DrTrouserPlank wrote:Frankly though, I had the stages memorised a while back but it wasn't enough. I know/knew this game upside down and back to front because I've wasted so much time trying to beat it and ultimately the realisation I've come to is that knowing the stages isn't enough. Even with a memorised route you still get hit, or accidentally do something wrong and it doesn't have to happen that many times for it to screw you. Mistakes happen. I don't accept that other people don't make them because it's BS. We're talking about the tiniest margins here.

I play it now, and not knowing it as well as I did only makes realise just how utterly ridiculous what you are trying to do is. I know that 99.999% of people wouldn't have stuck it for as long as I did, so how any number of people managed to clear it is beyond me.

Everyone is pretty quick to berate me with stupid comments when I post, but no-one as yet has come up with the answer as to why I can't clear it (when I'm clearly doing the same things as everyone else). The only difference is the result. There's no question in my mind that I've got a lot more knowledge and have memorised the game to a far greater extent than most people. As I say, all but the saddest closet-dwelling hermits would have given up long before I have in the absence of a breakthough, so evidently that in itself isn't enough.

But this all boils down to the same thing as usual really, I don't know why I'm still typing this...... playing it leads to keyboard fury... gonna stop now. :\
My advice is to take things slowly and don't try to rush towards a clear. I know you've spent a lot of time with it already, but if you're coming off a long break it'll take some practice to become familiar with the game again. Just try to make a small improvement in each session, ie NMNB the first two stages, or NM the third stage/boss, things like that. Don't worry about the clear, it'll come in time. Enjoy the game and take something positive away each time you play. Trust me, providing you think about what you're doing (which it sounds like you do since you say you know the game well), you will always be improving the more you play, even if it doesn't always feel like it. The most important thing is to not get frustrated.

Maybe try setting yourself an achievable goal, something like: I'll play for an hour a day and try to reach Larsa on one credit by the end of June. Even if you don't manage it (I think you will since you've done it before IIRC), I guarantee you will be more comfortable with the game by that time and much closer to your overall goal of a clear.

Dude. That sucks. I can't imagine how low the odds are of you getting a double kill like that.

At least you know you can get to Gigafacer and put up with his bullshit. How many lives did you reach Gigafacer with?

You received the answer several times but you're too stubborn to accept it. Sit down, practice what you know, be sure that your plan on how to clear the game is not based on luck, stop getting angry, and possibly stop posting the same post over and over again. You won't follow any of this advice, though, so next time you get upset you need to keep in mind this: it's your doing, not everyone else's. Though luck.

That's pretty good work man, EVERYONE gets bummed out of some lives by Gigafacer! Of course he's all the more fun once rank climbs up past 7x or 8x :)

For the squid's attack in the second form where it raises its arms and fires a series of purple aimed shots followed by the wide spread of large purple bullets, the aimed shots are basically dodging while navigating the gaps through the pink spreads. If you get under the left or right edge of its body (about where it was holding the arm) when it starts firing, the shots should make a decent size opening if you move towards the squid's center.

Easiest method I found for the St3 boss was to sit in the center of the screen and just tap dodge towards the tick just before a bullet's about to hit. Pretty simple actually. You only need two tap dodges to avoid the first set of the pattern - one as the 5 spread reaches you (first one is a 4 spread with a gap aimed at you, late enough and you'll avoid the 6 and 7 entirely) and one just as the first 3 fan appears, late enough and it'll avoid the 4 and 5 way fans entirely. Then, as the tick moves to the other side of the screen, do the same thing. Make tiny tap dodges just before a bullet's about to hit (you only need like two to get through the tighter repetition of the spreads). The last fan attacks might curve a bit and look like a threatening wall with how the tick moves as it fires, but as long as you're looking ahead and learn to read which side the gaps form you can tap dodge through the gaps with this too. It's the only portion where should screw up if you misread how the bullets travel, and that's just a matter of practice.

Getting squashed by a falling bit of debris while taking a sip of your drink just after nailing gradius gaiden stage 2 boss. Lol it makes you do a crazy scramble to save yourself which either results in suiciding your self straight into a different piece of debris than the one heading for you or drowning yourself in beer :)

DTP, post up a replay for us. I don't care if you have to use a cell phone camera to capture it (my iphone can actually do a half decent job in a pinch), just show us something. Legitimately curious to see you play, no irony or insult intended whatsoever. It could also lead to more direct and specific advice.

I don't have any recording equipment so I can't upload any footage.

Don't suppose the replays are stored as separate files and can be shared can they?

Not so much of a "shmup" grievance as a "being sick and running a fever sucks" grievance, but after calling in sick today, I figured I'd try to play a few rounds of Batrider, but I could hardly focus on the game over my fever, and kept dying in retarded ways :(

Not sure, just look in the system menus and see if they're separate files. That'd be pretty cool actually. You don't have a cell phone or camera you could set up and just record the screen with? It wouldn't be the best but it would be good enough to get an idea of what's going on.

How the hell is it that you have enough money to import every single CAVE 360 game from Japan but you can't be assed to buy a cheap video camera?

I can afford to buy the games because I don't waste my money buying things I don't need.... like video cameras.

Speaking of grievances, I'm just gonna come right out and say it.

Ketsui is too hard. There. I said it. I find it frustrating to the point that it's not worth playinv

Well how far can you get, survival wise? If your getting to stage 4 or more I don't see the issue.

And if it is a bit of a brick wall, then consider X Mode, that is if you have the port.

I don't have the port.

I don't get to stage 4, my runs tend to end on stage 3, which is, in my opinion where the difficulty starts to go through the ceiling.

I literally have more fun playing Futari Ultra than Ketsui

do you actually try to point blank everything you can? It's really more easy if you destroy everything quickly with the lock shots and to do that you must memorize enemy positioning and pointblank acordingly.

Be daring, you have to be extremely agressive to beat this game.
