Read this before doing anything else if you're running the PSP exploit.

Basically:

Backup your Vita memory card, or at least the exploit game. Preferably with OpenCMA, but I think other methods might work too (regular CMA, PS3).

If you manage to run into this problem you might have to wait until the game gets back on the store before running the exploit again.

This will work as a short-term measure, but as soon as Sony rolls out a new firmware...

No. There are various tricks for downloading games if you are on a lower firmware version. (and they patch exploits with firmware upgrades, not by patching the games themselves).

The game will likely be back online only with 3.0.2, hence "patched".

Using the proxy method(if that`s what you mean by tricks) is a hassle and doesn`t always work, but when there are no other options available, I guess it`s worth trying.

Seems to mostly work, but it is complicated as you say so there's probably a few reports of it not working because of user error. Stuff I tried on my Vita today:

Doom PSP 1.4:
  • Hell Revealed worked.
  • Hell Revealed 2 worked and some boom features worked too, but at a pretty noticable performance drop, had to set low detail.
  • 16:9 display broken, use 4:3 (stretched or aspect ratio corrected).
  • Weapon switch sometimes messes up, especially if you try to interrupt the autopickup when you get new weapons.
  • Music obviously is not perfect, but pretty good.
  • Needs to create config file on a PSP (maybe PPSSPP works).
ProQuake 4.72u
  • Doesn't clear RAM properly between level switches, save before switching levels in case you run out.
  • Music sometimes screws up, found no other fix than a config delete.
  • Make a "quake.cmdline" file in ProQuake's directory containing:

    Code: Select all

    -cpu333 +sv_aim 1 +startdemos +menu_main
In order: set cpu to max speed, disable autoaim, clear demo queue (so you don't waste ram loading up the demo video) and go directly to main menu.
Doom Legacy
  • Only good Heretic port with music I've found.
  • Quite a few graphic glitches.
  • Poor quality sound when lots of sounds are playing.
If anyone has a better way of playing those games (with music), then I'd really like to know.

Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast still runs, but it seems you need to create a save file on a real PSP (or PPSSPP if that works), saving system on this game is pretty buggy overall and you might not even get it to work on a PSP...

Vita OS doesn't mind if you delete PSX manuals, so that's a way to save 100mb+ if you have a few PSX games. You can do the same if you have any PSP games. Connect with FTP and check the game directory for document files to do this.

Launching PSX games from the XMB works, though without sound why would you bother.

My Vita's been doing FTP transfers for a lot of this day and still hasn't run out of battery, I really don't get battery complaints about the Vita. I'm pretty sure the Vita doesn't go into standby when running PSP software btw, so be careful about that.

Yeah it's useless information day :P

Edit: couldn't get weapon switching to work nicely at all in Doom PSP 1.4, back to Legacy with glitchy graphics everywhere for Doom too :/

If I bought myself a Vita, would I have to repurchase it for the Vita, or is there a way to transfer UMD games to the Vita's memory?

Just wondering. Looks like I'm accruing enough Amazon credit to finally get one.
The response was more to replayme not wanting to take his Vita's virginity. Dariusburst is unavailable on Vita any other way except via Cfw. Since my copy is on the other side of the world, this is the only way I'm going to get to play it on the move, and the sooner the better!
There's a difference between taking my Vita's virginity, and disrespectfully ass-raping it.

On a related note however: that Darius screen does indeed look lush. I almost regret not buying the exploit title now. If only to witness the full fledged glory of Einhander on Vita.

God, I love Einhander so much. Haven't been able to play it in many years, but playing it on the go (via PSP) has definitely been something that has been worth waiting for.

Can only imagine what Iuchi would do if he ever managed to be contracted into making a sequel...

Wow, really love the curry god game so far. I'm just through the tutorial, so I'm just going on the presentation, story, music, etc. This is exactly my kind of thing. Thanks for pointing this out, BulletMagnet. I don't think I've enjoyed a cute game this much since Luminous Arc 2. At some point I'll have to get some further recommendations from you, BM.

Glad you're enjoying the game, but I'd advise against pushing your luck too much when it comes to recommendations emanating from my general direction!

I am also really enjoying Sorcery Saga. Curryently on Chapter 2 myself.

The game is hilarious, from the characters down to the item descriptions (Which there are a LOT of  ). The music is great (I smile every time Gigandes' theme comes on), and the game play is perfect. I'm sure it is just following roguelike tradition for the most part, but the way it handles this is great. Feeding extra items to Kuu really is a great way to make use of the (tons of) items you get. I love that his abilities that he gains through leveling change every time too.

BM was spot-on in saying that this is a great "my first roguelike". Another nod to you for a great recommendation!

It,'s alive!

Following the launch of PS4, PSV sales have gone up 68%. http://www.videogamer.com/news/ps_vita_ ... aunch.html
In absolute terms that may still not be a lot, but things are definitely improving for Vita. Especially in Japan it has been selling pretty well lately, above PS3 even.

I bet a lot of the jump in US sales was the Amazon bundle over the Black Friday period.

