One of the titles I was sad I wouldn't be able to play. Less sad now.
The MS show case of this made me think "fantastic - everything shit about generic 3rd party 3rd person action games combined with all the complaints about what next gen is bringing" aka: the same old crap but looks a bit nicer.

That said - even as someone who will buy into PS4/PC - i think i'm already tempering my expectations.

CliffyB - i had a mare when i went home. My parents had upgraded to BT Broadband and they were getting sub-dial up speeds. All i got was "our speeds are based on a best effort" and a series of checks i was supposed to do to double check i wasn't doing the internet wrong. They'd send out a tuning engineer... but you know... it'll cost you. :/

Anyways, Cliffy might have a point about Europe sorting out its internet in terms of service providers but MS leaning people throwing poop at everyone else because they failed to spot -why- these decissions wouldn't sit well with customers is jarring. And retracting previous "well, they might be using the cloud for blah blah" statements i made to cover the possibility MS had something up their sleeves, they have NOTHING in the need for always online that is of -any- benefit to customers. Right now it's literally just DRM dressed up as "bu bu bu CLOUD!" and the fact sheet that tries to paint a reduction in your rights as a customer as some sort huge enablement made me spew up in my mouth a bit.

As discussed with other people elsewhere - i'm completely alienated from MS now, i have no idea what they are doing or see any benefit in anything they are doing. So they can shove the X1.
Possible new low!
you know what is really sad about all this ? I'm pretty sure this is seen internally as "cool guerrila marketing tactics!"

I'm... not even going to read that. Anyone pathetic enough to think that needs to amish themselves so we wouldn't need to deal with them.

yeah, i've heard noise from a few places that internally MS think that the noise is just coming from crushed Sony fanboys.... i think they are in for a surprise.

This article however hinges entirely on the whole consumer base simply swallowing down the terms MS -alone- are putting up. Also - the idea that the collective buying power of XX million XBL customers will drive -down- game costs when there's simultaneously a closed and restricted second hand market ? Keep huffing that glue!

also : i notice there's talk of an "exception" model for offline regions and military. You can't make this crap up.

The amazing thing now is that even if MS backtrack from all this - they're still hosed : a less powerful machine that costs $100 more and whole bag of suspicion and ill win. It's not just shooting yourself in the foot, it's removing your legs entirely.

I predict that we'll get convergence between the policies of MS and Sony. We'll get played for the Sony advantage for now, but in the end they'll come together.

Eventually it'll be the way forward....

but i just wonder what happens now - what with iOS having a controller API.

Ipad with hdmi/signal out could become the home console you take everywhere

What if -gasp- Cave add API support?

If PS4 stays this way it'll seem that Xbone really is the odd one out. I mean, Wii U has this already. If the shmups go to PS4 I'll be getting one......when it doesn't cost $549 AUD.

I think it's great. I don't really play iOS games b/c I don't generally like touch controls. But... Having kids, I can definitely say that mine appreciate a $2 iOS game as much as they appreciate a $30 DS game. I tried to pickup a controller for the iPad but as soon as I realized it mapped as a keyboard it was downhill.

If you didn't notice, Capcom just released a few of the Phoenix Wright games on iOS... good stuff for little money there. I don't see it as a replacement for the legacy platforms, and I'll miss some aspect. But hey, home gaming killed off the arcades and it'd better keep an eye over the shoulder.

Wow, that's a bit heavy. And by a bit, I mean weight of the moon.
There's stopping people from going online [reasonable], and then there's completely axing their Xbone game library [how is that reasonable].
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Wasn't there some fiasco years ago involving Xbox 360 users being banned accidentally by the dozens because of some software issue and not because they'd actually done anything? Imagine something like that happening, losing your profile, and all your games you 'bought' with it.

Some more information on the HP box playing Xbox One games here:

PC ports incoming confirmed!

What the fuck was that Jalopnik guy thinking? Putting his ability to go to future MS events ahead of doing his job as a journalist IMO, although at least the story got out.

Microsoft NEVER has ANY right to delete your photos - they're your property. Nor do they have any right to tell you to go with them.

They could sue somebody for violating an agreement and taking pictures, but then maybe somebody should sue Microsoft's ass off for false advertising when the Xbox One finally releases.

CliffyB's knowledge of Europe comes from Resident Evil 4.

Also LOL at those JEFFK strips. Man it's been a while. Indeed it seems that whichever way the Wind Dose blows the sign around is the way CliffyB goes (except when there is young butts around).

Sorry Microsoft, you've breached my TOS, so you're banned, sry.

Remember what they say about bad publicity though. If there's really no such thing, then all this could be very good for MS.

Damn this is so much fun. I don't know what the fuck is going with MS recently. It looks like if they were looking for a sudden death or something. First step Windows8, next one their shitty SurfaceTabletand now Xbox One.
Next big thing to happen, no more wars really, I'd never thought MS will go out of business that soon.

Even despite all this fuckery, it's not like anyone else is going to take over the OS market. Win8 will be ignored like Vista was and Win9 will release and people will just use that.

The Xbone has a distressing chance of succeeding considering that your average dudebro doesn't give a fuck about the whole DRM situation.

Not when the average dudebro can get their dudebro fix elsewhere for $100 less and no strings attached.
