I think I'm going to finish reading the rest of it after I've played the game. I don't want to spoil myself too much.
Cool stuff, nice to see how a commercial DS game is made. Looking forward to playing the game, since the DS definitely needs more shmups. I hope it sells well, for the future of portable shmups
theres no such thing as perfection (AKA bug free) in software development
Bug-free is mathematically possible, and it happens quite often in smaller programs.
Bug-free in less likely as software gets more complicated, but a reasonable effort should still be made to catch the more frequent and troublesome bugs.
Regarding Nanostray 2, it was finished in the summer, but it is possible that Majesco had a QA team testing the game before sending it to manufacturing. Perhaps that team did find some bugs which delayed it.

Exactly. Publishers don't postpone releases just for the sake of it.

or thats what they make everyone believe... since its not the case always.
Some of their complaints seem perfectly reasonable. Pretty generic shooter, it seems. I'm past the stage where I need to play and collect every shooter that comes out. I'll likely pass on this unless I see it for dirt cheap.

Generic seems to be to be a pretty common trait when it comes to shmups developed by Shin'en. The DS is starved for shooters though so I will probably pick it up if I see it for twenty bucks.

They also criticize it for having a "ridiculous continue system". Lots of shooters are generic, but that doesn't change the fact that they are good (Raiden DX).

EDIT: May or may not be true, but GameFAQs has it listed for February 26 now. This is getting ridiculous.
no doubt... i really hate it when they toy with us like that... the release story of this game reminds me the release story of Metal Slug Anthology for the PSP... delayed SO MANY times (for about 15 months or so), and ended up being a half assed compilation... i kinda preffer to play them on the already awesome neogeo emulator for the PSP than from the official compilation (if it wasnt because the addition of MS6 on it, i wouldnt play the official one).
i really, REALLY hope this one doesnt suffer the same fate... i've faith in Shin'en, but majesco its gettin on my nerves.
btw, where's that "majesco share holder" that i happened to read in this forum a few months ago?... i'd like to "hear" from him what the hell its goin on (...)
I find it hard to believe a single person here gives a fuck what EGM says about a shmup. I couldn't care less if it's generic. Is it a solid shooter? That's what I care about.

I'm somewhat involved with games journalism (call it a part-time hobby), and its not really all that surprising for a DS game. Handheld games in general are taken far less seriously by publishers than other high profile consoles. The only handheld games that ever meet street dates are games from incredibly large publishers like Square Enix.
And honestly, if the game is being delayed, its due to publisher problems at this point, not because of the developer. The game should have been Gold a month ago by now.

Whatever the reason, it has been confirmed that Nanostray 2 is finished. QA testing is not likely the reason for the delay. There are even cases of unfinished games or localized games with features removed being delayed with no fixes at all. Project Justice DC and Street Fighter Alpha GBC are good examples of this. Game stores (especially GameStop) have been picky about lesser known properties and cheaper games lately too. This shipping problem could stem from the supplier too.
pretty much absurd... i just cant believe what they're doin with the title... looks like they have no faith in it or whatever, cuz.--- c'mon!, its been delayed quite some times now, and the game went gold about 5 months ago...
dont know, but i feel RIDICULOUSLY low sale rates for this game already.
well done majesco, you have ruined the unruinable.

OH GOD THE WAIT. Did anyone read something about an euro release? The only source I care to look up right now (Wikipedia - the bastion of truth!) only has the date for North America.
I think of all the things in this game, the weird perspective sucked the most. In some stages the enemies fly around you in very weird formations and the skewed viewpoint made it much harder than it actually was. At least in Iridion 2 you had walls on the sides of the levels to use for orientation, the invisible borders in NS are a major design flaw.
The scoring system was close second in terms of sucking. Not using weapons powers, not shooting excessively and not sucking in coins? FUN! Half of the weapons were pointless anyways, except for certain (unnatural) level design moments.
No forced touch control and classic viewpoint are set in stone. I hope they put some effort into the score system as well. I mean, it even has online leaderboards in it.
And on a sidenote, I recently sold my old NDSL and bought a new one. The much-bemoaned d-pad problems seemed to be a problem of many initial release models; the new ones work very smoothly (so I can finally but my bitching about this to rest. Yay!).
But I am optimistic that this will take the crown of portable shmups. Until Ketsui DS will kick it from its throne, of course. Fingers crossed.
