The Dark Souls II poison zone (with the Medusa boss) is probably my favorite in the series. I like the N64 fog.
Yeah Harvest Valley is pretty good fun. It is a shame that Mytha is a not particularly challenging boss
The poison pools in Harvest Valley are at least completely opting.
I've played all the souls games except for Bloodborne and it has always bothered me that roll are executed on the release of the button rather than on press. With enemies being faster and more aggressive than ever before it would have been really nice if a new control option was implemented, where the roll button is dedicated just to rolling, sprinting is toggled with the left stick, and jumping is done by clicking the left stick while sprinting.
I'm really enjoying this game though so far. I've come across some pretty spectacular views.

Ugh, mine is here tomorrow. Amazon Prime gives a nice discount for new games (20% off), but patience is required.

Is anyone using a Dualshock controller for the PC version?
I usually game with a dualshock 2.. but I'd use a 3 if that works, hell I'd even buy a ps4 controller.
It sucks to have these issues, when most indie titles natively support every input device imaginable.

I never even noticed this until Dark Souls III, where I seem to get it all the time even though I press the button just in time. I guess the extra time it takes to let it go is what's screwing up my timings.
I doubt the PC version runs with a non Xbox controller. However there are adapters that make PS3 controller works like Xbox controllers on PC, so it's not impossible.
blog - scores - collection Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.
Finished the game today. I have done all the bosses apart from THAT one.
Overall apart from a small number of very good boss fights, probably 5-6 at the most I found the experience deeply disappointing
Maybe my expectations were too high but I thought the vast majority of the areas were very formulaic.
The bosses where you just aim for a weak point to deal massive damage were the worst ones of them all. Killing a boss by hitting it with a magic swirly storm sword 6 times should not be a thing in a souls game.
I'm glad they corrected some tedious aspects from the first Dark Souls game: weapon elements, interactions with NPCs, equip load, etc. It was oversimplified in Bloodborne, but Dark Souls III is the perfect example of a game appealing to both newcomers and old fans. I feel I can discover more stuff on my own since it's not too obscure or alienating even if I am familiar with the series.
My main complaint is the level design is nothing new. I see exploration the same way as I did in the previous Souls games. Otherwise Dark Souls III is a great improvement overall. I only spent 7 hours on this game so far so my opinion may change.
OK, I'm just starting this game today, so I'm behind everyone else. Nothing much to say other than the Knight class really feels overpowered at the beginning. Was expecting to die in several places, and just beasted my way through it. I'm sure the game will punish me soon. Anyway, seems like a really safe class to start with if you're going for a melee build.

I just finished Cathedral of The Deep. What an amazing area. Every time I thought it was wrapping up, I get another meaningful fork in the road, and it just keeps going on and on. Tremendous variety and great setpieces too.
So far, I think Dark Souls 3 has the best level design in the franchise. But Bloodborne probably still has the best combat and enemy/boss design so far. All fantastic games, but I think BB is still my desert island pick.
Loving this so far though. It is indeed "the same, but better" of Dark Souls series gameplay, but given this is the end of the trilogy, that's exactly what I would hope for and expect. They can do something weird and new for the next game. Blame! Souls pls. Or Bloodborne 2 would be good too. Either one.

Instead I am stuck in the America's where women rule with an iron crotch, and a man could get arrested for sitting behind a computer too long.

I'm pretty much where you are. I started on release day with Pyro, but quite honestly, whenever I tried d to take on a non-standard enemy (knight bastards, big axe bastards) I got my arse served to me. His starting shield is completely shitty, and combined with the faster movement, it felt like I was being pushed to play more along the lines of Bloodbourne. Was struggling enough I thought I might have to give up.
A few hours of frustration in, and I restarted again with the Knight, and I'm finding it a much more Souls experience. And manageable.
There are 2 areas near the start of the game with horrible difficulty balancing. After you get through those the games becomes much better.
Cathedral of the Deep and Farron Swamp both have good geography but atrocious difficulty balancing. Cathedral of the Deep just has way too many enemies outside and on the rooftops and Farron Swamp is so bad it is actually funny.
Power through though and the game gets a lot better!
I won't be able to get this for a few months. Anyone tried keyboard + mouse controls? Does it have good mouselook, or is KB+mouse bad like the first Dark Souls on PC?

My friend has been playing this game with a keyboard and a mouse without any issue. It is well supported on PC and you can customize the controls easily.
I'm not sure I understand what the linearity complaints are based on. I have played all Souls games except for Dark Souls II and I find the exploration refreshing. Keep in mind I just completed Cathedral of the Deep and I am heading to Farron Keep.
Just got the game last night and played a few hours. I also started as a Knight and found the Knight Shield (with 100% Physical) to be extremely helpful.
The first two areas were immensely enjoyable. I have nothing negative to say about the game at this point, early as it is.
I just started last night and have been enjoying what little I have played so far but it's a little jarring to have fog blocking the entrance to a new area while the game loads. I am at Firelink trying to take out the katana wielding npc just outside and when I die and respawn I find myself rolling into a wall of mist for 15 or 20 seconds before I can exit the shrine and retry. Is this a regular occurrence throughout the game?
Bastard rolled off the edge into oblivion on my first encounter.
Got the game yesterday and played for some two hours. Like it so far. Seems like they stepped up the mob rush game. Feels like there are more ambushy type situations in this than the other ones.

Yeah so this is dependent on how fast your hard drive is. The area outside doesn't actually load until you go near the fog gates. For me it's pretty quick as I am running the game from a SSD but at first I didn't even realise where the entrance to the tower was as I thought the fog gate was impassable.
This was fairly early on when I was first getting comfortable/happy with the results. It's performing even better now! Super fun.
^ looks like a fun build. I shelved my dex build for a bit. I was disappointed in the latest patch. Spoiler
it buffed the shit out of certain greatswords. my astora greatsword now does ~40 more points of damage than my carthus curved greatsword (my favorite greatsword. the weaponskill is brutal if you can pull it off nail all hits.)
the great scythe is phenomenal, as is the lucerne (with the right stone). the lothric straight sword is fucking incredible. it's the new baldur side sword. all heavy attacks (1 & 2h) are thrusts. all rolls are thrusts. all 2h heavy attacks are thrusts.
anyways, ive been focusing on a caster. haven't gotten a lot of spells yet though, so he's quite the novice.
