Extends don't raise rank. I'm using wolfmame 106, I haven't experienced any freezing.

I 2nd that freezing notion. All I want to do is record a decent inp but it always freezes for me after I blow up the 1up carrier for some reason(shmupmame v2.2).

And I actually had no idea autofire did anything extra since the game already has it's own autofire going on, I figured no amount of mashing, inhumanly possible or not, would allow you to point blank things any faster. I'm gonna try it out tomorrow and see if anything happens cause I'd enjoy getting rid of a pesky boss part just that tad bit quicker...
It allows you to kill bosses much faster. I thought it would make the game alot easier at first. After playing for awhile I'm getting consistently higher average scores, but still failing to beat my best score.

I'm starting to get stuck in level 4 when these 4 or 5 ships come out that just throw a shitload of fast bullets at you.

must have died 100s of times at that stage 4 boss. any advice of where to place yourself when it gets close to the bottom screen? I can manage to take out the left arm with rockets after it has gotten off 2 shots but cant take out the right arm before its near the bottom and starts its psikyo patterns.

also, what does the P symbols stand for under the ship indicators? I also noticed that sometimes when I get hit I dont die, but the ship flickers and I get powered down. Whats going on?

P symbols is your current power level. The hit-powerdown thing is from the purple Powerup. It sets you to max power and gives you a 1 hit shield, losing the shield doesn't reduce your power in any way.

They're not your current power level, but powerup icons you have stored up. It takes 2 icons to move from power level 2 to 3, and 3 icons to move from power level 3 to 4. You can store up to 3 more once fully powered, and maybe those go to your next ship? I haven't explored that fully.

1. I guess it was just naturally picking up power ups before the boss then

From what sikraiken was telling us in shmups chat last night, about a quarter of that was from random extend items.

Let me repeat that: a quarter of his ALL score came from random items.

Can it be Monday yet so I never have to look at this game again?

Actually, 18%. 2 of those extends weren't random.

And you need to ALL this game anyway for that to have any impact.
