Our most intelligent tactic is calling out when we're going to take a powerup to stop other people missing it* and JDE is the only one who knows how to use the laser properly.

*this doesn't actually stop other people missing it

Aside from the extra button to flip the ship around, I'm assuming the Shot and Laser mechanics are the same as the PSP version?

Shot fires foth shot and missile attacks, Burst (and Counter) Laser can be used by holding the Laser button, while double-tapping the Laser button deploys the Drop Laser which sits in place, and changes firing angle when you stop firing (and locks angle when you fire)? In the PSP version, using the Drop Laser to block bullets and destroy smaller enemies was a good tactic, as the Drop Laser could keep itself charged this way, and it was a good way to boost the multiplier as well.

The only point to remember is that each ship has a different way of controlling the Drop Laser when you stopped firing - the standard ship pushed the laser away from it when you moved, while the Next type ship would call the laser to fire at its location. I actually found Next type easier to use in the PSP version for this reason.

So I suppose this is the hardest boss in the game? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc-HzPT06o8#t=7m14s

Game looks really fun, pretty jealous. :)

I fancy a go on the PSP game now, just to whet the appetite for a future go on the DB:AC cab.

Fantastic. JDE was theorising about combining angled lasers to block attacks. We've obviously got a long way to go though :D

I'm disappointed you guys didn't all sit on top of each other and fire laser at the same time, making an unstoppable laser beam of death.

It's by far and away the best way to damage bosses, and it goes through their laser beams.

I don't think the one at Casino arcade is network connected. Might just be the arcade rather than the cab, though.

This was one of the best arcade experiences I've had in the last 20 years, incredible!

Played some 1 player, 2 player and 4 player across chronicle and regular modes. It's really incredible, especially the music and the overall vibe (the seat rumbling with the boss warning is immense.)

Seriously, I could camp in Casino just to play this for a straight week.

Was going through some Taito arcade goodies I got off of YAJ and came across a non-labled DVD-R. Popped it into my DVD player and it was two promotional vids for this game :D It just repeats over and over.

Unlock A was an update that added new areas in Chronicle mode and new bosses.

Was that above and beyond the new areas and bosses that were supposed to already be added from the PSP original? And so just to clarify: Unlock A boosted Chronicle's star systems from 5 to 7 then?

As far as I know yes. The promotional stuff all says it added over 500 areas and new bosses, and a Darius wiki says Chronicle mode originally had 1347 areas and Unlock A boosted it to 2047 areas (!).

BUT - obviously those aren't actually new stages, just new areas with I guess different clear conditions, and I think all of the new bosses are old ones with different attack patterns rather than completely new bosses.

Right I see. I'm assuming then that this Update was only for original DBAC cabs and nothing to do with the DBAC: EX version that came out in July and adds the black hole bomb etc? (Cos that bomb isn't in the one in Casino I'm pretty sure.)

The Gaiden ship with the black hole bomb should be available in specific missions in Chronicle mode even on a machine with no updates, as should the ship from Darius II. They're just getting unlocked for original now.

The updates look like this:

(original with no updates)
February 16: Online update - 1.11 - bug fixes
April 14: Version up - Unlock A - new areas and bosses
May 16: Online update - 1.12 - bug fixes, mostly for Gaiden Silverhawk
July 29: Version up - AC EX Phase 1 (1.13) - New ship Assault Silverhawk, Second and Gaiden Silverhawk available in Original mode, some changes to score display, a tutorial, made it possible to unlock areas even with unlimited entry (= infinite credits, that is shit), bug fixes.
TBC: Version up - AC EX Phase 2 (1.14) - Genesis Silverhawk (from G Darius) available in Original mode, new bosses, new BGM, new "Original EX mode" which is the same stages with different enemy placements etc.

Nice work Chisus, you're wrecking that cab!

That boss on extreme looks like a complete asshole, although I was very impressed you managed to cut the burst cannon into the laser properly and power up. Are you invincible during that state?

no, you're never invincible in this game... you still need to dodge certain lasers when you're in counter burst :(

no GDarius ship at the moment... due to being the only cab in europe and translated in english, it needs to be updated via network!
ship wise there's four ships you can choose from: Next, Legend, Formula and Origin (the one without burst)... all silverhawk i believe...

Not that I know of at least. But you didn't have to mash as hard because each tap gives you a good stream of fire.
