I used to work there for many years on and off, since early 90's. Got some good friends there still though.

The world bosses have danmaku influence simply because the lead coder is a huge Cave fan.
Nex has HDR support and full HD resolution for Playstation Pro, while non-pro PS4 version has something like 900p resolution. This is because consistent 60fps was considerent more important - a smart move, in my opinion.
Thank god; 30fps ruined alienation.

Neat. I hear what you're saying about the games being finished around the same time, but wouldn't delaying one to find a more favorable release window be a logical move?

Can't speak to this as I passed on Alienation, but hell yeah they get props for going to 900p - even on the system that has held 1080p over the Xbox for the whole generation. Framerate over all. It was obvious to me from the beginning of the gen, with the level of power (or not) these systems shipped with, that even holding at 720p would have been a better compromise in the name of performance.

I think it took me 40 credits to kill the last boss on Experienced. When I died trying to get the sub weapon I would just kill myself because I didn't think I could beat the boss using the level 1 shot. That was probably a design mistake for impatient players like myself since it doesn't really gain anything. I finally had to slow down and approach the initial part carefully. Meh.

Yeah, the "loose power up on death" aspect has been often criticized, but the developpers did keep it. If you're carefull enough, it is really doable to recover form a death, just dont rush.
Also, this game is a shooter, please don't continue.

$11.99 on North American PSN if you have PS+.

Picked it up and it's fantastic. It's exhilarating dodging and dashing though all the bullets and enemies to save a human at the very last moment. Very good 80's style music to accompany the addictive gameplay.

Yes, the game is great. Really good improvement on the twin stick shooter genre. Now that price has a significant reduction for PS+, hope it gets more sale.

I've really been enjoying this a bunch, but I have a question. I tend to stop after I run out of lives, I've made it to level 5/experienced on one credit. Is it reasonable to just keep doing that on one credit, or am I going to have to accept using a bunch of credits to finish the last 2 levels.

Game is totally 1CC-able. You can use the level select to train on some stages. Can also credit feed up to the if you want to see it once.

Just keep doing what you're doing, you'll get your 1cc and game-long human chain in no time.
Learning the new enemy behaviours in each world doesn't take long, you're already at world 5, just one more to go, you're nearly there.

Yeah I don't know why I was worried aha. I just saw some comments about the level 5 boss, but when I got there I didn't need a credit. Now on the final boss, and I think I'll get it today.

With the way NM handles continues, it's pretty clearly urging you to 1CC; recovering after using a credit can suck real bad and if you don't recover all your upgrades it's a ridiculous uphill battle. 1CC or bust.

EDIT: Got the 1CC. Nex Machina is one of the best games I've played this year.

Truly it is. Lots of action, precise gameplay and controls, risk and reward scoring system. Apart from, maybe, some forgivable design flaw, game is really good and should be enjoyed by any shooter fan.

Great news, thanks for pointing that out.
If I understand LRG correctly, I just have to be connected at the exact time the sale starts, push the buy button, and pray ? Or do I need to suscribe somewhere first ?

  • Create an account with LRG well ahead of the time (supplying billing and shipping addresses). Before 10:00 (or 18:00) (Eastern time zone (UTC-05:00) on the day of the sale login ahead of time. If you intend to purchase multiple products open a separate tab for each (to avoid having to navigate as you add products to the shopping cart). Regularly refresh to prevent an auto logout.
  • In yet another tab on the browser log into your account on the PayPal website before the sale starts. (Make sure all your credit card information is up to date and ready to go). Again refresh this connection regularly - I think PayPal logs you out after 2 minutes of inactivity. Having your Paypal Account open tends to speed along the checkout process reducing the possibility of your products being removed from your shopping cart due to "loitering".
  • Each product will have a countdown - on occasion products have become available slightly ahead of time (so keep refreshing).
  • Add products to your cart as soon as they become available - keeping limitations in mind (#of copies per customer). Checkout and pay as quickly as possible.
The above is preparation for the worst case scenario (some batches have only lasted 2 minutes or less) which may not come to pass - for example Dariusburst CS Vita took all weekend to sell out. Expect 3000/2000 to go on sale at 10:00 and the remaining 1500/1000 to be available at 18:00. 3000 for the collectors edition is a bit surprising - typically they only have 1000-1500. Housemarque expressed disappointment at the sales of Nex Machina so far - so it may not sell as quickly. But typically PS4 arcade shooters move fairly briskly at LRG - somehow they even managed to sell Caladrius relatively quickly.

I've ordered plenty of things from LRG and I've honestly never had any trouble getting them.
Sure, if you wait 10 minutes or so there might be a risk it'll be sold out if it turns out to be a really popular item. But if you hang around and just put stuff in the basket as soon as it's available, I'm sure you'll get it.

Yeah I've never had a problem getting something there although don't expect smooth sailing even once your order is through, they use the absolute worst shipping service I've ever experienced, just look at the complaints on their forums. If you're not in the US then you can expect to wait a long time even though you're paying a premium price in shipping. They're also very good at shifting the blame to other companies when things do go bad ie "Sony did this, our shipping company did that".

Actually, my experience is that shipping from LRG is always smooth sailing. It usually takes a while for it to get here, but that's almost always the case from the US. They also repackage in Europe and cover the customs so there is no risks of getting huge fees added to your order. That's really a huge service, that I think is really amazing of them. I returned my Ys Origin from Play-Asia because I had to pay a huge custom fee, so I'm glad I ordered one from LRG as well.

I'm sure there's a lot of people that have had a good experience but given the posts in their forum there are also a lot of people having issues, myself included. I've never received an order from LRG less than a month after ordering which is not common for me when ordering from the US. Vblank is one dude and he managed to ship Guacamelee in like 2 weeks. It's cool you got your Ys but mine hasn't even shipped yet despite the store page saying it would by "late September or early October", October is almost over. Paying customs for Europeans is great for Europeans but not so much for non Euro international customers. Australia doesn't have import fees so I'm paying a premium for something I don't need. I also have a problem with them putting the full description on the shipping box.

I like what LRG do and will still buy games from them that I like including Nex but there is no doubt they could do a lot of things better and their arrogant attitude towards criticism can be a pretty big turn off at times.

Hum, pretty scary discussion about LRG shipping here. Anyone tried their "holding orders" method https://limitedrungames.com/pages/holding-orders ?
I plan on doing just that.

Basically shipping is not fast.
  • It takes some time before the order ships. 2 weeks isn’t surprising, it could take 3 weeks during “convention season”. They recommend that you wait 10 business days before filing a ticket - no earlier but once that deadline is reached they want to know about it - just in case.
  • Once is does ship it still takes its time (2-3 weeks).
So I’ve had anywhere between 3-6 weeks and it is less than a ~900km (surface) away (for US$15 shipping). As long as it eventually arrives I'm not complaining.