Regardless, I predicted this and was called crazy.

You don't seem to understand that this eCFW is only good for playing PSP isos and homebrew on Vita; PS1 games have no sound. If you wish to play Einhander, you should either resort to a PS1, a PS2, a PSP or an emulator.

Or if you have Vita with Japanese account just buy it from PSN for Y600.

Vita is missing a chip that was used for PS1 sound on the PSP, so sound is generated in a different way.

Its probably just a matter of time until someone figures out how its done.

I have bought a few PS1 games on Vita TV and they work just fine.

Right, you can of course buy it on PSN JP, but replayme was talking about installing the eCFW, which as I pointed out would be futile for this purpose, unless you don't mind playing soundless.

Re-encoding ripped Mpeg-2 DVD files to H.264 format, the PSVita with the OLED screen setup sure look mighty sweet, especially if zoomed in at 720 x 480 resolution (with the usual black bars on both the top and bottom sides of the screen). Just for kicks, I ripped a Region 0 Mpeg-2 DVD file of Macross Frontier: The False Songtress movie to H.264 format and it looks great on the ol' Vita's OLED screen setup. Am curious as to how well the Redline anime movie will look like running on the Vita as well.

It'd sure would've been nice if SCEI had included a pair of headphones from the get-go with the PSVita bundled sets sold at retail (like they did with the 1st-gen PSP-1000/1001 handheld bundled sets back in 2004) but it's additional $19.99 USD add-on at best (it's no biggie in the end though).

On the other hand, Best Buy had a special deal of a bundled PSVita with 3G/Wi-Fi set with an included 8GB memory card and pre-installed Sim card for use with AT&T 3G wireless service -- all this for a mere $169.99 USD a week leading into Thanksgiving/Black Friday madness. Definitely a steal at that particular pricepoint indeed. Yep, these were the PSVita with the OLED screen setup being sold, folks...SCEA still hasn't distributed the PSVita 2000 variant handhelds to retailers stateside yet. And still no word if SCEI will allow the sales of the PS Vita 64GB memory card or even the PSVita TV console in the USA either. Dang. Bring 'em both, SCEI pretty please.

I might need to buy the game via JPN PSN. But the hassle of formatting memory cards etc might make the process too painful.

The exploit game is gone. Some kind of leak occurred and Sony pounced on it instantly. Could be a sign of things to come!

It must be kind of an irritant to have to keep informing various developers that they're pulling their games down.

Looking forward to "Hyper Light Drifter". If the developer is to be believed, it's coming out on "PC, Mac or Linux, Steam" and "PS4, Vita, Wii U, or OUYA!".

Do you think the extra "3D" effort required to port games across to the 3DS might make future 3DS conversions unlikely? Because as it stands, I'd have thought that the 3DS would have made more business sense given its market penetration.

I'm sure I've heard of a handful of games which have been allowed release on the system without any 3D stuff built in...and then, of course, there's the recent "2DS" model. To their credit, Nintendo seem open to giving developers the option to take focus off of their primary gimmick, at least to some degree; Sony also doesn't seem to require touch screen stuff on everything for the Vita, so on that front I can't complain too much about either company at the moment (the ease of playing games from other regions, on the other hand...). I doubt HLD's lack of appearance on the 3DS had anything to do with 3D requirements (or has the developer said so, and I missed it?).

Been looking for info on the game. Seems like there was a SNES version planned, but the KS never reached its stretch goal. Oh well, might still happen. In which case, I'm there day one.

Here is a really good article on the game: http://www.redbull.com/us/en/games/stor ... ro-is-back

According to the developer, all versions will be the same. Not sure if the game will be in 3D, but there will be no "touch screen" implementation. So I guess that rules out the game utilising the screens of Wii U, Vita and 3DS (if it ever happens) - http://www.edge-online.com/features/hyp ... nostalgia/

Anyone know as to what the regular price is for thr Ys games on the UK PSN store? They're showing up as £7.99. Is this the regular price, or are the games on sale?

Thinking of picking up Ys 7.

Regular price.

US Store?

$7.49 / £4.57

Sucks to be British.

They are either on sale, or the price just dropped within the last week. I just picked up Oath, and it was $14.99. Ys 7 was priced the same.

If it is a sale, I need to go grab all the Ys games. $7.99 is a steal.

I just finished Ys Books I & II on the Turbo. So damn good. 4-way movement aside (which didn't bug me personally), these games did not feel dated at all. I was blown away by some of the tracks in these games. Darm was the toughest thing in both games by a landslide.

Started up Ys III Wanderers yesterday, and am already at max level and in the final stretch of the game. It doesn't touch the first two games (bosses are a joke and the voice acting took a dive), but its been a fun romp. About to fire up Oath at work.

Can't get enough of this series.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 fan translation released... and it does not work on a Vita :(

Hoping it will be fixed eventually...

Edit:
Got one of these (don't buy at that ridiculous price, it's available cheaper).

Basically allows you to charge over USB without having to turn the Vita off. You can make your own from USB extension cables, but I like having a nice small adapter for it.
