I've been accused of this myself. I don't think it's true, but I didn't really have a comeback. Saying "no, I just like it" isn't really a convincing argument; it just sounds like admitting defeat.

Isn't that a joke? Mixing up narrative-driven games with non-casual kind of lies about the amount of skill involved to play, right?

Too many gamers nowadays couldnt give a shit about gameplay and just the story and immersive expierance of the game all they require is some extra busy work to keep their mind active. Pefrably activaties that are extramly repettative once the player has learnt how a perticular game mechanic works (thats why many games dont give all the skills, powers and other game mechaincs from the start of the game and instead trickle feed the player bits at a time to keep the player engaged) Just look at mmorpgs like the hugely popular WOW and all the ratting and grinding thats part of the game.

Personally, I'd have been more interested to know why my own friend held me in such low esteem and had become such a presumptuous, arrogant, GCSE psychologist berk, all of a sudden.

Oh aye, my friends take the piss out of my hobbies all the time, but any suggestion that I play shoot-yer-mums "just to be different" would be excusable only with much pint-buying on their behalf. :P

Friend of mine wanted to see the overpriced game I imported.

1st reaction, seeing the menu: "Wtf, japanese?!"
2nd reaction, seeing stage 3: "You're a goddamned freak!" (which I am absolutely not yet)
3rd reacction, seeing the backgroundart at the scorescreen after the last stage: Why is there a naked girl lying on an underaged boy?! (combined with a look that shouts "sicko")

Wait, wait wait, They thought you were a freak over stage 3 in Novice Mode? Should have showed them Ver 1.5 Ultra. Going to invite them back once Deathsmiles is over here?

Maybe you should ask him why he's paying attention to the images on the scorescreen moreso than the actual game

I like to think of casual games as those which don't require a large time investment before they can be enjoyed. You can pick up a 2D shooter and play it for 30 minutes, and 9 times out of 10 you have fun the entire time, even when the game is completely new to you. Almost no initial time must be put in to learn the game mechanics or watch a cutscene. In this way 2D shooters are some of the most casual fun around. "Hardcore" is very ambiguous though, and for some that tends to correlate with difficulty.
Of course, that's just an opinion.
Always seeking netplay fans to play emulated arcade games with.

Thats one (of many reasons) why I love shmups so much these days. If I am tired and want a quick game of something before going to bed, I can play a couple of credits of Dodonpachi and be satisfied. Or I can go to a 2-hour marathon of Espgaluda II trying to 1cc/improve my score and have a blast too.

Nah, they're already thinking that I'm having some kind of strange hentai-fetish. Showing them DS, would be like confirming this. Although I really would like to see their disturbed looks :D

Reminds me of a conversation with a friend of mine when I first showed him Mushi Futari.

Jack: I'd totally do the chick on the right
Me: That's a 9 year old boy
Jack: Meh, whatever

*Akward silence*

Hahaha
I feel quite relieved now because I only play Mushi Futari with Reco. I love her indeed.

One of my friends came over during the weekend and saw my Reco figurine from the Mushihimesama OST on the top of my shelf. One of the first things he noticed is that she doesn't wear any panties. Fortunately he's into gaming, comics and stuff, or else he would be calling me a pervert, as some other people already have.

If it's androgynous and it's attractive, I stop caring about its gender. ;)
