Yeah, over-write the old scores with better ones(Let's try again without the no-bullet!). Otherwise you might as well delete the save file.SFKhoa wrote:Is there any way to reset the high score table? I did a no-bullet run and now the high score's up there w/ my "serious run" scores.

I managed to get all of the achievements. Yay. Combo Master and Shooting King were complete grinding. I guess they were the hardest but whatever, I don't care. Time to uninstall and shelf (or possibly sell) this.
Oh, if you're bored and want some fun, boost the X Mode Extra options to 3 and play as Leinyan. It's hilarious. I managed to get a chain of 72000 on the stage 4 boss.

just got this game in the mail yesterday, first impressions:
DoDonPachi is better.
I've never been blown away by DOJ based on videos I've seen of it, it has always looked forgettable and empty, and although I do need to play DOJBL more now that I have it, because maybe it will grow on me.. It has confirmed my feelings based on prior videos, it starts off rather weak compared to how DDP kicks off.
There appeared to be a lack of "details" from what I could tell, at least nothing jumped out and struck me as cool... bullets pop in (no muzzle flash frames), explosions seem crappy and lacking frames compared to DDP, no sparks, shrapnel or debris flying... weak shot impacts, also really dislike the pre-rendered look, ages poorly compared to DDP's art style, small ships (including player) seem near-unrecognizable and smaller than they should be.
So overall, it feels very bare bones as a shooter, even if it plays well something about the experience just doesn't seem alive with the rush like DDP or other shooters I play or proudly own, hard to explain but the feeling just isn't there. The game as a whole feels very empty.
I'd feel ripped off if I bought this PCB for more than the price of a DDP PCB, so I'm glad I only spent $68 on it.
as a port, the load times are dumb for the menus themselves, but don't get in the way once you're in BL or WL.
They also hand out achievements for everything.
*edit*
I'm sure I will still play it a lot, I wanted to play it this morning before work actually, I'm not going to dismiss it entirely, but I was hoping for DDP + more, as a comparison it struck me as a bit like something between DP and DDP, maybe the intensity of later stages will change my opinion more in favor of it. And I hate to sound like I'm hung up on graphics, but this is just how the game overall feels, I know it could still have the same artwork and feel better, just seems lacking in subtle details and care. Maybe it is due to hype and high expectations of DOJ, but as a comparison I know the videos of Ketsui strike me as being a lot more awesome.

You know what's really weird is how they dole out the bullet cancelling. Exy really gets screwed here.Elixir wrote:I managed to get all of the achievements. Yay. Piper: One Hyper gives you bullet-cancelling shots and laser
Shotia: One Hyper gives you bullet-cancelling shots, but not laser
Leinyan: One Hyper gives you bullet-cancelling laser, but not shots
Exy: Two stacked hypers give you bullet-cancelling laser and shots
No reason to really ever pick Exy.

Another thing to note is that Piper's Hyper only lasts about 2/3s the duration of everyone else's.8 1/2 wrote: You know what's really weird is how they dole out the bullet cancelling. Exy really gets screwed here.

Learn to chain the first two stages (w/ perfect bees) and get back to us. And the "cool" thing you're missing, is the absence of the "cool" (quotes, b/c it's not cool -- actually amazingly awful) cock rock soundtrack found in DDP.There appeared to be a lack of "details" from what I could tell, at least nothing jumped out and struck me as cool...

One of the things for me is that Ketsui and DOJ seem to share a similar look and art style… they seem to share many colors and theme to me… if the look, art direction, and over all presentation of DOJ is not inspiring to you, Ketsui could lead to similar dissapointment?kemical wrote:just got this game in the mail yesterday, first impressions:

i actually do miss some of the DDP soundtrack, so that must be it. Fulfilling the unresolved bits as a child of watching airwolf and whatever else on tv in the 80s destoying tons of shit. I like the DOJ music more so far though. I'm going to work on chaining definitely, but a lot of my initial enjoyment of playing a new shooter doesn't come from that sort of thing.GaijinPunch wrote: RebuttalLearn to chain the first two stages (w/ perfect bees) and get back to us. I dont think Ketsui will underwhelm me when I play it, my thoughts on DOJ vs Ketsui based only on videos was always that I liked Ketsui more, much in the way of how I would say ESP Ra.De. looks more appealing compared to Guwange based on videos of it.

another thing, is it just really hard to hear or does the shot sound fom the player ship cut out a lot?

The game is all about chaining though. To completely ignore it and say it's bare bones, is like saying someone is a bitch w/o having sex with her.I'm going to work on chaining definitely, but a lot of my initial enjoyment of playing a new shooter doesn't come from that sort of thing.

you're right haha, and i suddenly realized this when i notice the attract mode clearly showing off how to chain the first part of stage 1 and use the hyper also in stage 2...GaijinPunch wrote:The game is all about chaining though. So I've been playing it a lot more tonight and I'm enjoying it, I feel kinda dumb but the things that stood out for me as lacking at first kinda went away, prior to first playing DOJ I'd been playing alot of Raiden IV which I love.. so maybe that had something to do with it.
It could also be I just suffered temporary brain damage from the toxic smelling shower curtain i had pulled out the packaging and put up just before unsealing DOJ (been moving).....
anyway its growing on me, just didnt blow me away during the first couple tries like other Cave games I've played, thats all.

Which got me wondering... has anyone tried using the USB Saturn pad on a 360? Does it recognize the controller and map buttons accordingly?jonny5 wrote:out of curiosity, what controller are you playing this with elixir?
i know you normally prefer a saturn pad and dont like sticks so much...if you are using the saturn pad how are you hooking it up?

I am (or was) playing with a 360 dpad. It surprised me when I managed to 1cc DOJ BL with it. I only like Seimitsu sticks and there's only the HRAP EX SE, which is impossible to find. Apparently the SFIV SE sticks have poor quality PCBs as well, and I don't really want to go into modding at this point. I'll probably order one of those SFIV pads as a last resort.

At the MD Shmupmeet this past weekend, we were wondering how Sakari planned on breaking Ketsui.adversity1 wrote:Edit: reading it, it seems that all enemies will give off suicide bullets after being shot down, and then you can cancel these bullets by destroying larger enemies like planes and tanks. Also, apparently the laser cancels these bullets.

So there's no scanline option?8 1/2 wrote:Visual Options:Doctor Fugue wrote:Could someone list the viewing options?
Can you manually adjust the position/size of the screen?
Can you manually adjust the position of the meters?
Can you tate in both directions? (for computer monitors that only rotate the "wrong" direction)
Is there a respectable 16:10 tate zoomed option?
I'm just wondering if it has many options like in some other games (XBLA Ikaruga).
Display: Horizontal A and B, Vertical A and B (flip to either side)
OverScan: Select the % of overscan (scale screen larger or smaller)
Aspect Ratio: 16:9 and 16:10
Smoothing: On or Off
Wallpaper: Select image
Wallpaper Brightness: Select % of opacity
