People were shocked at the port quality before it was even released? Wow. 5PB deserve a thorough thrashing for not getting it absolutely perfect while it was still in development. Heaven knows how they can sleep at night.

Or do you mean they were shocked at the port quality when it was eventually released? If that's so, can you link to those opinions please? Everything I've read seems to indicate that it was a sterling port.

Ever since playing the Ketsui port, I've been ridiculously close to buying a Jap X360 for that game alone. Enough said.

You completely misunderstood what he said.

People were shocked that the port was so good after Mihara spent ages shit-talking it on his blog during its development.

So, according to brentsg, people who had been reading Mihara's blog were shocked that it was a good port, even though Mihara said himself before it was released that it was of comparable quality to the (excellent) Futari port? Whatever.

Yes, based on his comments about the quality of the game.

It's all hearsay for me. I have precious little time to spend translating some Japanese guys blog about a forthcoming video game - that's super nerdy. If the game comes out and it's shit, I don't buy it.

If I recall, Mihara said something to the effect of "It's about the same quality as Ketsui Death Label, except these guys are actually trying to port Ketsui, wwwwwwww".

So it's 100% this game will be forced wide screen?

Is there any reason they can't just put both options in game? Or is that just too much work? You just have 2 different modes of gameplay. 360 mode and arcade mode etc.
Espgaluda III needs to happen.

I believe an Arcade mode is visible in the screenshots of the main menu. This is in addition to the "Shin" mode which is the 16:9 version.

Yes, the menu screenshot shows 4 modes on top, Shin and Arcade and score attack for each. Arcade mode potentially will be 4:3, I guess.

Man I wish they just had a option in their ports to choose between 16:9 or 4:3 this is turning out rather annoying

Oh I want to play this other mode oh well it looks like ass because its 16:9 on my 4:3...

Yeah it is definitely a low blow to not have the screen customizable options that we want. I may just pull my TV off the wall for this and turn it on its side like I've done in the past.

An malleable expandable hole that will stick to any surface. If you throw it flat against a wall a battleship will come through it.

First print DLC will cause gold to circle you while you play. Prob just little ones for Americans though, with the exchange rate and all.

So yeah, news.

http://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000 ... 01290.html

There's going to be a special box for the LE drawn by Mushimaro Tachikawa, and the Limited Edition comes with a CD covering Shin, so it's different to the OST, again.

Oh, and all copies will include the voice pack DLC.

Amazon.jp has both versions up for those within Japan. Slightly cheaper than Amiami, but using a service to purchase from Amazon.jp would bring the price slightly above.

LE: http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B004 ... B004RKWZ2U
SE: http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B004 ... B004RKWZDE

I won't add it to the OP, but I thought I'd mention it as it was sold out within an hour of first appearing there.

You use these guys right Dan76? A good service?

Moving on to AK Shin possibly being a mix of the scoring from the arcade and 'consumer' releases, am I right there were two versions of the PCB release, one aimed at the home-PCB market? Forgive my ignorance on this matter, but did the two different PCB versions have significant gameplay differences?

Since PlayAsia screwed me on Futari I've used videogameimports for the Cave releases. They're a bit more expensive but I've always received my order on, or the day after the offical Japanse release date. I can't recommend them enough. If you're in Europe it's the way to go.

With Akai Katana from what I can gather there was the original arcade release which had a ton of slowdown (because of the way gold circled around your ship???) and scorers in Japan quickly got bored with. Then there was the home PCB which had less slowdown, a tweaked scoring system (I think you can slow the bullets with your option) and an extra "harder" mode.

I'm hoping the arcade mode we get in the port is the original release (with the slowdown - as I love me some slowdown), and I guess Shin is a further tweaking of the home PCB with an extra level.

Can't wait.

What! In all the ads I've seen for Castle I've never seen this chick before.

Don't tell me Australia fails to get the hot chickity Full Extent Of The Jam from TV shows too? :(
