Yes, I agree. I was quite surprised that cave didn't at least announce it in English. Considering the announcement has little benefits to their Japanese audience.denpanosekai wrote:I still find it a little odd that Cave (and Triangle Service) aren't being more agressive with promoting the region-free aspect of their upcoming games. At least Siliconera picked up the "story" but it'd be kinda cool if they sent out PDF promo sheets to bigger news sites out there.
I hope theirs still limited edition copies floating around a while after launch. I unfortunately don't have the money for it at present.

You say that but go and buy a new and sealed copy of the cave shooting collection today for less than £500 (double what I paid for mine).Skykid wrote:It won't last, believe me.enjirube wrote: I believe the SLE is going to be hard to source even now, and the game isn't even out yet. You're overestimating their foreign userbase. Half the members of this forum are emulation and touhou ripping kids who can't afford a 360, and another third aren't that desperate for the game. The hype here doesn't translate into 100,000 foreign sales, and Cave know it. Therefore publicity beyond a Twitter message is unnecessary for them. It's just to say "we couldn't get this licensed for a foreign release, so it's region free as a last game gift to you tiny demographic of potential buyers."denpanosekai wrote:I still find it a little odd that Cave (and Triangle Service) aren't being more agressive with promoting the region-free aspect of their upcoming games. Keep in mind all the Cave localisations to date sold like complete shit, enough to see Aksys and Rising Star bow out due to losses. The Deathsmiles sales were accidental and didn't draw a lot of profit due to incorrect pricing. In short, the overseas market is almost insignificant.
I am going to call it again and say the SLE will be super rare almost immediately after release and a new copy will be like gold dust.

I couldn't disagree more with this comment. Xbox Live isn't just about selling Gold subs, its increasing focus is on selling games, be it XBLA, XBLIG & GoD. Selling software on Live has significantly reduced distribution costs compared to selling at retail. There's a huge catalogue of games available on Live now and Microsoft will want to keep selling that software. Given that the next generational leap will probably be the least significant technical leap in console history, especially where the layman is concerned, that huge back catalogue can continue to be sold on the new hardware. This is especially pertinent to rumours that Microsoft will continue to sell the 360 in a cutdown form as some sort of media box without an optical drive. This scenario is completely incomparable to the first Xbox. Hardware manufacturers are now following Apple's online distribution model where the value of a huge back catalogue of online games is key to success. This is so glaringly obvious it's pretty surprising that it has to be spelt out.HydrogLox wrote:I beg to differ - try to connect to XBox Live with an Xbox 360 that has not had a software update since 2005, Nov. 22 - you can't unless you accept an update. Xbox Live will evolve to support the 8th generation platform - so Microsoft will try to minimize the money and resources that are expended on keeping the Xbox 360 software in sync and eventually decommission the services that support the Xbox 360 on Xbox Live. The earlier they can pull that off, the more money they'll save - so they are motivated to find an "excuse" once the next platform is on the market.Kiken wrote:Apples to oranges. ... Considering you actually bought the collection, I'll hazard a guess and say I've been following the Cave game for longer than you have. I know how it goes: nearly everything falls eventually, especially console jazz, either because interest dies or because Cave find a way to make it lose its desirability. Sensible advice: sell now and buy again later when its done a u-turn.

Also, stop worrying about about 360xboxlive stuff gone.
Sure, in 10 years it will be. But you'll be able to buy a 360 for 20$/£/€, hack it for pretty much nothing, count on someone with a save for each games with the best replays, title update and DLCs, just transfer everything and you're good to go.
SLE price might drop at some point, but that stg collection will stay hi if only for the super play DVDs, unless they get reissued for dirt cheap.

I'd only say it's past the stage of buying SH3 boxes for £100. Guwange, Dangun, DDP, Esprade & Donpachi, Uo Poko boxes are unlikely to shift much from crazy expensive (assuming you ever find them.)AntiFritz wrote:Man, at least the forum seems to be long past that stage. I actually hope that you are right because in the event I don't get the SLE I preordered for SDOJ, I want one to be a) be available and b) not be at an extortionate price.
I am of course inclined to agree with you, console stuff will drop sharply as soon as the console has played out its current generation.
Apologies for the sarcasm, heat of the moment.

The Gold subs have always just been the thin edge of the wedge. Ultimately Microsoft doesn't want to sell you anything - they want you on the hook to pay them every month (or whatever payment cycle) for any Microsoft product you may have access to. Xbox Live is an entertainment service that wants a constant connection to your wallet so that it can continually siphon money out of it whether you use its services or not. They would rather "rent" than "sell" the games to you. And the mainstream entertainment consumer is going to lap that up because they are only interested in the latest and greatest anyway.bcass wrote:Xbox Live isn't just about selling Gold subs, its increasing focus is on selling games, be it XBLA, XBLIG & GoD.
So there is no need to support the old hardware because it is business as usual with the new hardware.bcass wrote:Given that the next generational leap will probably be the least significant technical leap in console history, especially where the layman is concerned, that huge back catalogue can continue to be sold on the new hardware.
None of what you have stated is an argument for supporting the old hardware. Supporting one hardware platform is cheaper than supporting two - and every dollar that goes into supporting the old hardware cannot be spent on the new platform which has the greater earning potential. And Microsoft can easily silence any criticism for dropping 360 Xbox Live support by giving away the new hardware for free - provided you commit to 3 years of the Premier XBox Live subscription (wireless telecommunications services have been doing it for years).bcass wrote:This is so glaringly obvious it's pretty surprising that it has to be spelt out.

Non of this precludes anything I said in my post. Whether they sell you all the old games or rent them to you, there's still an advantage to be gained by them keeping the old software available. Just like there's an advantage to netflix offering loads of old content. Look at the regular sales on Steam, they result in frequent sales boosts for old software. The market's there for the old stuff. There are new people coming into gaming all the time and there's plenty of existing gamers who might be persuaded to fill gaps in their collections.HydrogLox wrote:The Gold subs have always just been the thin edge of the wedge. There's every need to support the old hardware because it allows them to keep selling/renting the old software. The old software which will be pretty indistinguishable, quality wise, from the new software.HydrogLox wrote:So there is no need to support the old hardware because it is business as usual with the new hardware.
You're just being silly and belligerent now. Microsoft will continue to sell the 360 in various guises as a digital content consumer device. Apple has changed the market forever, people now rightly expect to be able to carry over digital purchases to each new device. Failure to observe this important facet of digital distribution will harm your product. This is the main reason why both new consoles are for all intents and purposes glorified PCs. They want to standardise the hardware so things like BC will be easier and cheaper to implement from this gen onwards.HydrogLox wrote:None of what you have stated is an argument for supporting the old hardware.

Been away from the forums for a while and I apologize if this has been answered recently/repeatedly/etc. What all comes in the LE?
I'm assuming the SLE is sold out everywhere and am just going to try and leave it at that so I can save myself a hundred dollars or whatever the price difference is. If the LE just comes with an arrange soundtrack I may consider just grabbing the base version for once.
