One would think that a year is enough time for those crazy japanese players but it seems it's not enough. Have someone 1cc'd her in all this time?

That TTLB is intentionally overtuned to be close to impossible .. I remember one of the devs mentioned he hopes it takes another 7 years before someone manages to clear it.

The rationale behind this is that's how long it took someone to clear DOJ Death Label .. but I still think it's a dumb idea, mainly because the entirety of DOJ Death Label was batshit crazy, while the TTLB in SDOJ is just one boss that feels like it came out of a completely different game.

And the idea a game should take 7 years before someone manages to clear it is kind of wacky in the first place. Especially when it's such an obvious barrier of a boss. Maybe the port coming out will hasten things, if you can practice that part of it.

Here is some inside information from Lee @ VideoGameImports.com:

Bad news I'm afraid: as feared, the cuts have been terrible for the Super Limited Edition. We're hardly getting any! We've been offered literally a handful more (nowhere near enough to fulfil even half of our orders) at a massively increased price. The price would mean we'd normally be selling them for £179.99 but we're happy to take a profit cut for people who already made a preorder and drop the price down to £159.99.

If you don't want a Super Limited Edition at this price, we can offer you a Limited Edition instead at £84.99 (current website price = £94.99). Alternatively, we can offer you a regular version at a discounted price of £54.99. We can then mark you down as interested in a future batch of the Super Limited Edition and if/when we get more stocks, we'll le tyou know. It's possible that in the future, some will turn up at less than £159.99. But it's also possible that they'll just disappear and almost never show up again, a bit like what's happened with the Cave Shooting Collection box set and what I also think may happen to the Limited Edition of Dodonpachi Saidaioujou!

I need a reply back from you within 24 hours. If I don't hear back from you, I'll have to offer the Super Limited Edition to somebody else down the preorder line and you'll miss out. Additionally, we may not be able to offer the Limited Edition at the £84.99 price point because they're costing us a lot more to get extra stock too, it's just that the cuts aren't as bad for that.

Original pre-order price was £118.99 at VGI.

Looks pretty bleak for all, I was going to buy through Lee as he is an absolutely sound guy, shame that Cave have screwed this up.

Now I am going to have to use my contacts in Japan which is much more hassle and will mean I will end up owing out a favour.

Anyone fucks with my preorder and there will be hell to pay. £179.99 smells like bullshit to me. Obviously a small time reseller and not a wholesaler who got their own orders bumped up in price due to scarcity. Looking to make £10 profit on each one sold. Bound to be supply issues when you go that route as they're using the same methods as the rest of us.

While I would agree youtube needs to upgrade to 60fps, I'd take the (much) higher bitrates of HD on youtube any day of the week over that overly blocky compressed bullshit. It might be smooth but it looks like utter ass. If you actually do your recording at youtube's 30fps instead of having them chop up a 60fps video it looks fine.

The SDOJ video you posted was so blocky that most of the time you couldn't even make out the counter and every Cave board video I've ever seen on Nico is piss poor to mediocre quality. Maybe it's a problem on the player ends.

Did yours say something like "playing in economy mode due to high traffic"? It makes everything looks like shit.

Nope. This is what it looks like:

Not trying to stick up for youtube's issues but this is bad, and it's not nearly the worst I've seen of them.

Oh, then it's just a problem on the uploader's end. See the im@s clip.
Anyway, my beef with Youtube is that you can only choose between fps or image quality, while over here you can have a bit of both.

I haven't seen fps on youtube, maybe that is regional or something. The thing about youtube is the actual resolution on 720 and 1080 doesn't always make the big difference, it's that when you get into them, that's the only time they give out a decent bitrate. But problems from a user end can't be helped much.

Just picked up this on Gaf and have not seen it here or unless I missed it .
While we are waiting for SDOJ we might as well have another " CAVE is doomed " news item to lighten up the discussion .

There's a new blog post by Cave's producer, Makoto Asada:

http://cave-game.cocolog-nifty.com/blog ... -4fa5.html

He says "At present, I think Saidaioujou will be our last release on home consoles." So it doesn't look like they're going to develop stuff on next gen systems. To further punctuate this point, he is shutting down his blog at the end of June (it's been active since late 2008, opened during Deathsmiles' port development). There will be a few more blog posts before he shuts it down.

