Just got the game yesterday and I played all night. The game itself is a blast. When you are actually playing the game it is enjoyable and did not give me any problems. It is my favorate 360 shmup
At least this port is better than the DoDonpachi port on the Saturn which I find to be unplayable these days.
The 360 version looks much better than the PS2 version. It may not look like it would in an arcade, but it looks as I would expect an emulated game to look on an HDTV. DDP DOJBL EX looks as good as mame games do on this TV. The reported poor image quality must depend on the setup.
However, as everyone else has mentioned that 5PornBrokers didn't do a great port. The arrange album teases you with a decent first track, but I don't like the other stages music at all. The load times are insane even after installed on the HD. When viewing the extras there is time of unresponsiveness that makes you think the xbox has locked up.
Anyone think that Piper chick is the new super cheese and her bullet canceling hyper shot looks like vomit?

As for the two hypers at the stage 1 boss... umm, don't bomb? I mean, the very first time I triggered them, I got the achievement (I was playing in Black Label).
Ahh the achievment is

If the replays are strictly recording command input, then yes, this is very possible.kemical wrote:i wouldn't be surprised...moozooh wrote:Could it be that the replay somehow uses the control scheme of the player recorded?Elixir wrote:I downloaded two different replays on the leaderboards and they both spazzed out, bombing then dying immediately.I'm still waiting on this to get here from PA..
It's X-Box green. And I think the point to her is to see how ludicrously high you can push the score (and easily unlock achievements).augustsx wrote:Anyone think that Piper chick is the new super cheese and her bullet canceling hyper shot looks like vomit?

I think he's referring to how it looks on an LCD/plasma TV. You have said yourself (IIRC) that the 360 version looks better when used with a CRT (which is no surprise to anyone).EOJ wrote:The above statement contradicts this one:agustusx wrote: The 360 version looks much better than the PS2 version.
Since the PS2 version looks exactly like the arcade.agustusx in the very next sentence wrote: It may not look like it would in an arcade,

I believe I had this problem as well.JigsawMan wrote:Does anyone play this with a VGA cable on a LCD monitor? I swear that the aspect ratio is all screwed up in tate mode, it looks really long rather than filling up the full width on the screen. I am using Dell 2107FP monitors.
I adjusted the 360s resolution to its lowest setting and overscan to 100% in the game's options.
Now the game takes up the whole screen in TATE mode.
I'm not sure which of the two things I did solved the problem. I'd experiment, but for the agonizingly long load times.

Yes, I have an RGB monitor and yes I played it in Tate mode on it. It's 480i of course, since the 360 cannot output 240p. So it's blurrier than the PS2 port, which outputs true 240p.bcass wrote:Have you tried it TATEd on a CRT (using RGB Scart)?EOJ wrote:Yes, it's better on a CRT. I believe some CRT RGB monitors support RGB and component inputs. I wouldn't expect much difference in picture quality, although the RGB output on the original Xbox was considerably poorer than the component signal. Has anyone compared the 360 component picture on a CRT with the PS2 version?EOJ wrote:RGB cable of course. My RGB CRT (Sony PVM series) doesn't have a component video input.

There isn't going to be any improvement going from RGB to component for 480i stuff. RGB is the slightly clearer signal among the two. And the X360 port is 480i and the PS2 is 240p, so you're never going to be able to get the same quality of the PS2 on a CRT.
I don't know about the Xbox, but with the 360 the RGB signal is quite nice (generally speaking, not specifically in reference to this port). About as nice as a 480i signal can be. I have a custom-made cable though.
I suppose if you use S-video or composite video then you won't be able to see much difference between the two ports, since it'll be a bit blurry with each of those anyway.

Sorry, I think you misunderstand. My point was that the actual signal quality of the RGB signal on the original Xbox was of poor quality, with the component output providing a substantially better picture (even on an SD CRT). This may or may not be the case with the 360. If, as you say, the quality of the 360s RGB picture is nowhere near as good as the PS2 RGB picture, then you might bet a better analogue signal from your 360 using a component cable (on a CRT that has component inputs).EOJ wrote:There isn't going to be any improvement going from RGB to component for 480i stuff. Have you compared it with a component cable on an SD CRT with component inputs?EOJ wrote:There's nothing wrong with the 360's RGB signal quality
Nobody is saying it will ever look as good as the PS2 version via RGB. What I'm saying is that it might be possible to get a better quality picture than what you already have.

I have a component TV here, yes. I'm not going to buy a component cable and hook my x360 up to it because I can already tell the RGB signal is quite superb. The exercise would be pointless. I've seen PS2 480i stuff on that component video TV, and compared it to the PS2 running 480i games on my RGB monitor, and it's the same quality as the X360 480i stuff on my RGB monitor. Personally I find the 480i stuff to look better on the RGB monitor than on the component input CRT, even though they are rather close.
Your results may vary depending on the quality of your equipment (CRTs, cables, etc).

Fair enough, I'm just trying to stick to facts here, and not conjecture. You might well be very satisfied with the quality of the RGB signal on your 360 (as am I, as I run my 360 through an RGB Scart/CRT) but that doesn't mean it won't look better using component. I have no drum to bang on this issue by the way, as I own the PS2 version and play via RGB. Like I say, just interested in getting at the facts, which can be difficult when some people (not necessarily you) have an agenda.EOJ wrote:I have a component TV here, yes. This port looks acceptable on an RGB monitor. I can play it and it doesn't make my eyes bleed. But it's the same quality as any of the 480i ports on the PS2 - Dragon Blaze for example. If you thought those looked fine, you'll have no qualms with this. It's just a bit hard to enjoy it fully if you have the PS2 port sitting next to you in all its 240p goodness.
I do not find this port to be acceptable on an HDTV. It's a ridiculously blocky, fugly mess.
