Gameplay starts about 1:00. Yeah, wasn't expecting the "G" to play anything like it did in GDarius.

God, it looks even more amazing in direct-feed capture. Where's my HD console port? ;_;

More info on the "G" now:

http://darius.jp/dbac/game/play_operation.html#ex_p2

No capture balls - craft has up to two support units based on burst gauge level
Formation of support craft an be altered by tapping burst button (as seen in vid)
Easy peasy alpha beams work exactly as they do in GDarius, just blast into enemies beam, no need for precise timing or positioning
Counter beam increases in magnitude based on duration of enemies beam
support craft can be shot down if they take too much damage

For anyone out in the global sticks who won't ever have the pleasure of the AC cab, I can't recommend the PSP version highly enough. Tons of content and barrels of fun, it's a different experience to the arcade ver (in that both are very much optimised for their respective hardware), but a great game with the same fundamental Burst Cannon experimentation and sexy audio. Buy it.

+1

The game is just filthy awesome. My PSP will stop working before I master the game, and I play it 12 times a week average! When is it going to bore me? I just don't know.

Utterly insane that Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins never got a full console release. Would be absolutely perfect for PSN/XBLA.

Agreed, and it would also be a great opportunity to release the Kai revision outside Japan, which fixes most balance issues and dumps the tacked-on metrovania elements in favor of being a legitimate arcade platformer again. Unfortunately, it came out before the digital distribution ball really got rolling on consoles, and I think it sold quite poorly outside Japan.

Haven't played the arcade version, but I think PSP Darius Burst is strictly average, and seriously lacking in content by Darius standards (I tire of fighting the exact same sequence of bosses every time before the final one). It was outsourced to Pyramid, the DBZ Budokai developers, and it certainly shows. The Burst mechanic isn't utilized very well either, since you basically have to save it up through an entire stage for the boss. Still, I'm happy they were able to make a new Darius at all.

This isnt true at all, unless youre blindly firing it at nothing. -And then theres Burst mode.

Yes, Burst mode is much better--a shame that it's a pain to unlock.

I guess you can Burst occasionally in stages, but you need to use it too sparingly to have enough meter for a beam duel.

Wrong again. You can burst all the time in stages - and you'll need to for scoring. -And all the bosses throw enough shit at you to charge your meter in time for the beam duel.

came across Darius Burst Another Chronicle at Timezone in Surfers Paradise for any Aussies in the vicinity. Put about $20 into it, playing 1,2 and 3 players and it was awesome. Hope to get to play it again someday... back to the psp version for the time being i suppose...

Heh tell me about it, there was a time about 6 years ago when there was a Dragon Blaze AND a Strikers 2 cab at a cinema that i used to visit at least weekly. They were replaced by skilltesters, and now block stackers :'(. Whenever i see an arcade I always drag the wife and son into on the faint hope that there will be a shooter in there, definitely payed off this time :D

Sorry for bumping this thread, but does anyone here know where the Gaiden and 2nd Silverhawks are in Chronicle mode?

We just got a DBAC cab here in the Philippines a few weeks ago, and it doesn't have any updates yet. Which is why I'm asking this question, because some of us here are kinda curious about how those ships play.

Also, this is my first comment here so, nice to meet you all.

Damn, I wish this game wasn't ~$70 on the PSP.

On the plus side though, you guys did alert me to Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins. Didn't have a PSP when it came out, so I guess I've got a lot of goodies to catch up on. Ordered Gradius Collection as well.

You're lucky to have a cabinet. I have no idea where one of these is...if there's even one in the Midwest. Enjoy! Oh, and welcome!

Just checked Play-Asia...price was $152.90 for Darius Burst, but at least it ships for free! When I bought it for $65, if felt expensive *then*. Wow...just, wow.

Enjoying UG&G are you? I was pleased with it. Pleased enough to buy the soundtrack and the Goku Makaimura Kai version that Capcom released. Got both of those on sale from P/A when they were offering them, though.

Edited to change the price from $152.50 to $152.90. I hate sloppiness.

I actually haven't ordered it yet, but it's on my list. Still playing through SMT Nocturne, and I ordered Gradius Collection and Gradius V, and just tonight Devil Summoner 2 reprint. Too much to play, but I'm definitely gonna pick it up after those, especially since PSP games (that aren't called Darius Burst) are dirt cheap.

I typically don't order heaps and heaps of games. These things just... all happened at once somehow.

Nice to meet you! In chronicle mode, look for system MITONA / TAMI for your Silverhawk! ;)

What ended up happening is Taito gave Adam (the arcade op) a special fixed deal on buying the location test cab. He agreed and fully purchased the game (via the donations + a loan from the bank). I was one of his big supporters on this and did whatever I could to help him out.

Adam and I are pretty much the only ones around here that can actually PLAY the game. The general public that comes in are just totally stupid to this genre of arcade game. It's pretty sad, I've seen many Silverhawks destroyed in mere seconds by the hands of an inexperienced pilot. :P

It's here to stay BABY!!
Come to Utah. :D
