That Deathsmiles and Akai Katana in your 'Region locked with alternate region release' section are in fact, aside from the original JPN release, US and PAL (separate releases for each region). :)

But I'm on about 3 hours sleep, so can't quite tell if I'm reading that right, or writing right!

Don't remember very well but in the DLC cd of the first collection are included all the dlc's that appeared?? Patches aside, I mean Futari 1.01, Voices for Akai Katana, DS Megablacklabel, Futari Boack label and so on.

For the record, I was able to pre-order yesterday and then almost immediately after they stopped taking them. Not clear if they are being cautious or sold through their allotment. Not thrilled about the price. I REALLY hope I can find it for less elsewhere.

Play-Asia tends to be among the most expensive import stores out there but holy shit that's some insane markup. For me it would be almost 200 C$ only for shipping and handling. Sadly, it seems no other store has even listed the collection on the system. Does anyone have experiences with Tenso? How are those guys?

There was a time when it wasn't that expensive but since liksang went out off bussiness, it started to grow and became expensier till now wich are gone mad. Even yesasia looks cheap to me.
I really miss lik-sang, if I remember well they closed cause Sony or another big company force them to close doors.

If you bought those games/dvds individually, it would cost MUCH more, right? Still, as a long-time patron of P-A, I'm annoyed to hear that they're charging significantly more than the msrp.

It was Sony, it had something to do with Lik-sang selling import PSPs IIRC

I guess in the end you're not missing out on too much, outside of [the apparently awesome*] Mushi HD.

It's amazing, one of the absolute best of Cave's 360 games imo. It's worth just going ahead and buying a J360 for; it's that good.

Over the years, sure! But there's a huge difference in production quality, and those games today would probably cost a lot less bought individually (with the soundtracks included in the LEs, and artbooks with the relevant Superplays.)

The collection always was a 'budget' box though: I respect Cave for not making any bones about that - it's more the markup that's horrific.

That said, no images of this collection revision yet. I assume the packaging will be the same, but I'd really love for them to make it something genuinely special. I think I mentioned last time that when I imagine an ultimate collection, I'm thinking a light wood box with a metal clasp, distinctly Japanese, with the same calligraphy on the front and an open up lid. Inside they could have a few unique trinkets and place everything into designated wooden slots - perhaps include a special DVD behind the scenes, touring the Cave office and interviewing various people about their favourite moments in development.

In-fact there are so many ways to make even me break out the plastic for such a thing, I'm surprised the product itself is so uninspiring - but I just assume that they have no money, time, or care.

Yup I remember now, you know for the gamers. The fucked a nice web shop with really fair prices.

Going back on topic, I was wondering now that 5PB has lost rights to Ketsui and DOJ, why Cave hasn't bought the rights back and reach an agreement with 5PB so they could do the real collection for Xbox 360 including also DoJ and ketsui.
Who knows but in any case I'd rather take an Ibara Kuro's port.

Pipe dreams. To release DOJ and Ketsui as part of the set they would need to create new ports from the ground up, with new menus, features etc. The only alternative would be to buy the rights from 5pb to their finished ports, and I really doubt that's going to happen. With little spare capital as it is, putting resources into re-porting two games that have already finished their market distribution for the sake of completion is outside the realms of possibility, meaning the collection will have to go without the two best titles.

But the collection on PS4/Xbox One? They could do the entire thing for that, ultimate catalogue, all on disc, including Kuro and Guwange, with relevant DLC embedded as options within the games.

Now this is something that would be worth complaining about. As it is, this collection consists of games and superplay DVDs that have been widely available for years. Anybody who already owns all of that stuff has absolutely no reason to buy it. But if Cave were to put some exclusive material into the package (such as a behind the scenes DVD), that would be an attempt at milking their fans because they'd have no choice but to spend hundreds of dollars rebuying games and DVDs they already own just to get this one extra thing. No thanks.

Fair point, but I'm really not sure. I see it from the other side of the coin: they know their fanbase will buy it regardless of the effort they put in, so rather than doing something genuinely appealing they've been lazy beyond belief, thrown it all in a flat pack box, and still managed to sell through pre-orders.

Twice.

CAVE's business strategy is a hard one to follow, there probably is none and they make it up as they go .
The first Shooting collection was a very small print run that sold out immediately and left a lot of people empty handed or at the will of the scalpers .
This time they make it even harder to get as only one box per buyer permitted

OTOH they release a SDOJ Super limited edition  people dived on like hawks in fear of missing out but they produced so many that it's still widely available now .

Interesting. I was thinking of this less as a budget means of getting the games and more as a Cave fan/collector item and an expensive one at that. So if I have all the games and don't care so much about superplays, I should pass on this. If it included all the soundtracks, that might change things.

The original box was availavle on amazon for preorder for many, many months at amazon. Plenty of opportunities to secure one.

So, I didn't pay a ton of attention to the set the first time around, but I kinda want that DLC disc. Does it include all of the DLC released for the games, including the first print bonuses? Because the games I still need to get first print editions of would actually be more expensive than just buying this set... and having all the DLC on a disc would be all the better.

Edit: Oh, and was Guwange included on that DLC disc, or did they just give you a download code?

For shipping purposes, does anyone how much the box weights? Can anyone who owns the first print give me a ballpark number please?

All the first print bonuses...everything including gamertags, etc. Disc does not have the many minor updates...still need to download those.

Guwange is a download code/voucher.

Well, there is one caveat, I think. Some folks have said that the DLC disc is only good for the actual printed discs that come with the set. In other words it does not work with the other original discs. I've not been able to test that, though. Ultimately not a big deal if true. Maybe somebody here can further clarify.

It is a good deal for all the content...$300-ish. Easy to just grab it now. If you decide not to need it you should be able to get what you paid back.

I can confirm that the DLC works with the regular discs. You can transfer the DLC from the disc to a USB stick to install it as well.
