Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but I THINK it's news...anyways, apparently that all-new 360 game they're working on, whatever it is, will likely be a worldwide release.

This could be either good or bad news for we shmuppers, methinks...guess we'll need to wait and see for sure.

More on this tomorrow according to that news snippet. Thanks for the link.

I'm not too concerned about where Cave goes next. They've already produced a lifetime's worth of blissful challenge.

Not saying I'm not interested though. :)

Guess that's the part of the deal with Aksys, unless it's XBLA game.

I'll be pissed if it's a puzzle game.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

It would be a strange/dumb move for a shmup developer to use a product not in their usual style to sell their name to a new market. Streamlined to something that westerners might enjoy without only seeing purple mush loli fest at a first glance is probably a good idea, but non-shmup first attempt at the western market?

I agree. Sell people on what you're known for and good at. No one goes to a sushi joint for the steak.

Please Cave don't make another Death Smiles 2. You can even drop the port you are still planning.

Because I'd be far more interested in something like a side scrolling action game or what I'd really like to see is a run n gun contra/gunstar style game.

Nothing against puzzle games, but they aren't anything I get excited for.

Espgaluda II's Region lock confirmed in today's interview with Asada on Siliconera. Also, he confirms that they will only be localizing games from now on. No more region free (as most of us already suspected). The good news is he hints at other markets such as Europe.:

http://www.siliconera.com/2010/02/12/ca ... expansion/

"Makota Asada: Mushihime-sama Futari was our first region-free game and we were happy enough with the response to finalize our plans for the US release of Deathsmiles. Ultimately, releasing the game region free doesn’t make as much sense to us as localizing our games and building a real fanbase overseas. That doesn’t mean that we’re only going to release games in the US of course, it really depends on interest from fans."

those ideas do sound interesting...but for me, they did such a great job with their previous puzzle games, id be excited to see more...just look at the improvements and expansions on the uo poko gameplay system they made with mushihimetama....id be very interested to see the next progression in that line

imagine...the sub-genre would be known as bubble hell

We also thought it was really effective for creating cute girl characters!
I like the way you think.
"Makota Asada: Mushihime-sama Futari was our first region-free game and we were happy enough with the response to finalize our plans for the US release of Deathsmiles. He's right, but it remains to be seen whether or not you can develop a sufficient fan base for $40-60 shooting games outside of japan to sustain releases. If you can't, then what do you do? Go back to region locking games so the small audience that does exist can't access them? While it's smart for Cave to try to expand beyond Japan, I think they've got a pretty imposing uphill battle ahead.
Feedback will set you free.

They'd better make it happen. But I hope it not to be lolita themed :?

my only concern is how it would work...cuz with a run n gun you are limited to left and right movement and ground based....it would be difficult to make bullet hell patterns that could be dodged just on the one plane without them being boring patterns

id love to be proven wrong tho :)
