I like the sound of this.EOJ wrote:In regard to leeching skulls off enemies with your shot, some characters can do this more effectively than others. Lei is the best at this, and he plays much differently from the other characters due to this. You can go through some stages with Lei just doing this and score well.

Hey, the game has it's own pedo-bear, so why not a horse?

Good thing that these games aren't marketed for westerners, then.emphatic wrote:Someone should make a nice slip cover for DS2X, or just the front part, so you can slip it into the regular case on top of the actual box art. I think that Art Covers most of the time are useless since the box is going to be in our shelves collecting dust.
As for the game itself I have just watched the videos that EOJ posted and the gameplay looks fun, and that's the most important think even If I don't like the art direction of the game.

Well then it's no wonder so many people want J-360's! The original looks incredible, like a side scrolling Espgaluda in the way it plays. Let's hope this new entry is as good!Cuilan wrote:Yes and no.dave4shmups wrote:Did the original Deathsmiles come out on the 360, and wil Deathsmiles II X be region free??

I don't really care about the actual content of the pictures, but I don't really like whole art direction this game...it just seems to...bubbly. The original had a very distinct gothic look, very subdued colors and "sharp" characters. The new ones look too dolled up and "round", like you'd see in some moe-anime. They seem less detailed too.

Agree / although I think bubbly is being too generous - the 3d work in this game is pretty much god awful; I hope this simply amounts to growing pains rather than something they're happy with.originalz wrote:I don't really care about the actual content of the pictures, but I don't really like whole art direction this game...it just seems to...bubbly. I used to be quite interested in how cave used 3d tech to help produce and organise their games; to me it always appeared that past efforts certainly always achieved something in terms of a look and feel... I'm not seeing the achievement here, I feel we're almost losing some of the feel of the game...

I'm really surprised you just heard of this. Anyway, the original DS is coming stateside this summer. It's awesome.

I kind of agree with you. I do prefer the art style of the first game. But I kinda like the art in the sequel though. I think the new art style fits the theme of the sequel a bit better than the old style would.originalz wrote:I don't really care about the actual content of the pictures, but I don't really like whole art direction this game...it just seems to...bubbly. While the art style does look a little "flash"-ish, the game itself looks like loads of fun. can't wait to play!

That's pretty nice, but white would make much more sense than black for the color of the plastic and buttons/joystick.
Re: [JP 360] Deathsmiles II X coming on May 27, Preorders open!
it's a shame that hori has chosen the old HRAP design for their 3rd stick. With the RAP V design available from Hori it would have been nice to see them release a stick based on the new design instead on the old one.

Yeah, I'm not really feeling this stick. I was sorely tempted to buy the last two cave sticks, but this one doesn't enthrall me. The art's slightly inferior, I'm annoyed Hori is still using an ugly multi-colored button setup, and it would be pretty sweet to see a stick with the new design. Old HRAP design is godlike, but I want something a little different now, especially with Madcatz's sticks and the new HRAP.Fudoh wrote:it's a shame that hori has chosen the old HRAP design for their 3rd stick. Re: [JP 360] Deathsmiles II X coming on May 27, Preorders open!
^Agreed. The Futari one was the most interesting out of the three because it had that odd teal color, but the colored buttons clash so badly with any of the game art. I don't mind the colored buttons on the EX-SE, though I still wish they made it with a black body.
What really pisses me off is that these shmup sticks aren't stocked with seimitsu parts, it's just pathetic.

about the colored buttons: microsoft requires it, or they won't let them make the stick compatible with the 360.

Unless they follow different rules in Japan, the story I heard was the peripheral can follow whatever color and button scheme it wants if it's branded for a particular game. The button colors and placements are dictated if it's a generic controller.Exarion wrote:about the colored buttons: microsoft requires it, or they won't let them make the stick compatible with the 360.

I think that's changed, especially if you look at the difference between the new PS3 and 360 Madcatz Super Street Fighter IV sticks.StarCreator wrote:Unless they follow different rules in Japan, the story I heard was the peripheral can follow whatever color and button scheme it wants if it's branded for a particular game. Re: [JP 360] Deathsmiles II X coming on May 27, Preorders open!
I swear, half the reason I order from them is for the quality of their writing.NCS wrote:In the original DeathSmiles, the heroines Windia, Caspar, Rosa, and Follet were teenagers who were accompanied by invincible familiars. In the sequel, the girls have devolved and they're no longer teens. They're now "tweens" which accentuates the lolita-gothic theme of the game with a younger cast of immaculately garbed and coiffed junior maidens.
In the coin-op version, DeathSmiles II featured a cast of four characters with Windia and Caspar returning to reprise their roles. They're joined by a lad named Lei with an identity crisis. Although Lei's a male, he nevertheless dresses up like a maid and appears to be wearing eyeliner. The fourth character is a youngling named Supe (Soupy) who looks like a baby munchkin just emerging from her swaddling clothes.
... huh? They actually have a DS2 PCB?NCS wrote:DeathSmiles 2 is designed with 3D in mind so the stages, enemies, and bosses are rendered 3D models which may be off-putting to some 2D shmup purists. We like the game just fine however - picked up a used kit for about US$1500.

They tend to pick up quite a few shmup PCBs/kits for themselves.StarCreator wrote:... huh? Re: [JP 360] Deathsmiles II X coming on May 27, Preorders open!
I thought we all decided to boycott the game so Cave never makes a 3D game again....
