Akai Katana — AC, AC Limited & X360 (Cave, 2010/2011)
Re: Akai Katana — AC, AC Limited & X360 (Cave, 2010/2011)
Arcade mode (X360)
deexor - 391,721,500 - ALL - Type 3
Tiny improvement, but got to the 390s on the port too - after a sub-par stage 2, which I've been practicing a little.

Is there an easy way to keep the combo going at the transition to the stage 4 midboss?

Rank in Zetsu is really unforgiving. If you die or take a lot of laser damage before stage 5, you're going to lose 200+ million points due to the reduced bullet density, which is what happened to me here. I should be able to get 1.4-1.5 billion if I can no miss up to the twins.

Woah, you're about to trample the previous WR there. Do keep this up!

Rank is more of a bitch than I thought. In short, bombing or getting hit by a laser lowers rank immediately, so for best results you'll have to perfect your way to the stage 5 boss. Doing that while scoring well with Type C is really hard, so I still need to use a bomb or two (on the stage 4 boss).
On the bright side, it seems much easier to stay at max rank (or near it) on stage 6. I usually get hit by a laser, but I never notice any difference in the bullet density. I even died in the laser-turret section in this run, but I think I still got another 28-30 million points before the boss, which is what I normally get in training mode. /shrug

Excellent. How much further do you think you can push it?

I'd like to get 1.5 billion, but I'll need a near-perfect run for that since my best training mode scores only add up to 1.56. There isn't much room for error.
I'd also love to know where chrono is getting those extra 500 million points (even if it doesn't apply to Type C)...

Thanks, that's pretty helpful. He's 35, 45, and 55 million ahead of my best scores on stages 2, 3, and 4 respectively, and he's miles ahead on stages 5 and 6 (especially 5).
I've still got a lot to learn. I really should buy the DVD one of these days.

Zetsu/Climax
iconoclast - 1,502,864,120 - ALL - Type 3

Major mistakes in this run:
- Screwed up the stage 3 mid-boss
- Bombed the second form of the stage 4 boss
- Screwed up the final pattern of the stage 4 boss
- Screwed up about thirty percent of stage 5
- And I really screwed up on the final boss. I couldn't decide what to do against him in order to get as many points as possible (ie. suicide or not), so it was sloppy and bad.
Thankfully, I got 449m out of stage 6, which is one of my best scores yet. I got lucky on the boss too, since they opened up with the two highest scoring patterns. That bit of randomness isn't so bad in arcade mode due to the 256 hit cap, but in Zetsu it can cost you 10 million or so.
Anyway, this run was decent, but I'd really like to have that one really clean run where pretty much everything goes according to plan.

I'm not fully satisfied with this run, since I still made several mistakes here and there, but it's starting to approach "good enough" territory. At least I'm #1 on the leaderboards now.

Re: Akai Katana — AC, AC Limited & X360 (Cave, 2010/2011)
Amazing. The leaderboards look surprisingly barren though, only five billion+ scores... Are there basically all the same players in the top-5 for each respective ship?

Re: Akai Katana — AC, AC Limited & X360 (Cave, 2010/2011)
I'm the only one that has a top 5 score with every character, but a few other guys are in the top 10 with more than one ship. But yeah, Zetsu is probably the least played mode on the disc. I guess most of the arcade experts didn't spend a lot of time on it. I think it's great, though (and not necessarily superior to the original, but a good alternate version - like a Black Label).
At any rate, I uploaded my latest Zetsu run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcSE8mc1trE
I'm uploading my 424m arcade run as well, but that won't be up for another 10-12 hours since my connection sucks: http://youtu.be/rVYVP_oxtUc

Hey Iconoclast, belated congrats on topping the leaderboards!! Major achievement for a western player.
Incidentally, just to give folks an idea about the NESiCA version, top scores are currently around 3.5 billion and top 20 is about 1 billion plus which means that there have been system-level tweaks that are getting them that high. Not sure what quite yet but if I figure it out I'll let you know.

first ALL of the game, been playing this a bit every weekend for a couple weeks. Scoring was bad overall, especially on st5 and 6, just one of the few runs where I dont get dumb deaths. Going to improve on this definitely, and this game has way too few submissions here (11 for arcade mode? o_o)
Very glad I bought this, was thinking it might be worth getting because of iconoclast and deexors activity etc. One of my favorite cave shmups already.
