Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
This upcoming TxK game on the PS Vita looks to be a great spiritual successor to the classic T2K game from the one & only, Jeff Minter.
http://www.minotaurproject.co.uk/devblog/?p=74
It's been said that it'll be priced at a mere $9.99 USD on the USA region PSN site...can't wait for that February 11th, 2014 release date (which falls on a Tuesday).
Of course, playing the ol' Jag game of T2K with a proper optional Jag rotary spinner controller is the best way to play it hands down. It's a shame that a 1st-party Jag spinner controller wasn't sold/created by Atari themselves with the March 1994 T2K launch debut in the USA -- would've sold like "hotcakes hot off the griddle" easily as a bundled set. I was blown away by the trippy Melt-O-Vision effects when T2K finally arrived on the local Jag demo kiosk set up inside the Modesto, CA location of The Good Guys electronics speciality chain (that ended up being bought out by CompUSA later on as a business merger).
Sounds like TxK will be the PS Vita "killer app" to keep a watch on -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1itDIisnyM

That's old footage. The video I linked to on the previous page is from today.

Perhaps, but today's footage you provided is as glitchy as all-get-out. Video plays like crap.Friendly wrote:That's old footage. The video I linked to on the previous page is from today.
PCEFX's video may be old, grainy, and lower resolution, but at least it played.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Minter really is the gleeful mad scientist of game development. I look forward to seeing his latest concoction running on the Vita's OLED screen.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
The problem is on your end. I think Minter himself created the video, and it's perfectly fine 60fps AVC (High@L3.2). I suggest you update your codecs/video player/computer.boagman wrote:Perhaps, but today's footage you provided is as glitchy as all-get-out. Video plays like crap.Friendly wrote:That's old footage. I just D/L'd the video and played it in VLC. Just fine.
Made me fairly hype, that was pretty.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Interesting. I was using my phone to watch it, and while the YouTube video was fine, the new video was nothing but choppy and freezy. I'll see what happens when I get back home from Fort Lauderdale to Detroit.Friendly wrote:The problem is on your end. Well, while down in Fort Lauderdale on vacation, I ventured into a local Best Buy and they had Rayman Legends (mis)priced at $19.99, and they insisted that they'd sell it to me at that price, so since I also had a $16 BB e-gift card burning a hole in my pocket, I figured I'd pick it up for $5.19 out of pocket.
Here's hoping that it's worth at least that much!

I adored Legends. The 'music levels' are particularly brilliant. Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I am enjoying it. If nothing else, it's an exceptional exercise for showing off the "I didn't know how good it is until now!" OLED screen on the beast. I'm quite impressed with the aesthetics of the game (graphics, audio, etc.), and while I'm sure I've just brushed the surface of the game, what I've played so far has been pretty good and engaging, with special attention being paid to using the machine's different abilities. For $5 out of pocket, I'm not mad at all.spadgy wrote:I adored Legends. The 'music levels' are particularly brilliant. One caveat: I *HATE* the lack of a physical, paper manual. HATE this. Badly. I may get over it, but I find it in all forms of bad taste.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I know what you mean. I'm a fan of that environment that our world lives in, and I'm sure Mother Nature fucking loathes paper manuals, but I'd prefer 'em too. I'm sure it's just a money saving exercise for our friends the publishers, which they're entitled to do, but a lovely manual, as well as being useful can be part of what makes the whole package of a game so enjoyable to own. And I like to have something to read on the bus home from the store; same way I used to get the Lego instructions out of the box before getting home as a kid (and still).
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I was a bit peeved about the lack of paper manuals, too, at first. Of course this is only about cost saving and not because they love the environment so much, but for portable games it actually makes sense when you think about it: If you play those games on the go you wouldn't carry around any manuals with you anyway, so having an on-screen manual instead is a good idea because you can always access it in those rare instances when you actually need it.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
You're right, of course. They're really an unwarranted extra, but those of us prone to nostalgia will likely always long for them.
That said, it's a very subtle longing, and a very minor peeve for me.
Moving back to games for the Vita, why is that seemingly barely anybody playing OlliOlli? It's superb! I know I set myself up for a 'because nobody owns a Vita' gag, but really, if you own a Vita, check out OlliOlli. It's great if you love twitch and score-chasing.
EDIT: And re that Vita 2000 news, I hope that helps the platform. Its a wonderful bit of gamers' kit with many glorious games, and it's gutting it's not been as successful as it deserves to be. I still sense that bringing out a very high-end gaming-focused handheld in an era of smartphone gaming is the true reason it's not thrived. The Vita is my favourite 'current-gen' hardware excluding arcade-cab shaped things, so I'm always hopeful it will suddenly accelerate in terms of its market penetration.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I haven't bought Olli Olli yet as I'm still pondering on which Final Fantasy games I want to buy in the UK and US sale... There are also a few PS1 games I want to pick up too, as well as God of War: GoS as a digital download. Not to mention other games that are in a similar price bracket on PC and PS360.spadgy wrote: Moving back to games for the Vita, why is that seemingly barely anybody playing OlliOlli? It's superb! As for the Vita 2000? I think the £180 pricetag is a little too high, and hopefully retailers can discount the new model to a more reasonable £150 in the coming weeks. And yes, I do agree with you on the notion that the Vita is a wonderful piece of kit. Like you, I find the Vita as my favourite "current gen" hardware (and my favourite gaming platform after the Snes).

