Let's give the Xdog an Xpunt and talk about Nintendo instead.
Well, the idea is that what Nintendo offers is its own little niche. It turned out to be that way with the N64, which ruined their fun a bit, but they just kinda kept it going from there and turned into a pretty cool bunch of folks. The success of the Wii was a smart business strategy that was done with the same principle in mind. With the Wii U, they'll just go back to ~chillin'~ and doing what it is they do. Obviously there are problems here and there, but a good number of those are caused by things not entirely up to them. Either way, it's kinda hard not to have at least a little respect for these guys.BareknuckleRoo wrote:It makes total, 100% sense from a marketing standpoint to use all the negative backlash against Microsoft and spin it to make the PS4 look awesome. Nintendo's really missing out, which is mostly because they just released the Wii U so they don't have anything new to seriously hype up or offer as a serious alternative.

It almost seems intentionally written as confusingly as possible. I have no idea how this system works. Last time Microsoft were vague about something it didn't turn out to well...Cuilan wrote:Well, there seems to be at least one bit of good news...

Still, it's best to wait & see how this works out before getting excited.

I'm worried that the amount of idiots who buy the XBOne will be just enough for microsoft to get away with what its doing. The are many people who actually have no problem with what they're doing, or just have no fucking clue about it.

yeah, people i'd class as more "casual" gamers are all celebrating having their preorders in already. Asked a couple what they thought about the DRM/second hand stuff/always on and they didn't know about it and after being told about it didn't care either.I'm worried that the amount of idiots who buy the XBOne will be just enough for microsoft to get away with what its doing. So yeah - i expect the X1 to probably dominate the US and possibly the UK regardless of what the issues are or whether the PS4 is technically better.

oh, that's good to hear.
I have to be honest, i've enjoyed the X360 immensely and have purchased just about everything of any note on the system, but with the recent MS shennanigans i'd happily enjoy seeing them get absolutely thrashed back into last place so all the nonsense they're trying to push gets at least delayed for another couple of gens.
I also wonder whether having one cheaper machine dominate the next gen might be good for all concerned , especially publishers/dev houses given the rocky times?

What a cork that Bleszinski guy is. I don't hear Dell or MS complaining about the sale of used PCs eating into the hardware or OS business. Or GM and Ford bitching about the used car market. And so on with LG, Panasonic and every other company whose products can be resold.Udderdude wrote:Good response to the ridiculous "Used games are hurting the industry" nonsense .. http://www.destructoid.com/used-games-a ... 6227.phtml

If Killer Instinct turns out good, I'll probably get xbone.
Games are the only thing I care about in consoles really. Although if Guilty Gear Xrd is PS4 exclusive, I'll be getting that.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

Re: Xbone: It's Official: No More Game Ownership
If memory serves, don't both MS and Sony already include something like this in their terms of service (not sure about Nintendo)? Not that I condone continuing the practice, certainly (let alone having implemented it in the first place), but I seem to recall a bit of hubbub about this not too long ago...which, of course, quickly died down as everyone went back to playing their games.Ed Oscuro wrote:Anyway, this is lovely too. Yes and no:

Also: Cliff Bleszinski officially has no clue:

Can't really blame him for taking that side, shame he turned out to be another greedy twerp.

That is just disgusting. I don't know whether to be angrier at Microsoft or the US government for allowing it. This is a problem that goes far far deeper than our video-game-tapes.Ed Oscuro wrote:Anyway, this is lovely too. Heads we win, tails you RRoD!

That's a good point actually. You definitely wouldn't expect something like this to fly in some other industries, like autos. "PRESS YES TO SIGN AWAY YOUR LIFE and this unlocks the ignition"

Re: PS4 - No Forced Online, No System-Wide Used Game DRM
I have the DMZ-1 or whatever the Sony 3D helmet thing is called - it's got no head tracking and is generally a bit on the naff side due to a few design choices, however, playing Gears of War 3 in 3D on it was pretty awesome - the issue i found (which OD would address) is that i wanted to look round to see what was going on elsewhere. Other than that it was pretty awesome.Well, it probably wouldn't be as immersive as 1st person view, but I can see myself playing 3rd-person view games with the rift, looking like a spectator over the shoulder of the protagonist.
Picking up OD once the 1080P units hit - i thought i'd read that PS4 would support OD?

Murm, CliffyB has always been a bit of a douche. 'Is why he's such a perfect foil for JeffK and gets called a plant molester on the regular.Ed Oscuro wrote:Can't really blame him for taking that side, shame he turned out to be another greedy twerp.
He's probably on the mild side. We've been over this before, but for example Blizzard developers think they're king fuck of shit mountain. They must be - they work at Blizzard after all.
It's a lot like the porn industry - you've gotta have a huge narcissistic streak to make it. As a wise man (Greg Valentino) once said: You're either the little worm or you're the barracuda, and Arnold is the barracuda.
Still, a man like Chris Metzen should never have so much power over so many nerds.
... I just googled him and his photographs spiked my rage zone.

Re: Xbone: It's Official: No More Game Ownership
Just imagine the fun we could have if Microsoft pushed out these changes as Testing in Production! Of course, given the possibility of getting pushed over to their current scheme, it's a test I'd not want to be a part of even if they were mailing free games and blowjobs every day.
