Ooooo, nice one, Zeron! How'd you allocate your bombs? I'm thinking about using a laser type someday.

I finally beat Gradius III (Arcade/PS2 version) with the Wait level turned off (Wait 0). Don't think anyone has posted a full play-through with Wait 0 so here's my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC7A3iIdAwg

Took me an ungodly amount of time to pull this off, almost a full 2 years from start to finish. I did take some large breaks in between but over the last 4 months I really put in a ton of time. After all the failures (probably hundreds of failed runs and one where I literally failed on the final checkpoint) I can finally say it's done.

I know this pales in comparison to other members doing multiple loops and other totally insane stuff but for me this was the hardest challenge I've ever completed (video game-wise at least).

Thanks for listening to my ramblings :)

I got to 2-4 in DDP for the first time today. I missed the stage 2-3 extend by bombing though (if there is one?)

I wouldn't worry about it. GIII AC is just extremely hard. It's not even the fun kind of hard. I don't play the SNES port much but at least it has balance.

That's amazing, congratulations. Gradius 3 is one of the hardest games to 1CC. I normally play it with slowdown, having wait at zero would make the game like a cave bullet hell in certain parts.

Incredible! Bubble stage and Inferno do not play around at wait 0.

Awesome work. I'm not familiar with gradius but when you say arcade/ps2 version does that mean that the ps2 version with wait off is exactly the same as arcade?

If I recall correctly, Gradius III on PS2 with wait off is actually harder, (if that's even possible,) as it removes all the slowdown.

I think that's right. 'Wait on' is essentially 'arcade slowdown on'; though it's been a while since I played it on PS2. Many years.

Ah ok. I thought maybe the arcade version was fairly slowdown free.

It's notorious for slowing down, in fact.

Correct. The original arcade version of Gradius III has a lot of slowdown in certain areas, namely the Bubble and Fire Stages (2 & 7). Nearly every one of the bosses is harder too without slowdown, since it's usually quite heavy during those fights. Players usually take advantage of the slowdown to beat these stages by continuously firing when fully powered up.

Since the PS2 hardware is quite a bit more powerful than the original arcade, you have the ability to remove the slowdown through the "Wait Level" setting. There are 3 levels: Wait 2 (similar to the arcade), Wait 1 (less slowdown than the Arcade, but still some), and Wait 0 (no slowdown at all).

It actually makes the game a lot harder because it's extremely difficult to survive stage 7 without any slowdown at all. My strategy for that stage is actually to have the option hunter steal all your options and then go through it "naked" as it is way easier to control what you are shooting at without full options. That's the only way I've ever been able to survive stage 7 under Wait 0. In the video I posted I screwed that part up and he only stole 1 option haha.

Actually none of the wait options are accurate. Wait 2 has more, Wait 1 has less.

And isn't there some glitch with the Wait levels on the PS2/PSP ports that could make a part of the final stage impossible?

I think that "feature" is also in the arcade version. And when I say "aracade version" I think that's mostly people playing it emulated on MAME, so I have no idea if that is 100% accurate with the real PCB or not.

If you have full options and shoot too much during the part with the laser bars it can make the path impossible to pass. You just need to refrain from spamming your fire and it's possible to pass. It's not an issue if you turn the wait off though, although it makes it harder to avoid all the crap they throw at you without the slowdown. It's definitely not impossible, even on loop 2, as I've beaten that part using stage select before.

I haven't played the PSP version so I'm not sure about that one.

I've heard wait 2 on the PS2 version isn't the same as the Arcade but I've never seen any concrete proof of that statement. From playing the PS2 version on Wait 2 and watching arcade playthoughs on youtube I can't notice any real difference. They both slowdown like crazy in certain areas and bosses.

Which shot type? They're all different difficulties, so it actually matters :)

Yes, Type-A & Shuri, so the first faster red ship with autobombs on.

Regarding difficulty, it appears that I activated the Shuri image with a red dress on without her white overcoat, though she is still clad.

So, perhaps middle difficulty? Assuming this as the bikini image represents the hardest difficulty setting. The setting in the replay appears to be the default.

I am looking at the replay footage.

Yeah, I meant the 'mode', sorry. The top is Shot, second is Laser, bottom is Expert. They're essentially "easy", "medium" and "hard", though the difference between Shot and Laser isn't nearly as big as the difference between Laser and Expert.

Awesome that you got the Laser Novice clear! Try for Expert Novice, I've heard it's actually really good, and not too insane :P

Thanks! :D

I am playing SDOJ right now so I will take your suggestion and drive it up a notch.

Edit: It's a good mode. Has increased bullets with more complex patterns but the speed in which the bullets traverse the screen is still slower than the arcade mode. Definitely a step up in difficulty.

Alright!!!!
Managed to clear Super Stardust HD's 2nd loop. Not the most impressive as the game gives you plenty resources, but it was a good challenge and this is my first 2-ALL.

I finally got a 1CC. I did it in the normal mode of Armed Police Batrider. I suppose some people would argue you have to unlock every hidden boss, but I don't care! 8) I have only been into the genre for about a year, and it's been very on and off that I play. I keep buying new shmups (though I only have about 20) and so I never play anything for too long. I finally decided to start playing more seriously and I thought Batrider would be a fun one to go for.

I did it with two lives left as well, and am pretty stoked about it.

Anybody here actually care though?

What's up with this victim mentality? You 1cc'd a game, and you can be proud of it. You overcame a challenge. No matter what you do, there will always be someone who is infinitely better than you, but this does not mean that you achievements are worthless.

Also, you should keep in mind that 1cc'ing pretty much any game puts you into an elite circle to which only a few percent of players of this game belong.
