Truer words have never been said on this site. I'm not sure why Milestone or Triangle Service would ever get ragged on as "stock awful company" when guys like Starfish exist.

A little off-topic but, does anybody know what Gulti is up to now? I'd be glad about this news for their next game but then I realized RFA wasn't localized by UFO anyway.

I'm almost hesitant to bring this topic back on track, but this looks kind of spiffy. Anyone have any comments on whether the OST for Raiden IV is any good? I know I liked the Raiden Fighters' soundtracks, with the cheesy-retro synths, but I don't remember much from the main Raiden games.

As if we didn't have enough trouble overcoming the elation brought on by the impending North American release of Raiden IV, Joystiq has now received news that the game will also be available in a limited edition. The limited edition will come in two flavors, one exclusive to GameStop. The vanilla, non-GameStop edition will include a bonus soundtrack CD, while the GameStop edition will include the soundtrack and a "secret file," which we're told will include "concept art, boss and enemy data, game strategies, etc."

Also, the press release notes that the game is releasing in September, rather than the previously announced August release window. We suppose one more month is a small price to pay for a spiffy limited edition.
This is very nice.

Finally seeing the genre being treated with respect in the US market brings tears of joy to my shmup-loving heart.
I think that's just play-asia speculating on price. Gamestop is still showing $39.99 and I've just checked 5 sites and no one mentioned a new price point...

How is it a secret file if they tell you what's inside it?

Also, uh, Play-Asia always have +$5 on top of the retail prices for US releases. Duh.

I'm pretty sure that was the name of the disk when it was distributed as a pre-order bonus. Wasn't it an unmarked disk, with the images for the packaging stored inside, so the customer printed it out themselves? Thus - 'secret'. I'm sure the US release won't be quite so clandestine.

Gah, why did it have to be GS that has the "secret" disc extras? Sigh, oh well **bends over...

Let's hope those region ?'s turn into green check marks for all regions. Having not picked this up for my JP 360, the thought of only paying $40 at my local Fry's Electronics is much more appealing than some ridiculous $75 + shipping from Play-Asia.

Shhhh! Don't tell anyone!

I actually didn't realize that playasia tended to do this. I've only purchased 2 orders from them, a figure that was already out of stock elsewhere and a previous order comprised of a discounted new copy of Shin Megami Nine for Xbox ($14 new iirc) and 4-Meg-Ram cart for Saturn which I bought from them because NCS wasn't sure when they'd be restocking. Otherwise I ONLY shop with NCS....which is why I had no problems getting my Deathsmiles LE and Arcade Stick when people were getting cancelled on by Playasia.

Now that I pause and take note...does that sticker on the right say "Gamestop Exclusive"? Please tell me that's a stiker on the outside shrinkwrap and not printed on the case. Otherwise I will have to pass on this...

Any word if the JP DLC will make it over here?

I actually have this pre-ordered and am getting excited. One of two pre-orders...along with the local Gamestop manager.

EDIT: Nevermind. The Gamestop video shows the fairy and original ship.

Just an FYI, some of the news sites initially reported that the Gamestop edition will come with a third disc, but this is not correct. The only extra included with the Gamestop version will be a link to an external website that has a PDF of the digital artbook "secret file". Given past practice, I'm sure the PDF will be readily available a day or two after release, so if you hate Gamestop, there is no reason to order from them.

Yesterday dated 7/28/2009, NCSX site is now officially accepting pre-orders for the upcoming XBox 360 Limited Edition version of Raiden IV...it will even come with a limited edition Raiden IV OST as well -- hence the MSRP of $39.99 USD instead of the usual budget pricing. ^_~

Here's the link to what it looks like with the backside packaging layout: http://www.ncsx.com/2009/072709/raiden_ ... dition.htm

September 8th, 2009 is the official debut release of Raiden IV for the North American XBox 360 market.

the music in Raiden IV is great in my opinion, it features some tracks from the original games revisited nicely... and the music from the original games was already catchy enough and awesome (imo)

Yeah - If you're a fan of the series and it's audio overall - you'll definitely like this...

Gonna have to get me a couple of these. How many here have more than 1 copy of Raiden Fighters already? Might be a pretty saught after game in few years. In 98 I bought 3 copies of The Raiden Project at K&B TOYS for 9.99. and 7 years later I sold 2 of them (still sealed) for $60 a piece on ebay!

Buy three copies. One for an ornament, one to play, and one as a backup or to sell later. Japanese otaku do it and so can you.

People used to do this when I worked in a comic shop. Crazy, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

I recall heading down to my local Kaybee Toys store when they had both PSX game titles of "In the Hunt" & "Raiden Project" brand new for $19.99 USD back in October of 1997. I bought Raiden Project right away and was glad to have gotten it at that price. I missed out on the In the Hunt game though. I did manage to find a used copy of PSX In the Hunt (just the game disc itself) at my local Gamestop store for a mere $3.00. It was one of those rare and uncommon PSX titles to find, especially at a GS of all places. ^_~

Or you can wait until you get old like me and do it on accident. Couple times I bought a game I'd been thinking about for a while... when I stuck it on my shelf there was already a copy there...

Yup same here! I actually found a copy of Raiden Project around 4/5 years ago at Funco Land for $3.99 (no case light scratches) right before they changed their name to gamestop. Thats the copy I play I don't touch my original mint copy or my sealed new copy.

Gamestop is still listing this for 9/3 while Amazon has 10/13 so maybe it'll be a very weird release again (Gamestop/EB Games exclusive for five weeks?)

I found a long box copy of it at a flea market for $7. Intact, complete, and barely a mark on the disc. I already had a copy from Funcoland that I picked up a number of years prior (scuffed, no box), but needless to say, I grabbed that complete copy in a heartbeat.

Hell yeah! I love it when you can find deals on classic games. My best Flea market deal which was only 3 years ago was a lady selling genesis games 3 for $10 and low and behold she has a pretty decent copy of M.U.S.H.A and Air Buster along with a bunch of crap sports games on her table. Man was I happy! :D
