Well, worldwide, the 360 is outselling the PS3. Even if that just means that most sales are in the US, then it would make sense to release your game in the country where most of your sales would be. That was my point. I mean, seriously, the 360 is a total sales failure in Japan isn't it? I think the GameBoy Advance outsells it every month. That said, although 360 sales might be slowing in Europe, there is now a large installed user-base there, especially in the UK. You only have to look at the Matchmaking screens in Halo 3 when signed-in to XBox Live to see visible evidence of that.

Well, consider that there's probably a decent number of PS3s that are being bought as Blu-Ray players only.

I mean, that's why I bought mine and I'm a hardcore gamer.

Ketsui is finally being ported, that's great news. If more ports make their way to the 360 then I'll seriously consider buying one.

But, is the 360 still that prone to failures?

I don't think so, if you buy one new now, the heatsinks which caused the big problem have been fixed and they've got cooler CPUs (or GPUs, don't remember which one). But, even if there were you're covered for three years (and probably for the life of the system considering the notoriety of the issue).

LOL @ people thinking this will put a dent in the PCB prices! (Sad as that sounds)

My 2 cents on the graphical aspects of an HD port:

Upscaled with fake scanlines will look fine even in yoko as long as its in a progressive resolution (something ending in a p). Filtering will only come into play if they plan to support interlaced resolutions (something ending in an i). I'd be more concerned about them actually adding scanlines than supporting tate.

All that really matters to me are practice modes and extras.

you DO realise the fake scanlines need to be VERTICAL for games that were originally tate, right?

However that effect just isn't as convincing as the horizontal scanline effect, imho.

I said it before, but people should check out the demos of Castlevania: SotN and TMNT Arcade on Xbox Live Arcade with the filter turned off. They look extremely sharp. I'm sure somebody will find something minute about it to bitch about them still (especially on this forum) but I'm quite the pixel lover and I think they look fantastic. I will agree that simulated scanlines would probably make them look even better, that's actually exactly how I have my MAME setup to display on my rotatable 1600x1200 LCD.

Also, if you see the screen shots in the magazine scan, they show borders on all sides which means they could be doing a direct 2x or 3x resize. They could do a 2x resize in 720p mode (640 pixel height, leaving a 40 pixel border for the top and bottom) and a 3x resize in 1080p mode (960 pixel height, leaving a 60 pixel border for the top and bottom).

 Very good point! That would seriously suck if they added horizontal scanlines to a vertical game.

Seriously though, the chances of this developer even having a clue about preserving the original sprites and look from the arcade is beyond reality. Unless Cave helping them with the sprites means they are adding the proper scanlines directly into the background imagess and sprites.

Not a problem if you have a decent sized screen (besides, I recon that screenshot is from the 'original' graphics mode). Personally, I think sprite-based games at this resolution look rubbish on anything larger than a 32" CRT.

Because Cave did such a fantastic graphical job with the Mushi and Ibara PS2 ports, right?

yeah it already lost 9K JPY
http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w20217582

you still don't get it?! Again...A lot of people buy cave pcb's at the release for 2200$ and they know for sure it will cost 1000$ less in a year..... so a lot of people will give a shit if this PCB drops 3 or 400$....
if you have a problem with this change the hobby

Oh yes I saw, and you call that a dent? LOL Not that I even care the least about Ketsui PCB prices...I bought mine so long ago they would have to come out with a pcb reprint for it to approach those prices again.

Then why did you mention it LOL?

Anyway LOL the port isn't even out LOL, and yet the first PCB sold since the annoucement has sold for less than what PCBs with artwork used to go for before.

After hearing so much about Ketsui I'm happy it might now even become a possibility that I could play it :)

And Ceph how are PCB prices relevant to you unless you are planning to buy and/or sell a PCB in the future?

Or you amuse yourself nyah-nyah-ing at the evil PCB collector empire?

For the record I don't care either. I'm happy with what I paid and I played it plenty these last few years. Yeah I know you're just jealous ;)

All I did was reply to Dave_K's LOL post, who also doesn't care. Just consider me an outside observer who doesn't care either. Intriguing how we all don't care and yet continue to talk about it.

I'm a big PCB fan, but the reason I sold my Ketsui Kit was because I just couldn't justify having that much $ wrapped up in one game. The kit I sold would go for about $2000 now, as it had every little tidbit of factory schwag, but even the $1200 I got for it, back then, was too much $.

I'm well pleased to hear of a port. I bought a PS2 for Cave games. Now I will buy a 360 for Cave games :D

GaijinPunch wrote:31khz anything (yoko or tate) = upscaled/line-doubled whatever. If you're playing it in TATE it will look like shit, but you're still using more of the screen. The ratio is the same regardless, but it's bigger.
So it all comes down to bigger = better. I don't buy that.

My TV is 32", so that would be comparable to playing Ketsui on a tated 17" screen.

I don't see the problem.

Ceph you parsed my response incorrectly, as the LOL was to the "dent" in price. But whatever, troll on my friend.
