All that anonymous "slacker" funding was worth it because it brought the Starfish Made Of Darkness.

Definitely getting the Alisia and Taromaru vibes from those random dudebro portraits. More priorities: Clicking the 2000-ish design homepage takes you to the "About Anime Project" section, which is in line...

ABOUT ANIME PROJECT
ABOUT NEW FUNDING
ABOUT THE GAME
FOR BACKERS
ABOUT OFFICIAL FORUM

Basically, starting a random multimedia franchise to compete with Mega Man is the first priority, then getting new funding, then the game, then the backers, and finally the forum for feedback about the terrible state of priorities. "The general sale price at the time of launch hasn't been decided yet." Better to have the money buy more things that can be interpreted this or that way.

Couldn't they at least draw them in the art style of the game so it doesn't look so amateurish?

Who am I kidding. The whole project looks amateurish. At least there will be some cool music out of the deal.

Interesting how Mighty No. 9 still isn't out yet and a sequel to Azure Striker Gunvolt was already announced.

Azure Striker was massively disappointing though. Honestly, MN9 is looking a lot better in comparison, and some of the feedback I've heard from people who got hands on with it make it sound like it's actually coming along pretty nicely.

NTSC-J, Where did you get that screenshot from?
I want to see more.
Inafune said in the new year video that they're pretty much finished and will do porting & promoting with the rest of the time...

I wasn't disappointed with it, though I ended up enjoying it more when I tried for better times than when I tried to play it like a Megaman game.

The bland level designs, predictable boss fights, and way too gimmicky for its own good weapon system killed it for me. My expectations may have been too high, I was expecting Inti Creates to have taken everything they learned from the Mega Man Zero and Zx games to craft the ultimate X style action platformer, but IMO the end result is about on par with the weakest Zero game.

The game isn't meant to be a straight up action game. The weapon system is designed around attacking while constantly moving.

I'll chalk it up to personal taste. I thought Mega Man x2 was much better in terms of speed run focused level design, but again might just be personal taste with the mechanic and all. Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime anyway.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms..? That puts the dated feeling of the cutesy robot hero-centered platformer into perspective.

You know, I saw the Internet Aristocrat vid on her, but I don't really know the full deal.

Was she really that bad?

I know people were peeved at how they perceived she got the job, and her old Twitter posts or whatever...but did she do her job poorly?

She wasn't really bad. She made some statements and drew some fan art that was taken out of context, and people panicked and thought she was going to turn Beck into a girl (like Keiji or anybody else was really going to let character designs they had spent so much time and money on get changed because a community managery said something).

As for doing her job, she's a community manager. A forum admin/pr person, basically. Like anyone ever cared about community managers for their favorite games before.

Sounds like you weren't very involved in the forums for the first few months. There are basically 3 phases of her failure:

1. How she mishandled the initial public outcry of her lack of qualifications for the CM position.

Deleting damning tweets, then locking her twitter account, basically panic-mode coverup of who she was admittedly (not a megaman fan, got her job because of a close friend, blah blah blah)

2. How she mishandled moderation on the forums.

Ok, so let's try and just call the initial blowup water under the bridge and give her a chance. Utter failure. Zero, I'm talking Zero clue how to moderate a forum. Deleting posts she doesn't like, not even doing "MOD EDIT" and explaining why, banning people left and right. Utter chaos. Then after a couple months she admitted needing help and got some volunteer mods to help. These people were equally clueless, but at least they were actually megaman fans and not crazed faminazis (by the way, I am not anti-feminism, I am anti-crazy). It was to the point where people were reluctant to post any criticism (which she needed moon-loads of) for fear of being banned. She (possibly with help from the volunteer mods) came up with some forum rules (many laughably were to protect her from assault she'd so greatly brought on herself). That should help things right? Now when she finally started doing "MOD EDIT" stuff, half of the time the rule quoted didn't accurately apply and unless you happened to catch the post before it was edited, you just had to guess whether the mod edit was reasonable or not. It got so bad people were taking screenshots of what they actually posted so that if some asinine mod edit ensued, they could at least have some evidence to show what was actually said and how out of line the mod edit was.

3. Mixing personal views with CM role.

So, when the Gamer Gate stuff started blowing up, it became obvious there was a direct link between how people were treated on the forums based on their GG affiliation. Then she would take to her persona twitter account and vent all sorts of bile that was obviously linked to MN9 forum users and when called out be like "oh, I wasn't talking about that, teehee." Her latest stuff is straight retarded. Telling people who don't share her views to not buy the game. I'm dead serious.

I was was so disgusted in phase 2 that I bailed. Stopped going to the forums altogether. I'm still disgusted and when I finally get the huge Kickstarter package I pledged for, I don't even feel like opening it. It will probably just sit in my closet or end up on ebay. Seriously.

I never really heard any discussion of the forum or how it was run. The "controversy" that made its way to me was all about the whole female Beck thing and some statements she made. Mostly just flame wars about how she was going to ruin mega man and all that (which was pretty much out of the question with any reality check).

Shitty forum mod? Sounds like it from what you're saying, but that's not exactly ruining Mega Man. A well-deserved demotion is really the only thing to it.

I don't know what the circumstances were, but if the company running the backer forum can't police it then it's going to be a very nasty place indeed.
