hi guys,

have been rather busy lately but i just wanted to say - in case you're not checking offtopic, i recently posted about an event in toronto you might be interested in: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33884

the people who have posted in that thread so far obviously don't really enjoy the game-related art but i figured somebody here might find it as intriguing as i have. at least i got the vibe from some of you that there might be some art-appreciation going on.

Even if it wasn't a marketing gimmick, who would go to that just to see a video of a game that they can't even play? Seriously.

lol at "art appreciation". There's nothing interesting about that game's art at all. It looks like a bad knock-off of Metal Slug.

i think that if you look at the game screens for the "art appreciation" aspect, you're looking in the wrong place.

So then enlighten me, tell me where the art is hidden. The book with the fake concept art? :P

There is a thread for this ladies

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33884

to sum it all up, art is subjective. Arguing over what is and isn't art is really gay!

And before you go all nerd rage udderdude, if you havent seen any lepos street art (read: graf stylez) you need to get out more. The guy doing this is a graf writer I believe.

http://www.whereislepos.com/notes.html and scroll down

I dont see why you are busting Andy's balls though; he is just trying to get some interest in his friends event. What's wrong with that?

but ya, please continue this 'discussion' in the appropriate thread. And be nice, we are all friends!

In related news, meet this saturday! See ya there! :D

I just stumbled upon this thread and decided to make an account to finally start talking to people!

http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/7166/img2231w.jpg

I can't quite make out which games you've got there, but that's the coolest room ever. I'd ask if I could join for some gaming (I'm still new to shmups) if I wasn't feeling under the weather =( How often do you guys gather?

I usually do a meet every second saturday.

You are more than welcome to attend when you are feeling better.

Just keep an eye on this thread for dates, and shoot me a PM when you want to attend and I will provide directions. I'm right downtown by Queen subway station, so its quite easy to get to.

How did you find this thread/forum by the way?

Haha a friend of mine pointed me this way so I could learn the scoring system for Mushihimesama-Futari and ESPGaluda II. Not that I'm ready to go for a high score, but I was really curious about how ESPGaluda II worked. Making it my goal to 1cc MSF Black Label now! From there I curiously checked if anyone would meet up in Toronto.

Thanks for the invite, what cabinets do you have set up in that room? Also nice to meet you!

yup....I tend to update the thread title with the date for the next meet, so you can just keep an eye on that. But generally its every 2 weeks, so you can usually count on it.

show up anytime.

feel free to bring the missus too.

probably wont go too late because we are going to try and go to the anamanaguchi show(chiptunes band)

check them out here

Doors open at 8:30, show starts at 9:00 with 2 opening bands. $15 at the door apparently. Anybody who wants to come is welcome, but be advised we will be riding our bikes there from my place, and the show is at "wrongbar" at like queen and dufferin. There should be tickets at the door.

Otherwise, they are playing again Sunday at the "korova milk bar" but the show is at 9pm and I have to work the next day, so that isn't optimal.

I'll do my best. I've got some work to do in the morning and I want to try and bang out my Guwange review. If i'm not exhausted I'll definitely come.

I can't imagine there won't be tickets at the door.

I'll bring my J360 with Guwange. Brendz had a point, the more direct comparisons the better. Only thing is that the license is on my US unit so i'll need to steal a network drop so live can validate it.

Holy fuck do the gods hate me. Gardner closed from Spadina to Humber. Had to take lake shore the whole way. Stop and go traffic. Not fun in a manual with two wrecked legs. Get on the high way and i'm tailed by a cop for 15 minutes. Get into Waterloo and i'm stopped by a ride program. Go looking for a McDonalds because i'm fucking straving and cheese burgers sounded good. Found the place had been closed by the fire department for something. Finally found Pizza.

Long story short I had a hell of a miserable time getting home but it was all worth to see Jonny5 stage dive into a pit of confused nerds.

Meanwhile I passed out because I couldn't handle a mixture of coca-cola and crown royal.
Good to know you guys had an awesome time. Homework ate too much of my weekend time so I thought it would be better if I just stayed home.

Credit card got compromised, they phoned me and told me it was canceled. Basically living on it, just paid second tuition, broke as hell. Sending me a new one, and had no way to pay for parking. So I kept on driving to my check in at 6pm in Etobicoke.

Wish I could have made it, but like Koa, I was also going to bring my homework and probably would have been off in the corner doing it.

Sounds like it was a full house though and everything went well! Ill try and get to the next one, been a while since I have been there.
