Is it just me or the attacks of the stage 6 boss and last boss in Akai Katana Shin are retardedly hard?

They are tricky,it does take some practise to get through it,its the hardest boss in the game.

Those days when you can't play well at all, and feel terrible about it.

Everything Compile. Super Aleste in particular now. That hell of a stage 1 is damn long and boring, mostly a breeze with the OP laser, but then comes that tricky boss playing mind games and spewing bullets, I go boom and then it's another half an hour until getting another shot at the boss fight.
From stage 4 on it's just hell. Die once and recovery is nearly impossible, die at the boss and credit's basically over. Then comes more environmental dangers and bullets and the chance of picking a bad upgrade by accident gets ever higher.
Compile games are really nice, but make me feel like a masochist.

Wish I could stop blowing EVERY FUCKING CREDIT of Batrider I play on the beginning of the final stage. It's not even fucking hard I have no trouble in savestate practice. I just need one clean run to the turrets and those things drop extends like they're going out of style.

Anyway i just had the brilliant idea of trying Gradius 3-arcade edition again after a year or so of not playing it.

I immediately regretted it, but now I have a challenge on my hands.

For one, back when I was playing R-Type Final, I managed to unlock all the ships in the game before doing any 1cc of some sort.

Why does Shotia have to feel so horrible in DOJ? Laser movement speed feels way too slow even compared to C-S in DDP, you have to revert to rapid shot so often just to dodge anything, but the rapid shot doesn't feel strong enough to cope with a lot of the larger enemies that pop up.

Try the JP version + Lunatic difficulty. The suicide bullets, additional enemy hp, and faster enemy movement and firing makes things feel A LOT tighter and more involved. Feels a lot more varied too, as even the first stage stuff forces you to change strategy a lot on that difficulty.

Also the reason I say JP version is because it actually lets you keep a really high power up level when you die. So the recoveries you mentioned would probably be a lot better.

Ougon's final boss as a terrifyingly insane completely undodgable BS attack, and I don't like it.

Is the blue ring -> white ring really undodgeable? It looks like if you move around to the top of the white ring before it expands it has a natural gap there, assuming your ship is fast enough (haven't played the game).

I think it is possible if you can pull off what the player tried to do there, but no, it's not fast enough to take advantage of the gap there

I see, so it wasn't particularly intended to be played on normal. Will try it out, thanks.
And I'm playing the JP version already, makes me feel like not asking how death works on the US one

You're welcome. Also in the U.S/EU version you lose all your power ups and restart with the default weapon at level 0. It's pretty rough.

Also the hardest difficulty is actually to the left of normal mode in the options menu. Most games have the easy mode to the left and hard to the right, but the options menu for this game has hard modes on both right and left and the hardest one at far left. Just wanted to point that out since it would be in Japanese lol.

My latest annoyance is games without extends. Detana Twinbee and Viper Phase 1 are the two I'm grappling with atm. I love point based extends, classic carrot psychology... and it lets me experience, in small degree, the fun of scoring without committing to full score based play. A double shame when the game has a really fun scoring system like Twinbee.

C-Strong i suppose?

Plan your bombs and use them offensively. I was struggling with DFK for 3 years on and off without manual bombing as i was using them only as a fail safe device.

Once i sat down with a pen and paper and layed out the bombs on the route i finished it in two days.

Wow. That's some dedication right there. I don't really do into that kind of strategizing. It's more of a 'Oh. An unavoidable swarm of bullets closing in and my Hyper is not ready. Bombs awa~ * dead *' :?

That feeling when you make it through the Gradius Moai stage unscatched for the first time in your entire life only to get killed by the core boss...