How do you guys feel about the non-OLED, slim Vita?
I'm an happy PSP player and don't really feel the urge to upgrade to a region locked (well, account-locked), proprietary-memcard system. But I wouldn't want to pass on the OLED vita if the new one is something like a "street" PSP...

I understand pretty much *exactly* how you feel/what you're saying. I'm in (er, was in) the same boat...still enjoying my PSP, so why upgrade?Turrican wrote:How do you guys feel about the non-OLED, slim Vita?

Vita's been on my radar for quite a while, and while I'm still waiting for the killer game to get me over-the-moon excited, the prospect of waiting and losing out on the OLED screen was enough to make me jump. Add to that the fact that I'd like to reward them for what I consider to be a very great success in the PSP, and I bought in. It bears repeating: the screen is absolute bliss. It, like the PSP before it, is *very* impressive hardware.
For $190 with a 4GB memory card and "The Walking Dead" with the Wi-Fi/3G version, I bit.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
The OLED is certainly glorious. I might prefer CRTs over HD TVs, but in the case of the Vita, I'm smitten by the screen's glossy prowess.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Impressions from people who have tried one are generally pretty positive. It's a pretty high quality LCD.Turrican wrote:How do you guys feel about the non-OLED, slim Vita?

I would wait until you actually see one before deciding that the OLED version is superior by default and worth sacrificing battery and ergonomics for.

Understood, with the caveat that you make the comparison far sooner than later. It can be *amazing* how fast the previous, better model can run out of stock (basically everywhere) when a newer, "more cost effective" model comes out, and all the folks who were on the fence are suddenly thinking they need to make a choice RIGHT NOW or be left with no choice at all.ZellSF wrote:Impressions from people who have tried one are generally pretty positive. Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I don't think running out of stock will an issue. I do agree you should make the decision sooner rather than later because there will be less retailers carrying them after a while and certainly less special offers... but I still believe you'll be able to get a (slightly more expensive) new in box OLED Vita for at least half a year if not longer.boagman wrote:Understood, with the caveat that you make the comparison far sooner than later. In unrelated news, MIND≒0 (that's the game accused of being a Persona ripoff) is getting localized by Aksys. This "survival horror" game is potentially interesting. NA's IGC this month is Modnation Racers and Street Fighter X Tekken. Another kart racer so soon after Sonic transformed is boring, but Street Fighter X Tekken is nice. PS3 games are Metro Last Light, Payday 2 and Remember Me. PS4 gets Outlast. Overall a good month for PS3-only gamers, but for people who also have gaming PCs... not so much.
I got a 64 GB memory card and decided to download some demos on it. I keep being amazed by how good graphics the Vita is actually capable of. Sort of regret not getting Sly 4 in the PSN sale because it looks amazing and runs at a decent framerate (yeah I know it's not 60 FPS). It was also much more interesting to play than I thought. Resistance also looked good, but I couldn't get through the long forced intro before I had to do something else.
Since I mentioned Valkyria Chronicles 3 here already, I played through the translation (did I mention that's out?) and finished the main story part of the game. It's so good (the game, not the story). If you're considering it and haven't played 2, feel free to skip it and go straight for 3. Translation works on Vita TN V7+

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
There's talk that the upcoming Vita killer app of TxK will be a mere five quid purchase (or whatever SCEE decides to charge for it) when it finally appears on the UK PSN site. Makes me wonder if a proper TxK CD soundtrack will materialize (like with the Imagitec produced T2K music CD soundtrack). It'd be pure heaven to listen to it in pure 44.1kHz format indeed.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I've now done a bit more video watching of this game, and I'm getting less and less excited about it. It looks quite a bit more RPG-ey than I'd be comfortable with, I think. All the spells, weapons, shields/armor, magic...whatever. I just want to beat stuff up, I think.boagman wrote:Because of your statement, specifically about this game in this case, I've looked into Dragon's Crown, and I have to admit: it certainly does look pretty appealing to me. You're severely limiting yourself by avoiding any game that has RPG elements in it. It's a VERY broad range of games you're avoiding.
Not sure I'm willing to drop $40 on it, but it's definitely on my radar now. Thanks.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I'm thinking of buying another Vita, just so that I don't have to put up with the "region lock" issues...
On another note, I've just bought Final Fantasy 4 Complete Collection and Final Fantasy 6 in the UK PSN sale. FF6 is mangled, and the loading screens are incredibly slow. FF4 CC however looks really nice on the Vita.

Yep, a second Vita will work wonders around that region lock/one account issue...then you can d/l all those cool JPN PSN site goodies to your Vita, PSP and PS3. Even the Taito Darius Burst shmup title is up for sale as a digital d/l for both the PSP/Vita for a mere 4,000 yen. Some folks have gone down that particular route of owning two Vitas just to play both their native PSN region account and JPN PSN accounts.
Even if you d/l PSP stuff off of the JPN PSN site, it requires that the PSP be changed to a JPN account just to play them properly...I recall that issue was non-existant back in 2010-2011 (before SCEA had to deal with the hacked USA PSN accounts fiasco and revamp it's regional PSN sites from the ground up).

I'd say, buy it and give it a try; there is a reason why most people love it. If you don't like it, you can always sell it and probably won't lose much money.boagman wrote: I've now done a bit more video watching of this game, and I'm getting less and less excited about it. Dragons Crown I haven't really played that much, as I'm currently knee deep into Final Fantasy 7 on my PSP. It would have been the Vita, but alas, I can't be bothered wiping my UK account and starting over.
I need to buy a s/h Vita soonish... Just for the US content.
