Preposterous. Without the far-eastern sellers on there, most people here, especially those newer to the genre, would be stuck playing flickery roms, or the few console dlc ports that appeared last gen. Great.

I can remember physical independant stores in the '90s selling JP imports on the 16 and 32 bit consoles. The prices were absurd, and this is for every game, not just the games we now regard as classics.

^ This is true!

Although there's still a perfectly legitimate argument that eBay has been instrumental in driving up prices of Japanese software in a textbook example of raw capitalism.

yeah, I wouldn't have half my imports if it wasn't for ebay. They were good for some US games too. While I do think they are part of the blame for the rising prices, it's still possible to find good deals on there.

I would argue the opposite. I remember buying J-stuff back in the days before the internet even, and you are at the whim of whatever the importers want to charge, which is traditionally a huge markup. As shitty as Ebay is, it does add competition to the market place.

BULK LOT 1250 PAPERBACKS - PRIVATE COLLECTION

All the excitement of buying unopened wax packs of '81 Fleer or something, finding Gary Carter cards in each, ruined by a stick of gum. Actually, that would be a hell of an improvement over probable cat lady's collection of thumb-worn and possibly mildewed paperbacks.

ebay has always been like that though. back in the late 90s i did well buying consoles at the flea market and selling them on ebay because the price difference was huge.

none of the local sellers knew about ebay back then.

the most annoying thing about ebay is that everyone knows about it now and theres not many good local deals to be found anymore.

now ebay sets all the local prices, and ebay has always been high to begin with.

another annoying thing is hearing about people getting good deals on craigslist. I wish i could find some. I never find Nes tvs for $150 and similar shit i hear about a lot. ever.

either my local craigslist just sucks or theirs nothing good out there anymore, or EBAY is driving those prices too.

and arcades - i hardly see any original arcades on craigslist. almost all of them are conversions that people want several thousand for.

what happened to rough projects and empty cabinets with monitors that need some work that could be had for cheap?

if i knew it was going to be this hard to find a replacement i would have just kept my strikers 1945 dynamo cabinet i paid $200 for. it was in good shape and just needed the pcb fixed. but i didnt want to move it again. i figured id just buy another cabinet for $200 when i got where i was going.

Look at those shiny "retro RED" buttons! Oh, the froth! Looks like it's in really great shape too!

Why does this person keep relisting this?

Why?

It doesn't stop there - how does this seller get away with such chicanery? Is that the right word? This is a pre-owned pair of sandals...fucking GROSS! And, there is allegedly 1 watcher. All their items have a super high starting bid, but this one takes it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WOMENS-Dr-Marte ... 3aaa6e5bae

The BBFB clothing line!

Doesn't eBay assess a stupid tax on junk like this?
