Where Eagles Dare

Classic! That seamless combo of sweeping panorama and fiery action creates a near-tangible momentum; always makes me think of Tom DuBois' Konami boxarts, in particular Contra III, Castlevania IV, and Top Gun.

I like how the skulls are either unfathomably massive - what strange unearth of extinct godmen does PETER COTTONHELL roam? - or just regular skulls, making him a random rabies bunny - which is ofc also a troubling premise! Don't let him bite you while you whack him with a shovel! Long sleeves, thick gardening gloves!

Rad Boxart Bait N' Switch, proud tradition of the ol' VHS action/horror aisle. 3; I remember the RLM guys - ordinarily so on the ball! - marveling at DEATH SPA's blu-ray sleeve, all "Damn, that must've been commissioned, looks way too good" (image: gay dude getting he RIBZ TEAR AP4RT by the infamous DEATH FLY PRESS ), and me waving my arms and yelling at the computer in a cloud of Cheeto dust "NAWWW! NAWWW! GOD DAMMIT, THATS THE TRVE + HONEST VHS COVER FROM MUH CHILDHOOD MEMORY"

Damn it. I had this free VHS mail order catalogue, as a kid. Cheap newspaper quality. They gave 'em out at the rental place. Basically pay to import from the US - I got SFII Animated Movie (uncut with BAD WORDZ n' CHUN BOOBS), and was envy of whole street! Anyway, there was an ad for *ahem* "THE PINK PUSSY." Apparently it's a South American gay art house drama from the 60s. Poster is two buff latino dudes pounding like crazy. We used to think that image+title combo was the most ribcage-exploding hilarious thing imaginable, made photocopies of it and posted it up around our school. (rude kids 3;)

But all the posters I'm seeing are just generic porno. 3; I must resume the search, even knowing I am doomed!

This was also where I first saw ZOMBI II with its classic shot of a formidable Fulci rotter, and the immortal tagline "WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU!" Holy fuck, so rad

(I re-watched it recently and it's a pretty great movie, if you ask me.) The title means "between lips and rim of chalice". Story is XIX-th Century's Middle-European nobility romance (duelling, two-timing, nationalisms).
