About the Touhou bit: it turns out that Touhou 6 does not have a slow button. It could well be that the English patches all use the same UI, and therefore display information that isn't applicable to that particular title.

it does! the focus button is mapped to shift, I was just playing this game a couple of hours ago!
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
I just had another look. It turned out that the character only slows down if you hit the left shift key before moving it. If you hit shift during movement, then there is no effect.
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
i generally just hold down the shift button when i want to be focused, i dunno if you're supposed to or not but it works whether i'm moving already or not. a good way to check it is with reimu the pom pom things she has to the side of her will go in front of her when in focus mode.
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
i wish i could record, i'd do the fuck out of that just to have a yt video of it floating around
teosd works exactly like the other games in that engine (pcb, in, pofv). afaik the only real differences is that there's no hitbox coded/drawn(?), and i think teosd and pcb have some weird input delay bugs that in was able to fix.Bonus! wrote:I just had another look. however I've just realised stage 5 is going to be a huge problem. the homing snakes and Tageri

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
What about the st4 boss? You'll have to stay outside the whole time and deal with both the color shifting beams and those extra beams spinning with the main body that get turned on after about 20-30 sec, Easy would def help there since it makes the shifting beams shift less frequently.Blinge wrote:Gonna go normal so i can contribute to my scoreboard..Blinge wrote: Challenge accepted. Does Sokyugurentai not run correctly in MAME? ships at the very bottom layer in stage 1 will turn rainbow colors and just vanish, and in stage 3 there's a rainbow ship that constantly moves with me on the bottom layer, which I assume is supposed to be my ship's shadow.

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
On further inspection the rainbow ships that suddenly vanish in stage 1 are also supposed to be shadows; so does MAME just not render shadows for the game correctly?

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Yes there are still issues with shadows, sprites, rotations, etc.
Use SSF if you want a better emulation of Saturn/STV games.

I could have sworn there used to be a "What's It Worth?" thread on the forum somewhere, yet my searches turn up nothing. Did I imagine it?

Is XII Stag (PS2) included in the Xbox 360 Shooting Love Collection in any way, shape or form? (If not, is it worth tracking down?)
How does Sengoku Ace (PS2 Psikyo Collection Vol. 2) stack up against other early Psikyo shooters, namely Gunbird 1 and Strikers 1945? (Bonus question: is it better than Sonic Wings Special?)

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
XII Stag (under the name "XIIZeal") is included on the "Shooting Love 10th Anniversary" disc alongside G-Stream G2020 ("DeltaZeal"). There are a few differences from the PS2 version (both are ports, since it was originally an arcade game) but it's mostly the same game. It's not particularly complex (just use your close-range attacks as much as you can for more points), but if you prefer your shooters fairly simple then you might like it: I showed it to a friend of mine a little while back and he bought my spare PS2 copy off me.nosorrow wrote:Is XII Stag (PS2) included in the Xbox 360 Shooting Love Collection in any way, shape or form? Mechanics-wise it's a lot like Gunbird (slow charge shots, auto power-down); the main difference is in the presentation (though it's also more challenging), and the same goes when comparing it to Sonic Wings, really (though obviously it doesn't have as many characters to choose from). How does Sengoku Ace (PS2 Psikyo Collection Vol. 2) stack up against other early Psikyo shooters, namely Gunbird 1 and Strikers 1945? Shooting Love Collection will do then. Thanks BM.
I enjoy Gunbird 1, but found Sonic Wings Special to be quite boring (one of the few shmups I sold without ever regretting it): quality/playability wise, where does Sengoku Ace fit in (in your opinion or according to the "consensus")?

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Well, it's the first game Psikyo made after forming the company, so it's closer to Gunbird (their second) in most respects; if you're comfortable emulating you can give it a try in MAME and see how it strikes you (the PS2 version is pretty much a no-frills port), or just watch a couple of videos for the basic idea of what you're in for.
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Does Psyvariar Revision (PS2) have a dedicated roll button like Psyvariar 2 Ultimate Final (PS2)? I love the way the latter handles/controls and am looking for confirmation that the former is just as playable (with the option to remap the default button layout).
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Yes, definitely. Don't let the graphics get to you btw, Revision has much more complex and involved levels.nosorrow wrote:Does Psyvariar Revision (PS2) have a dedicated roll button like Psyvariar 2 Ultimate Final (PS2)? Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
why is it that mushihimesama futari looks really blurry and washed out on my old crt, while espgaluda 2 looks amazing and sharp? my tate'd tv is admittedly crappy, but I can't understand how there could be such a huge difference between the two games. futari is pretty much unplayable for me.
