Rise of the Planet of the Apes is well worth seeing. Don't expect an action movie. This is all about the characters, and the only action is in the last 20 minutes. As I feared, the trailer was a synopsis of the entire movie, but it was enjoyable regardless.

The Gate... LOL. I saw that in the theater as a kid. Thanks for reminding me of it, I'm off to torrent hunting now.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

The Extraordinary adventures of Adele Blanc Sec.

Kept my interest. Rather interesting mix of adventure and comedy. I'd give it a 7/10.

Just watched the new Conan the Barbarian movie. Man, what a stupid movie.

Sure, it initially looks good, but the movie removes all traces when it comes to the depth of the characters. The senseless stupidity of the narrative, the generic soundtrack, the dull fast-cut style fight choreography....ugh. Just...ugh.

Worst actor to play Conan ever. Seriously. What the fuck. I'll probably be mad for another 15 years.

Just watched Dark Star last night. There's a friend of mine who claims this is his favorite film. I can't go there, but it was enjoyable and quirky.

Just watched the over-the-top revenge flick of Hobo with a Shotgun, it harkens back to those 1970s type of films where anything goes and does. Reminds me of some of those over-the-top astethical presentations of the Japanese horror flicks like Tokyo Gore Police and others. I like how the hospital scene goes into "condition red" after the main lighting gets shut down (it doesn't happen in real life but rather the emergency lighting system comes on-line if the main power goes off though).

The arcade scene in HwAS is cool...spotted an arcade cab with a generic marquee title with "The Plague" motif and what looks like a generic brawler based arcade title.

The Gate is only good if you had seen it as a kid. The scene where the kid gets the dead dog thrown on him is awesome!
Zeiram 2 is the shit, I am a huge fan of Keita Amemiya. Absolutely fantastic design work. Mechanical Violator Hakaider by him is worth watching.
Recently watched: Captain America rather good, the series of movies leading up to The Avengers has been awesome.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes very good, lots of drama. I don't really like James Defanco as an actor, this whole movie seemed like the script was better than the cast. Caesar (the ape) was standout by far.
30 Minutes or Less funny, good to see comedy that wasn't too raunchy actually. Aziz Ansari stole the show. But, ultimately forgettable..
Cowboys and Aliens starts off as a good western, should've stayed that way. The movie was terrible.
13 Assassins Miike's version of Seven Samurai, first half was boring, I cleaned my house instead of watching it. The second half when they were fighting in the town was really good, great battle.
Bought some dvd's in a 5 for $20 pile but haven't watched them yet, so this weeks viewing is; Saw (the latest one), Easy A, Jonah Hex, Despicable Me, and The Fall (directed by Tarsem (what's with only one name, are you Prince?) don't know much about it, but I am a very visual person and like this guys stuff so far.) I got Easy A 'cause of Emma Stone, and Jonah Hex for Josh Brolin, but that vapid actress that hates her fans is easy on the eyes as well - I'm sure she gets punched some where in the movie as well.

Cars 2 with the kids and my GF. She fell asleep, as did my youngest. And this was in the cinema. I give it 3/5 as it was very pretty to look at and had a few laughs, but it's just a vehicle for Disney to sell a couple of billion more toys really.

Always kind of a wtf moment when you find out a beloved favorite borrowed heavily (or ripped off or payed homage or however you want to look at it) from some film you've never heard of. This movie has fucking Slimer in it and they even build a device to catch it. Cool movie, check it out. Not a bare breast to be found, I'm afraid.

Squirm
Image
Shit sandwich.

I would've stopped right there, but I love that movie poster. If the day comes where I become a homeowner and I have my own dedicated nerd room I'll put one of those up. This movie has shitty effects, a lame plot and some unflattering titties.
2/10

Pieces
Image
The opening scene of Pieces is a flashback to 1942 when we see our killer lose his mind as a boy. He puts together some nudey jigsaw puzzle, gets beat by his mom, then chops her up. Fine.

Then I see the New England Patriots pennant on his wall.

Ummm...the Pats weren't formed until 1971 as part of the AFL and NFL merger when the Boston Patriots, who were founded in 1959, moved to Foxborough and changed their name. I hope someone got fired for that blunder. Really ruined the whole thing.

There's some memorable gore and its certainly notorious for its sleaziness. Titties abound.

Perfect Blue
Image

Not sure how I missed watching this movie until just hours ago (shameful, really). One of my new favorite psychological thrillers with a lot of thought put into how a person perceives reality and how badly that person can lose their grip on it. Definitely a must watch if you like films with a Hitchcock level of Mind Screw, but I'd almost recommend it to anyone that can handle the subject matter.

Actually, I unknowingly watched Perfect Blue hours ago without realizing that today is exactly one year since director Satoshi Kon's death at the age of 46 from pancreatic cancer. A marathon of his works is in order.

My wife and I just finished My Chauffeur as she'd seen it as a teen and wanted to rewatch it. It's pretty bad but the main actress at least gives an inspired, strange-yet-energetic performance.

Rise of The Planet of The Apes:

Really good fun. It's still completely Hollywood, but it's good Hollywood: the kind that's engaging, exciting and engrossing. It's still got duff dialogue and non-performances, but it was all about the apes. It has the same kind of fascination that Spider Man had when Peter Parker was discovering his powers, except here it's for the entire movie.

Even though it was CG, the apes were really interesting to watch. They gave a lot of thought to their character and developed everything nicely (even tying in the original film, albeit fleetingly.)

Worth the price of entry.

From imdb: A drug-dealing teen is killed in Japan, after which he reappears as a ghost to watch over his sister.
Almost 3 hours long. visually distracting at times. Good movie but preparation is almost required if you intend on watching the entire film in one sitting....

The first 15-ish minutes of film that shows Conan's childhood actually isn't too bad...but as soon as the movie jumps to Conan as an adult (played by Momoa), it takes a nosedive. Make your expectations REALLY low at that point, and maybe you will enjoy it more. I actually liked the child actors for Conan and the villainess more than their adult counterparts.

Concerning the scriptwriter, I don't know what edits were made to from the original screenplay, but the basic plot points were already so convoluted and contrived...I don't see how it could improve much. Even the fights are dull, pointless, and feel like padding to prolong the movie.

Naked Lunch. I fucking hated it. Not a single character had any redeemable qualities, and everyone was a loser and underachiever. I just couldn't relate to the exterminator or his white trash whore of a wife. At least the film didn't shove a gay anti-drug message down your throat like The Scanner Darkly did.

Watching Enter The Void is an interesting flick for the 1st person viewpoint perspective (and later on, 3rd person hovering perspective). ETV's opening credit intro is graphically cool in terms of using animated fontstyles for that unique overall presentation (kinda like the same thing with "Irreversible" flick's opening intro) -- a graphic designer's wet dream indeed. Another sci-fi/virtual reality film that uses some real time 1st person perspective shots is none other than Strange Days.

The weird part to me is I don't get why they couldn't have pulled more directly from the books themselves. Oh well.
