make believe - of course
Scrumtrillescent, never quite goes in the direction I'm expecting. Someone on Amazon said 'Melodic yet dissonant at the same time' which is, weirdly enough, pretty accurate, no?

Brakesbrakesbrakes - Beatific Visions

more douchebag powerpop. I like this album but the 'edgy' political statements are pretty hilarious. Evolution happens and the world needs love, not fear. In other news: Nazis are bad, mmmkay? There's even (surprise) an antiwar rant (porcupine or pineapple), although they do that passionately enough.

Marine Girls - Beach Party

highlight is Flying Over Russia

Sugar - Copper Blue

highlight is Helpless

Mission of Burma - Vs.

highlight is 'How I Escaped My Certain Fate'

Beach Boys - Endless Summer

best greatest hits collection evar? mayhap

Thee Headcoats - two songs, I Was Weak and I Want a Punk Girl. About to listen to a few albums, in the meantime recommend your favorites of theirs?

So much music, so another post this week*

Amebix - Arise! + 2
Lost Sounds - s/t (I've mentioned this one I don't know how many times. It was also my preferred soundtrack to Armored Core 4 before the last time my 360 went tits-up. So.)
Final Solutions - Disco Eraser
Black Lips - Los Valientes Del Mundo Nuevo (live)
James Brown - Live at the Apollo (1962)
Linval Thompson - Ride on Dreadlocks (1975-1977)
DJ Wally - ...'s Genetic Flaw and Bitchley Kow Korn 7"
Automator - A Better Tomorrow EP
King Khan and His Shrines - Three Hairs and Your Mine (A lot of these tracks I can give or take, but the first two are scorchers.)
Repulsion - Horrified
Tino's Breaks vol.5 - DUB

*plus, I wanted to bump the flamewars down a notch

Just picked this one up and I feel pretty much the same way. I alos purchased recently:

The Gories "House Rockin" MadSteel hooked me up with these people and I'm still reeling. Fucking amazing proper blues/R&B based rock n roll. Beautiful.

Thee Headcoats "Headcoats Down" Kind of shocked that I'd never even heard any of the tunes on here. "Smile Now" instantly made me think of the "it made me smile" thread. Anyways, killer album just like you'd expect.

The Geto Boys s/t The original dirty south gangsters. It is hilarious to me that they got sued for the Steve Miller sample on "Gangster of Love" and switched it to a "Sweet Home Alabama" sample. This album was incredibly controversial in 1990. Not so oddly it's the only Geto Boys record worth hearing. I wish I still had my original from back in the day with Steve Miller. Rumor has it that one sells for around $500ish these days.

v/a "Messing With The Blues" Comp of Atlantic blues artists. Joe Turner, T Bone Walker, Champion Jack Dupree, Ray Charles OMFG the list goes on. This is crazy.

v/a "The Earls of Duke" 50s blues and R&B from Duke records. This comp is exclusively Bobby Bland and Junior Parker. Dave was playing this when we went into Bop Street Records and I had to have it. Amazing to say the least.

v/a "Required Ettiquette" Legendary Tacoma, Washington label that put out all the greatest of the greats. Sonics, Wailers, Bootmen, Galaxies and even Paul Bearer and his Hearsemen are present on this comp. People who understand and appreciate the real roots of punk rock would do well to pick this up.

The Fucking Eagles "A Million Dollars Worth of Music" Went to the Boss Martians show expecting some poor second string opening acts like usual. I was super stoked when I actually read the poster and found that the Fucking Eagles would be on the bill. I've been a fan of their previous incarnation, The Ronson Family Switchblade for some time but never managed to get an F'n Eagles show. Anyway, I was blown away and the Boss martians must have been wondering how they'd ever outrock the band that just got done playing. The Fucking Eagles are now my favorite Seattle band (even though they're outta Tacoma). And of course best band in Seattle means best band in the world.

@ Neon, Thee Headcoats are impossible to go wrong with. "Thee Headcoats" should read like a seal of quality. The Mighty Caesars are just as good too. Earlier bands like The Milkshakes and The Pop Rivets I don't like as much but are still worthy. Billy's current work is certainly more than acceptable but it doesn't pack the punch of Headcoats or Caesars.

And the best Beach Boys tunes are clearly "Be True To Your School" and "Don't Back Down".

Yes-Fragile(Spanish LP  )

I think I prefer Yes on vinyl than on CD, they make great background music. Nice to hear a bit of Sound Chaser's solo in Mood For A Day.

Nice. The latter helps satisfy a growing hunger for more metal. The former unexpected and interesting.

Returning to PaCrappa's latin jazz list, pulled out the classic Getz/Byrd album again (Jazz Samba). Really completely essential.

DJ Scotch Egg. It was amazing seeing him at Glastonbury. Third time I've seen hom now, and every time has been different. This time, for half of his set, he teamed up with one of the drummers from Boredoms (), the drummer from trencher, and some girl shrieking into a distorted mic. Unexpected and very welcome.

Whoah! Blast from the past! That's a big name from my teenagerhood right there. Braces, zits and 'skate or die' on the griptape. Sad thing is I can't even remember one single song right now. Damn reefer!

The only thing I can really contribute to a Jazz discussion would be this album. Required listening if only for Wes Montgomery's solo during Work Song:

Thanks much Doc. I also finally found some Don Caballero and what I've listened to so far has been class. And they have the song titles ever: "Mmmm, acting. I love me some good acting"
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
RHCP have a weird career. I only ever liked Bloodsugar and a few tunes from the surrounding albums. Nothing really from the early or late(est) periods.

Sonic Youth - Washing Machine
Thee Headcoats - Hendrix Was Not The Only Musician (has my favorite Mighty Caesars song so far, "You Make Me Die")
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks (forgot how great this album is, really lives up to the hype. Every single song is at least decent)
Weird Al - Running With Scissors

Badass song, badass art, badass green vinyl. Loan me $10 plz

Recent buys:

Manigance - Signe de Vie 2003 Remaster (Japanese edition)
Delain - Lucidity
Kamelot - Ghost Opera (Ltd. edition)
Symphony X - Paradise Lost

I haven't bought any Chinese music for a while, I might need to soon. Too much metal and not enough Asian cuteness.
