wise senpai of electronica music who also was an arcade playa (c) told me that basically there is pretty few electronica music in stg soundtracks besides few exceptions (e.g. Milestone soundtracks) as majority is chiptune-based synth rock or whatever instead. 11 years later, I see this tragedy stays true.same style of good music exactly like Raiden II/DX’s soundtrack

Thank you for saying something! All this hate had me questioning my love for the soundtracks. I went back and listened to them.... still bangers! Now I need to check out the Fighter and Attacker soundtrack

Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
I'm a fan of many different variants of electronic/club music. I even have a soft spot for some Hardcore/Gabba, particularly from the 1991-94 era. I've been going to raves/clubs since 1990 inc Spiral Tribe. I operate an independent label featuring some of the world's most respected producers inc Force Mass Motion (one of the originators of the Hardcore genre) and supported by some of the world's premier DJs, and tbh I think the music is fucking awful and not something you'd ever hear in a Rave event or a club, it's almost parody level. Fortunately the games are good enough where this doesn't pose enough of an issue to warrant ignoring them. I guess you'd probably like this if your only exposure to electronic music is from listening to cornball shit like 2 Unlimited.

What are we, flexing our music-related background now?
Agree to disagree, then.
Here's my top-20 electronix albums of all time, just to support that I listen to basically all genres out there, old and new.

Boss themes from Raiden Fighters 1 & 2 is perhaps the most powerful and raw thing that exists in shmup. Very few things are one this level among it, I might name Armed Police Batrider music with it's FM synthesized metalcore madness and those gabber "true final boss" themes from Cave and Milestone games.it's almost parody level

As you can see on this demo play of this port, at around 1:02:55 in Jet there is a black bar glitch on the left side on the background, and this same glitch also present in MAME (still is to this day) as well....

For me personally I prefer a certain type of music when it comes to shmups. I prefer the upbeat, jazzy, power pop stuff you would find in like a Konami game. If EDM style of music is used, I prefer it to be more upbeat. I am a fan of EDM and Metal, but I am just not feeling it when hard music is used in shmups. Especially not the hard house stuff that is used in the Raiden Fighters games. I feel like that is more of an acquired taste.qmish wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 9:27 pmMusic is objectively obnoxious. The OST's truly are grating.Y'all disappont me. Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
Never really player Raiden Fighters since I haven't had access and Mame is more trouble than I could bother.
So I had a look at Raiden Fighters on youtube, trying to hear music. Problem is, I did not hear any music. I heard some muffled rumbling. When boss came, there was weird brr-brr-brr sound on the background. Was that music? Maybe I can guess what they were going after for, but that kind of style would require proper blasting sounds with big bass speakers. Compressed like that it's a joke.
I'm no expert on electronic music though. Like, at all. I got some Prodigy on vinyl and that's it. And sometimes I go to techno clubs. In fact, I'm off to a techno club now so gotta stop writing.

Thx for that. So not only it's emulation, very likely it even is just Mame, which has this driver far from finished despite its age. That's worse than expected, indeed.copy-paster wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 6:11 pm As you can see on this demo play of this port, at around 1:02:55 in Jet there is a black bar glitch on the left side on the background, and this same glitch also present in MAME (still is to this day) as well....

Knowing that Seibu SPI is a beast to emulate and not hiring Hamster for that picking Mame instead says a lot of what's Moss these days. A joke company, little more.

The Seibu SPI carts of Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2: Hell Dive & Raiden Fighters Jet all are perfectly capable of outputting in true stereo sound output afforded of the on-board Yamaha YMF271-F (OPX) and Zilog Z80 (8 MHz).
If your candy cab is capable of accepting stereo input from such arcade pcbs (such as Neo-Geo MVS, Sega Titan ST-V, Seibu Kaihatsu SPI & even Taito G-Net), it sure does make quite a difference compared to listening to it in "mono" audio format.
----------
In fact, the Taito G-Net motherboard can be hooked up to a pair of 100 watt @ 8 ohms passive powered bookshelf speakers directly without breaking a sweat seriously -- the on-board MOSFET heatsink remains "cool to the touch" (it sure packs a punch, especially when outputting in stereo sound, indeed, with the Taito G-Cards of Psyvariar Medium Unit & Psyvariar Revision). I was blown away and am throughly impressed by how powerful that particular speaker setup truly sounds with some serious arcade hardware at it's best as "it ain't no slouch" in the audio output department for sure.

I wouldn’t deny that I would LOVE to purchase that sweet Raiden Fighters PCB some day. I wouldnt be surprised if the audio would be more impressive that way - as in many of my pcb’s it often is.

What a bizarre bullet point from the product listing:
"Support 16:9 Screen - The aspect ratio of game screen is 16:9 , 1920×1080, and game screen will be composed of the original 4:3 game screen and the wallpaper"
So it's not 16:9, but there's wallpaper to fill the space... I mean, sure? Did anyone assume only 4:3 screens would be supported? This is the first bullet point too. Weird.
