He's not in the credits in Ibara either, but that game was also made by Cave, in case you didn't know.
On top of this, it wasn't a bad game by any means :
It still looks like ass, just like DS2 looks like ass. Cave obviously doesn't have good 3D skills. They didn't have good 3D skills in 1996, and they don't have them in 2009.
I disagree! They have some skillz (at least when it comes to making models of tanks and helicopters and tanks). It's just that it's going to be at least 15 more years until cheap hardware is available to render their art in realtime for dozens of objects on the screen.
Look at Diablo 3: the geometry is only about twice the triangle count used for Warcraft III, and the game would, as far as detail goes, look far better if they used prerendered art again. For the trade off of less animation flexibility, fudged shadows, and storage space.
The background stuff in DS2 looks like ass though for sure. Fucking cereal box buildings! It's like it's the 90's all over again. "You're zooming past a series of cubes, is this awesome y/n?"

Yes, you are right. I was referring solely to "realtime 3D" when I was talking about their "3D skills".
except for SF having absolutely superior animation and details compared to any other 2d-gameplay game out there currently.
What Cave is doing (from what I've seen so far) with 3D is what I would have expected 7 years ago... I would be more impressed if they were doing smart tricks with the visuals, or giving it more of a distinct style.

agreed. I hope the days of crazy 2D bullet hell games aren't over.

KOF XII is how i imagined an SF4 to be

i thought we were talking about something important here
sure it looks worse than their prerendered crap, but they'd have to fuck up pretty hard to screw over the playing part

They were not okay with filming, so I was standing at the booth on the opposite side filming (the Mahjong Fight Club 7.77 booth). That's why it's not so close to the screen. At least I used maximum zoom in all the time unlike the first video we saw from the business days
Hah, if you work in Akihabara I can tell you're sick of it, seeing it every day. But at least you're close to some good stores and game centers.

good riddance
zap: thanks, but you might want to put those up on file sharing servers in case flickr gets pressured by cave to take them down

the first thing i thought when i saw the explosions was "they look like thunderforce V explosions".

isnt that far away from how the game looks like.
i really hope cave catches up on the missing eight years of hardware differences fast, because with DS2 it looks like they are starting over, just this time its gonna be harder because oldschool 3d looks still worse than oldschool 2d.
I don't think the game looks that bad. In fact, it looks somewhat like a Shikigami No Shiro game from these videos, and SnS has always looked good enough for me. I don't care about the technical side of the graphics, only about the art style, so maybe that's why. If it makes me feel good while I'm playing, I'm more than satisfied.
The real problem I see in these videos is... where the fuck are all the bullets, the hordes of enemies, the ACTION? All I see are a few enemies popping out occasionally and shooting two or three bullets before they're killed. Even Original Mode Mushi had more bullets than that. Hell, that stage 2 video seems like something I would expect from R-Type. What the swimming fuck.
Then again... I won't go as far as saying the game IS shitty like some people already did. Bashing a game for anything other than graphics and music before you actually get to play it is oh so stupid.

How does DS1 at level 1 compare with this in terms of density? They're trying to make it more accessible for unskilled players, but I doubt that they will abandon the hardcore, and selectable difficulty levels is a great way to cover both types.
Having some sort of lv999 mode available in this demo would have been reassuring, though.
