Scans are online btw. Go to gamefront.de. They also mention that Cave themselves are involved in it, enhancing the visuals.

Why is everyone dead set that they will need to buy a JP 360?

If Cave/5PB have any sense, they'll just make it region-free since there is almost no chance that anybody will publish it in US/EUR. They'd only sell more.

Region locking has traditionally been done by the publishers. And just about every single japanese 360 game is region locked.

In other words, outlook grim.

true, true. hope your right and that it will be region free. and like i said earlier, cave decided to make the muchi muchi pork superplay that ships with the ost region free (opposed the espgaldua II dvd-set). so maybe they recognized that have an international audience and are now willing to cater to their needs. hope so.

Are you kidding? It looks absolutely terrible. The reason for this is that they used some awful 2XSaI like filter.
Confirmed. XBLA MS3 makes the game look like the graphics have been put through a blender. There's almost no definition at all. Everything is a rough, blurry mess.

Also, Mihara should just release the PS2 port of Ketsui out of spite. ;)

That is a good question. I should plug it into my SVGA monitor and see.

OT

I wonder If I could hack some hori Xbox 360 sticks rigged to a Ps1 controller board running to my Ps2 Jamma Adapter and run the Video From the 360 VGA to my Blast City Nanao Tri Sync monitor.

Oh the Possibilities.

Not as bad as it does on a HD set (I tried on a 32" Panasonic CRT).

Folk translating those scans on the CAVE-STG forums are saying that these games will have 2 graphics modes - enhanced and original.

I'd say those 'worldwide rankings' details are a pretty good sign of a worldwide release, although I'm surprised these titles aren't XBLA as that distribution method would be perfect for such a small company (although it's entirely possible that the games will be released on discs in Japan and on XBLA elsewhere).

Since Cave is notorious for putting extra modes and goodies into their games, I think XBLA wouldn't be ideal for them 1.) because of the size restriction and 2.) no pack-in goodies/superplay DVDs.

It's not usually Cave who put those extras in though is it? It's been whoever did the ports/publishing.

So maybe all (ok, most of them) problem will be fixed by 480i/p mode and CRT tv D:

The more you think about it, the more obvious it seems to me that these will be released internatinally. It's the only reason why they're being ported to the 360 IMO. The 360 is outselling the PS3 internationally. It's only in Japan that the PS3 is selling more than the 360. If you were going to release a game only in Japan, it would appear to be commercial suicide for such a small company to limit itself to just the Japanese 360 user-base.

Size restrictions shouldn't be a big issue for shmups.

Unless they start coming with hours of pre-rendered full motion video or hours of voice acting.

The XBLA limit is 150MB, but it's not set in stone, IIRC. Most Cave games would probably fit on a 600MB CD, with the vast majority of that being streamed audio. Compress the audio at something like 128kbps and you'd probably get it all in less than 250MB.

Yeah, Mushi is ~150mb in PS2 version.

Actually, Ketsui uses MOD Tracker format for it's music, so you'd probably be talking well under 150MB, even uncompressed.

I wonder if Doj's or Ketsui's almost-finished sources are being started from/used in any way... Hell, maybe they're sort of emulating the ps2 but with more memory

There are tools to hook up your consoles to your monitors, but you still have the resolution issue in this case. In fact, for this game, it's unclear whether TATE supported, so it will be extra turdy.

The other side of the argument is that an XBLA release would GUARANTEE a US release (and only be $10).

Still, let's hope for the best either way.

I think Mushihimesama is a good example of what can happen. The filtering killed the port for pixel whores and (maybe I'm mistaken that this is the reason, but...) as a result the PCB is way more than the likes of DOJ and Espgaluda, which recieved perfect pixel treatment.
iatneH wrote:Can we bitch about filtering and resolution yet?
YES!! :D

neorichieb1971 wrote:The resolution problem must be addressed though, lets hope Arika is on board.
The only way to approach it is a fake scanlines option. Even then, it won't be as good as an arcade monitor, but better than no filter at all.
Why not display it in 720p, double scaled, and borders around the edges?
Thunder Force wrote:I wonder what the Microsoft replacement policy is for japanese model 360s that Red Ring Of Death outside their homeland...
Find a local repair guy. There's one here in the 'nix that will fix the ROD problem for like $40. Doubtfully a region specific problem if the symptoms are the same.
