Cave x Steam teaser!
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Fantastic news.
Is this steam only, or will it also arrive on gog at some point?

Horrible Steam/Illuminati DRM-only. No other possibilities exist in any real or hypothetical reality. Steam will get your personal information and throw it at the NSA, and you will become pregnant with the antichrist.guyot wrote:Fantastic news.

Depending on Cave's stamina we may be seeing the beginnings of the 3rd incarnation of the "CAVE Shooting Collection" (Steam):mdsfx wrote:Was it confirmed that more than one game is coming to steam? I see people using the words "games" (plural)...
CAVE Shooting Collection X360
CAVE Shooting Collection Kan X360
... which of course didn't include DoDonpachi as that was an "Instant Brain" unlockable, nor "Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi", nor "DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label Extra" which where handled by 5pb. Games (Tachyon for Ketsui).

Seriously, I'd just be happy if I finally got a version of Mushi to play that wasn't touchscreen-based.

Forbes has online contributors who write about all sorts of things, video games included. Not really a big deal ultimately.Blackbird wrote:We're on Forbes o_O? Is this real life?Teufel_in_Blau wrote:http://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder ... -to-steam/

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Huh, that sucks. If I may ask, is it Steam as a program that's the problem, the need to create accounts, and so forth, or just a persistent Internet connection? Because if you can connect one of them to the Internet just for a minute (long enough to log in on Steam), even by using something like a USB mobile modem, then you can set Steam to offline, install the game from a backup, and it'll work forever. A hassle, but it's doable unless you have specific reasons not to want to connect the machines to the Internet ever.kane wrote:Nothing wrong with having your fun, but please understand that there could be other, less philosophical and more technical, reasons besides holding a DRM-free stance for asking for a non-Steam game.Giest118 wrote:Horrible Steam/Illuminati DRM-only. In my case, I am running a small shmuppers club at my company, but we can't install Steam because our recreational computers are air-gapped from the network and Internet. We choose and buy 6-10 copies of a shmup every month, we have even imported doujin disks from Japan at times. The company pays for it, money is not an object, but Steam is.
Bottom line: Prospective customers are demanding something from Degica, in a thread about a game release, started by a Degica employee. No one said "Steam sux" et al. so far, everybody's being reasonable adults. Degica will consider the feedback (or not), and depending on the outcome we'll buy the game (or not). Simple as that.
On the general DRM-free front, maybe it's more worthwhile to ask Degica to make the Steam copy itself DRM-free? Then you could just copy it on a pendrive and distribute it to the machines. A game being distributed on Steam doesn't necessitate it using Steamworks DRM, that's up to the publisher. Given that whether GOG wants to distribute the game is beyond Degica's control.
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
It's also up to whether Degica themselves wish to release it on GOG, as it's certainly not a no brainer unfortunately. There are costs associated with supporting each extra platform and rolling out updates.CWM wrote:Given that whether GOG wants to distribute the game is beyond Degica's control.
I suspect it'll depend on how good the CC GOG sales were for Degica. Hopefully it sold well on GOG.

@kane:
Yeah you only need to connect once, I don't see the problem.
Then never connecting again would certainly mean to miss fixes, updates and possibly new contents.
Otherwise just ask Degica for an enterprise group purchase lol. Maybe they'll send you individual installers each with their own 'club' password ?

I think it's easier to just skip all the "maybe you could try" nonsense and just have a DRM-free installer. It solves the problem.Xyga wrote:@kane:

Assuming you're not worried about making most of your "sales" on torrent sites. Mind you, I like to buy DRM-free myself when given the option, but I also understand why many developers are leery of it.Chacranajxy wrote:I think it's easier to just skip all the "maybe you could try" nonsense and just have a DRM-free installer. Oh, I get why. But let's not pretend that the games aren't going to end up there before launch anyway.BulletMagnet wrote:Assuming you're not worried about making most of your "sales" on torrent sites. Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
I guess not many people here know it but steam now allows a refund if you played the game less than 2 hours and bought it earlier than 2 weeks ago. So maybe it's not the best idea to have a completely drm-free copy there.CWM wrote:On the general DRM-free front, maybe it's more worthwhile to ask Degica to make the Steam copy itself DRM-free?

Could this mean that we may have Mushihimesama HD in our PCs without the need for a Japanese XBOX 360?

Hmmm, interestingBlackbird wrote:CAVE is developing a game for PC. Without giving away too much, it's a real arcade game and a fan favorite, so you can put your fears of bad mobile ports or freemium games aside.

I would buy both btw!

For the love of god, please don't let this beautiful thread turn into a DRM debate.
@Blackbird and shinimai
I have no idea how many of you guys/gals are involved in this thing but just so you know: we, the CAVE fans, appreciate your work and hope that your guys work/risk will bear fruit and turn into a lot of good old hard cash! You're doing gods work, please continue!

I know it's early days but any rough time frames known? As awesome as all this steam shmup news has been in recent months it does feel like we are always stuck in waiting.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Not to bring you down, but Forbes' website does post a certain amount of video gaming content on its site and I think it's basically irrelevant to 99.x% of the people who visit. I imagine they get it for almost-free.Blackbird wrote:We're on Forbes o_O? Is this real life?Teufel_in_Blau wrote:http://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder ... -to-steam/
But it's nice to be able to browse a site like Forbes' and get the news I want to read.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
I am aware of that, but I don't think it really matters. Buying the game (spending actual money), installing it, making a copy, asking for a refund, and then waiting for Valve to process it (which I assume they're not very prompt about, as with most of their processes), is, all in all, more work than just torrenting the GoG version. So if they're actually willing to have it on GoG, the "easy piracy" angle is already covered.vector7 wrote:I guess not many people here know it but steam now allows a refund if you played the game less than 2 hours and bought it earlier than 2 weeks ago. Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Hard to get excited about this...Are they going to port Donpachi, DoDonpachi, ESPRaDe, Ibara and ESPGaluda to Steam? Since I've own most 360 ports already.
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
So do I. I'm more excited to have any of these games on a platform that's not physically decaying (my 360 is on its last legs) and for the exposure of Cave games to a larger audience.MSZ wrote:Hard to get excited about this...Are they going to port Donpachi, DoDonpachi, ESPRaDe, Ibara and ESPGaluda to Steam? Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Based on Blackbird's comments, this is almost certainly SH-3, which combined with "fan favorite" means either Deathsmiles or Futari.
Deathsmiles seems more likely, since it's closer to the "correct" aspect ratio for most people's monitors.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
His comments about thinking that it wasn't just a packaged ROM + emulator based on what he had seen.
Since the pre-SH-3 games are pretty much perfect in MAME at this point, and the slowdown and audio emulation on the SH-3 games still isn't quite right, the fact that he could tell that it was "not ROM + emulator" means it's almsot certainly SH-3.