The end is here. :(

If it means they are trimming down the company to just arcade shooters then good, unless they are sticking with Nesica. If they stick with Nesica then they are plain racist. Nesica is the most racist piece of arcade hardware ever built.

This

Fire Asada, downsize the company so it's cheap enough to run without having to make games that "appeal to a wider audience". Stick to what you know, balls hard shooters that scare 99% of gamers (!)

This isn't in conflict with making ports of their games. Why should they stop making then?

How is Nesica racist? It is at worst isolationist, which is nothing new when it comes to Japan. And it's not like there are a lot of other services around the world which are limited to certain countries. If they think it is not profitable to export the Nesica and build the network to support places outside Japan, that's fair enough. Welcome to the free market. Sucks, but it's not racist.

Japan isn't exactly a melting pot and Nesica is designed for games to live and die within Japan only. You can put a less derogatory word on that if you want. Having a history of being anti world trade doesn't mean it's cool to keep trying it. It should be their national embarrassment.

Yeah, I am not saying it is cool or anything. It is pretty shitty. But seeing how little arcade love there is going on outside of Japan it might be the safe thing to do.

I guess Nesica might make sense if a company couldn't afford to make pcbs, but that is not the case here.

It makes sense if a company wants absolute control over the market.

Guess what they want?

Shared profits with Taito and a gamecenter is total control or are you saying selling pcbs are?

Nesica is cheaper for the arcade operators as well as the arcade game developers. The fact that collectors get fucked over by this is a secondary issue. The arcade market is shrinking, and not having to produce PCBs which then have to be bought by arcade ops is a logical step to keep it alive. It's really very simple.

The only thing you could fault Taito for is being too Japan centered, but then the question is, how many arcades outside Japan would buy Nesica cabs to warrant extending their service, which would need more servers, localisation, etc. I reckon that the profit margin would not be high enough to make it worth it, so they don't.

All we can do now is wait and see where the arcade market goes, and if there will be ports or not.

Sadly. Making an actual product is cool. "Dataware" takes away all the magic. I hate Nesica. I'd destroy all the machines if I could. Pile em up ship em out and sink em.

Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:Shared profits with Taito and a gamecenter is total control or are you saying selling pcbs are?
The shared profits with Taito are likely to be less than the PCB manufacturing costs, and costs of developing devkits to work with the new hardware.

In exchange they get absolute control over where their games are used, and full player profile information, and the ability to update all copies of their game everywhere to the latest versions should a critical bug be found without having to recall PCBs and upgrade them.

By effectively killing the second hand market (or at least basically charging exactly the same to active a new license) they also expect more sales of new software, because they're not having to compete with their older software on the platform. It's the exact same model and reasoning Microsoft is using for the XB one.

Neither Cave nor Taito could give a damn about the collectors when it comes to the PCBs, they sell them for commercial use, the only exception was that special version of AK.

That's the future for everything, and even with the new generation of home systems the discs you buy are likely to start containing only the main game data, with the actual executables etc. being downloaded with a one-time license from the servers making a mere copy of the discs useless, and simply existing to save bandwidth. Again there is no consideration for collectors in this model.

That might be one of the reasons Cave has said there won't be any more home ports, because they've seen that they won't be able to do special editions like this, because people will quickly see that they have zero resale value, and will cease to work / be installable once the current generation of systems passes. People have been buying into this type of model for a while....

They had DFK Black Label kits for sale on their site for at least a year and prior to that used to sell new kits directly to people outside of Japan for years. Forum members here have bought straight from them before. I don't think they minded collecting a couple of grand each time.

Still, moneywise this is probably way more secure for Cave. All digital distro only deals are more secure because you do not have to invest as much as a developer. Like for example the Shantae on DSi would not have happened without it being download only.

And yeah, of course Cave has nothing against people buying up their stock of PCBs they invested money in.

Either that or he really doesn't understand the system. You simply take the actual international shipping fee and add 10% and you're done... But we are now off topic. I'll bring us back by saying I've had the game for a year and don't own a 360 and literally one of the things I'm looking most forward to with the release is the Dr. Trouserplank review.
