For the moment I think most/all the stuff we have that supports extra stuff on the Pro works like that (not terribly surprising, since a lot of the games in question were released before the Pro existed), but I wouldn't be surprised if more future titles have Pro support "baked in" from the get-go.TransatlanticFoe wrote:Aren't all PS4 games non-Pro and you have to download an update for Pro features?

Re: The PS4 thread
There really isn't much to keep track of. Current release games will play on hardware that is available new through official, regular retail channels. If you haven't upgraded "recently" or buy used then you are on your own. In the post-console world the majority of customers are expected to choose based on the entertainment network content - not hardware/capability/potential - and if you want to take advantage of up-to-date content you will be expected upgrade your hardware when necessary - short of the hardware rental being included in the network subscription fee.TransatlanticFoe wrote:I'd be surprised if they do that, it makes it more difficult for customers to keep track of.

Re: The PS4 thread
Anyone snagging Gravity Rush 2, next week?
I had problems with the first one, and got rid of it. And this looks like it will have a lot of the same problems. But there seems to be improvements that will kind of even it out.
I'm cautiously optimistic. One thing is for sure...it's beautiful.
Also, anyone looking forward to Nioh, coming up in just a few weeks? After the beta, I am psyched. Like, pretty damn psyched.

Re: The PS4 thread
To be honest, since buying the machine, bar Souls 3/Bloodborne, I’ve probably spent more time on indies, and certainly the AA series than on AAA games.
The AA series in particular is a godsend for me. When I first bought most of these games they were for Spectrum/C64, and the rate at which I used to buy games was high enough that as soon as one bugged me I’d switch straight to another. Not that most of them were particularly decent ports anyway. Even when I started to collect Saturn/Neo, I still went about it in a haphazard fashion, buying too many games in one go, and not giving stuff the attention it deserved. This drip feed of releases has been ideal for me, as I’m finally paying proper attention to games that I’ve grown up with but never really dug into. Still missing some of the best titles over here though. Set up a JPN account, but the going rate for PSN cards seems a bit high.
Indie wise, I can’t recommend Not A Hero, Downwell and Pac Man 256 highly enough.
Wouldn’t mind Dishonored 2, but in no rush. Resi VII is a given at some point, and Yakuza 0 will be an instant buy even if it were crap, just for the arcade games. Beyond that, I’m not too interested. Ooh, forgot about WipEout. That as well.
And Gravity Rush? Yuck. Despised the original so will be giving it a miss.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is coming to the US on both PS4 and Switch guys:

Of all the games I own on my PS4, my JP Puyo Puyo Tetris got me into some fistfights with my friends.
Edit: Pre-Orders available on Amazon.

I was surprised by the amount of AA titles that did come here (US). We even got Ikki, Mr. Goemon, and that odd game Booby Kids on Famicom is based on. So far we are only missing a Star Force, Terra Force, Wonder Boy, Haunted Castle, Atomic Robo-Kid, Darius, and Ark Area. Alpha Mission II just came out here. It looks like Darius is coming soon to the US store since the trophies are already translated.Marc wrote: The AA series in particular is a godsend for me. I found out that the US version of Renegade available on the JP PS Store is a bonus for purchasing two games out of Double Dragon, Double Dragon II, or that Sumo game. Too bad they didn't do that with the JP Kunio for the US store.

is exciting hour or the sumo game any good?

Me too! I'm not really pissed though, it looks like the english version will only have english voices and Puyo Puyo is supposed to sound like a crazy japanese arcade in the 90sBrianC wrote:Me too.Some-Mist wrote:lol oops

I'm glad the JP GBA version of Puyo Puyo Fever had English text, but no English voices. Re: The PS4 thread
The Nioh Last Chance Trial is out this weekend (only).
It's way less impressive than the beta. The stage is just very small and uninteresting, visually.
The beta had two very large stages, with a good amount of eye candy.
But I'd still recommend checking it out, if you still haven't tried it.

