In general, neither am I, but you don't have to look very hard in this case. If you feel "it's so unfair I'm punished for superiority" that ought to apply to all contexts. Though it would be odd if you felt that way about games but not real life, since real life is more important and all.

But back to just gaming for a sec then. You think it's good game design that when someone uses skill or knowledge that not everyone has, they are rewarded with a powerup or extend that furthers their advantage and makes it even easier? And someone who is already worse at a game because they are new has the additional challenge of having to go through the game without any of these powerups? This thinking is pervasive and engrained throughout most games, e.g. anything as simple as a hard-to-reach 1up in Mario.

If you want to respond, maybe a PM would be best, although personally I don't have much more to say anyway.

Ditto, though you can always try and play with the other planes as a personal challenge. I wonder if the ROM could be modified to change the bullet color or something... (pink, anyone? :P )

Hmm.. point taken. Sim30 does have some background blending, though if you're aggressive enough and have the right Slave formation, you can actually stop all the enemies from firing. The benefit being that you can hold a 9x chain all the way through the stage for an extra 15mil+.

I actually found Phase 1 to be a lot of fun as far as I got, crazy fast rhythm section + bomb timing. I think I almost got to the boss. I had a huge bomb stock on level 20 & 40 & PH1 because of the two sets of big bomb planes, twas nice.

Route: Sim1-Sim5-Sim15-Sim20-Sim40-PH1

I need to learn how to score & not die on level 30 next, I suck at scoring there... I do much better on level 20.
