Not as active around here as I used to be. Didn't know that there were issues with Mushi or Deathsmiles on Steam but I was incredibly psyched to see DFK is coming with all three BL modes. Another westerner who never got a chance to play those. Should I be worried about the quality of DFK? Sure, it's not the best DDP out there, but at my stage of life (40, more a casual shmupper now), I'm not nearly as particular as you guys. :)

Here's a million-dollar DFK PC superplay--are they not even translating the text?

Indeed, strange that the panels are not translated with the various modes.

Well besides that, hope the input lag isn't bad.

Translations are only a minor annoyance for me. I'd imagine the release would be much further away if they did translations. As long as it works ok(-ish), it's all good to me :P

So how did some random low view count youtuber get a hold of this? I thought they hadn't even started the beta yet?

Yeah that's weird, unless it was set to Japanese region or there's a language setting that wasn't adjusted for some reason.

Not like it would be hard to translate considering there's already an English language release that exists

I might have to get this guy to divulge his secrets. He posts a ton of videos for games I've never been able to get review copies of.

They'll translate the text. It'd be asinine not to. But LOL oh boy where to begin.

- Has a stupid vanity intro
- Tates but doesn't fill the screen
- Picks hardest weapon
- Uses analog stick

Surprised there's no out-of-sync facecam. Degica, these are not the people you want beta-testing your product. What are you doing

Yeah the choices are really weird. Send out to some random no-name who doesn't even like the genre, but not to people here?

I'm guessing that there are a couple people in this forum that have DFK Steam. It's just that they're under a NDA and not allowed to talk about it.

IIRC, awhile back Degica mentioned that they emailed a handful of experienced DFK players about testing the port.

As for the youtuber...well....these things happen I suppose.

I think you've got the right of it, boss. At least, I hope you do!

This genre has some of the most passionate, obsessive, intelligent, and critical fans I have ever seen. It would be nice if these same fans were more involved. If I were to hesitate on recruiting said fanbase into testing out my port of an esteemed developer's work, it would probably be a decision made out of fear: if anybody could rip it apart it would be this place, right? On the other side of the same coin, the same playtesters have an equally strong opportunity to contribute to a great release, .

I think it's on Degica to recognize their audience's values and the value of its audience.
Once the audience has a voice, it's on them to participate constructively so that both sides may profit.

I hope that Degica already has some select experts in Cave titles to test & provide feedback. If they don't, their team should be prepared to patch the game up after some sharp & vocal critique. Myself, I'm just looking forward to the release.

Considering the radio silence on Deathsmiles' slowdown (unless I've missed something) after the significantly greater amount of work they put into Mushi post-release, I'm hesitant to assume that they still think trying to please the likes of us, at least to that extent, is worth the effort.

That's the negative side of it: the thought that a developer fears exposure of the product for its imperfections, and so they do not solicit experts' critique during testing. The positive is that if they don't fear it but rather reach out to it, that source of fear is instead this well of productivity.

I understand that depending on who you ask, Degica's track record for Cave ports is fairly varied. Unless "the strong" are going to offer me a good port of DFK on their own, I understand that I need the developers the way the developers need us. I also do not want to be taken advantage of, as I'd prefer to play the game that Cave created. Previous releases notwithstanding, the pieces are still in place for subsequent releases to be nothing short of stellar. Hopefully these are shared sentiments.

That video was depressing..

No laser use, continued at least three times on the first stage. Come on, if you're going to show the game off, at least have someone who actually knows how the game plays. Even the worst players here could do a better job showing what gameplay looks like when done semi-right.

The most shocking part is that the player dies within ten seconds of starting the game. Maybe he wanted the achievement? Heh..

Another reminder that I should have gotten into doing video content years ago. There's really nothing out there for people who write about games.

Dammit. Now I'm feeling a little down.

Response on Degica twitter today was that they have not yet done application for beta testing of DFK. If players here were quiet due to an NDA I would believe the youtubers would be under that same NDA. Hopefully some experienced players are getting contacted or will be able to assist via whatever the beta testing applications amount to.

We've been doing internal testing with high-level Japanese players so far, mostly because they can interact directly with Cave staff which is a more efficient process than having to have all beta comments translated. We're still going to do some international beta testing soon, though.

Everything in the game WILL be translated, it just isn't 100% finished yet.

Also, a few other things I'm going to address that has been said in the thread, but I'm getting confirmations from our Cave contact. Just want to make sure that you guys know I'm paying attention.

Are there any videos online that show the slowdown differences between the Steam port and other versions of Deathsmiles?
