Haha, no kidding. I think the idea was:

-Get Type Z in Simple Mode, and perhaps beat Simple too.
-Work up getting those stars in Original.
-Use Type Z in Unlimited and watch the ztars fly.

Type Z gets boring real fast though since it's not balanced ship to play with at all. Your break meter fills up so fast you practically don't have to dodge anything if you choose to spam bombs and level 1 break.

I started playing unlimited with playing Type Z but it got boring real fast since using it feels almost like cheating.

Anyway here's my best attempt with Type I so far, would've propably made it to stage 5 if I didn't die 4 times during the midboss.

I've already had 2 mostly 'perfect' runs totally ruined by a bug that makes input for pressing downwards stuck and only way to fix it has been restarting the game so far. Has that happaned to anyone else here?

Well my run was still full of mistakes. Counterstop, 1兆 or A000億 would require near ideal stages (no-miss, no-bomb), specially stage 5. The part where the spider(s) approach from behind is toughest since I don't know if I should wait out until it's safe to kill the first one or kill two of them and no matter what I try I always end up messing up there.

Well, this was only my second Simple run, so the score is awful, but since I got the clear I figured I'd post it:

It was a pretty intense EX Boss 1 and EX Boss 2 fight though, since I was on my last life for both of them and had never faced either before (or seen a video for Simple mode). Type Z is now available but I need some more stars.

What else can you do to control rank besides bombing and not getting stars, both of which reduce your score? Or do you mean to find particular spots where you need the rank reduced temporarily to not get killed?

Strategic bombing is all. I decided to shoulder through without bombing at all since it was my first play, but now I see that you really can't avoid bombing in certain places.

1-1.5 oku is not very difficult, you just have to grab the star item after every boss and abuse Type II's freeze options to point-blank a lot (if you have them stretched as far in front of you as possible you can "point blank" from the bottom of the screen.) The fast bullets look scary but you can dodge the bulk of them by just sweeping back and forth like you were playing Raiden or an old Toaplan game. If you can tough it out and resist the urge to bomb you'll reach 1 oku shortly into level 5, or possibly even after the level clear bonus of level 4.