I didn't realise that the nioh guy is based on some white foreign guy who became a samurai. They should have definitely called it ninja gaijin.

Sega is porting Space Harrier and Outrun to the PS4
...Oh yeah, and I think the ports come with some kinda bonus Japanese crime drama beat-em-up.
No but seriously, I've been interested in trying out Yakuza for awhile, and this seemed like as good of a time as any so I preordered 0.

Rest assured had I had the opportunity I would have given it a deserved critique. I'm unsure how its repetitive, dull and tiring qualities were magically overlooked tbh.Marc wrote:I don't often have massive issues with the games press as a whole, but how this snuck through without at least one savaging is beyond me.Skykid wrote:Yeah, it was really average/boring.Marc wrote: And Gravity Rush? Re: The PS4 thread
PS4 Pro doesn't seem so hot right now, but once more games come out that take advantage of it, and more patches are released, that's going to change. Nier Automata seems like it's going to be a good example, going from 900p to 1080p with better effects.

Re: The PS4 thread
Gravity Rush 2 has a lot of the same problems that the first one had, but it's improved in many ways.
I just did mission 12, and I was genuinely having a blast.
The side missions....good lord....they range from "alright" to "what the hell were they thinking"? I mean, they're certainly tolerable, but "filler" is the PERFECT word for them. You can skip them. I keep fiddling with them every once in a while, just to see if they all suck.
You're usually just looking for someone. Then they tell you they don't have what you're looking for, and then you go and talk to someone else...this goes on for a while. It's bizarre.
I'm quite positive that some of the lower scores this game has gotten, are from people doing those side quests.
The story missions have some elements of this, but are MUCH better, overall. Even when one looks like it may go that route, it will end up having some battles and turn it all around.
My other big problem with the game, is the same problem I had with the first one. The cinemas are short, as are the little comic chats, but they are pervasive. The game just loves to interrupt you all the time. I knew this going in, so I just accepted it.
I don't know the reasoning to all the interruption. It's weird. If they had an actual normal language in it, perhaps they could have just done what Neir 2 does, and the talking going on in the background. But I think they really wanted to show those comic pieces. The writing is nice, and the art is good.
I know there are a lot of games that have these kinds of interruptions, but I never cared for it. And I don't really "get it", either.
Good game though!
So, what's this with RE7? I'm hearing this is actually good! Like, really good. I thought for sure this was going to be mediocre junk.
Anyone here played it?
I really don't like first person, but I just recently got done playing DOOM, so I think I could get past it.
And I can understand the reasoning for a horror title.

Re: The PS4 thread
I own Gravity Rush on Vita but have never played it because I never have the urge to play my Vita for some reason. I tried out the Gravity Rush 2 demo and really liked the movement/feel of the game but felt like the hour I spent just flying around was probably enough for me. The actual fighting/cutscenes/story seemed fairly uninteresting to me so I'm not sure the game could hold my interest for the full run time. I'm still curious, though. The main character is cute.
I loved the Resident Evil 7 demo, and I watched the first hour or so on Twitch and liked what I saw. I'm planning to start playing tonight after work, but will probably play on my PC rather than PS4.
I guess Ni-oh will be the next game I play on PS4. I did not enjoy the alpha, but I have heard they've made a lot of changes since then based on player feedback so I'm in...cautious anticipation.
Stoked for the new Dark Souls 3 DLC in March! Unlike many others, I absolutely loved Ashes of Ariandel. FROM has given me no reason to doubt.

I only played a bit of Gravity Rush (PS4 version), but I like it so far. I definitely agree that the combat is simplistic, though. I'll see how I like the rest of the game before getting the sequel.

RE7 is not for me, at all. I like my games to be more "gamey".
This is like an "experience". There is one part that had me rolling though. I will just say, when you get the car keys, get ready for some laughing.
Also, this game has a major potty mouth. You'd think these hicks from the Bible belt wouldn't be so foul mouthed.
