Oh you mean you really had hope at some point? Personally like with ep1,2,3 I never expected too much (enjoyed 3 tho, I know I'm the exception)Skykid wrote:This isn't the SW revolution I was hoping for. Nobody has really flattened Lucas yet; it's incredibly disappointing.
SW was a thing when the original trilogy came out and later with the theatrical and media re-releases of the 90's and 00's that utilized popular nostalgia-revival with positive results (ep123 were only there to assist this)
It died for good after that. And I mean the whole SW thing. What we're seeing now is the cgi-powered corpse (literally!) of a dead idea/franchise performing in front of an aging audience that can't let it go, and younger ones who don't give a fuck as to them it is like any other big Hollywod turd.

It's kind of like England playing football. Every time a major tournament comes around I have this faint glimmer of "maybe, just maybe..." even though in my heart I know I'm going to get shat on. SW is kind of like that. I see the teasers and trailers and think, "perhaps this time". Really naive I know, I think it's a kind of reflex.
Drink acid!(enjoyed 3 tho, I know I'm the exception)
Yeah, the theatrical releases of the SE's really relit expectation and hope for the future, and gave the announcement of the prequels the kind of mad hype they needed. When they turned out to be six hours of live action dogshit I think the nail went through the coffin.SW was a thing when the original trilogy came out and later with the theatrical and media re-releases of the 90's and 00's that utilized popular nostalgia-revival with positive results (ep123 were only there to assist this)

I, too, think 3 is decent...certainly the best of the prequels Lucas did. Did it have its faults? Sure! Were they fewer and less egregious than the ones that presented themselves so prevalently in 1 and 2? Absolutely.
3 at least advanced the story in a less annoying way than the others did.
Re: Movies you've just watched
You didn't get the joke, obviously, but to parlay the notion and humour you, a critic should deal in as close to absolutes as possible, or else their assessments will lack conviction. If you don't have conviction then your recommendations are all but worthless.boagman wrote:Nice.Xyga wrote:Only a film critic deals in absolutes.Skykid wrote:You didn't really enjoy it, you were in some kind of weird mindstate/trance. It is a barrel of complete shit; the movie equivalent of a peep show floor. There's nothing redeeming in there in cinematic terms, it is an outright failure at every turn, cobbled together with CGI sequences that have no place or gravity, to string out what's already a hell of an ordeal.I, too, think 3 is decent.
For me it's possibly the worst of the three. Total gonads.

Deja Vu: **
A 2007 Jerry Bruckheimer film about a secret government agency that uses some sort of technology to see into the past to solve crimes (in this case, a bombing of a ferry in New Orleans). Basically an overgrown episode of CSI with time travel, not particularly interesting.

I will *totally* give you the CSI-esqueness of it, but I find it entertaining. Denzel's almost always a good watch, plus, Val Kilmer and Adam Goldberg!

"Kong: Skull Island"
My word...I can't remember the last time I laughed as hard in a movie theater as I did watching this movie; perhaps "Due Date" was the last time.
Entertaining as all-get-out. B-Movie-tastic. Ridiculous in so many aspects, it's hard to even quantify everything that was there to be laughed at...and I'm not sure that it was intentional, really. I *have* to believe that some of it wasn't, but I'm telling you, if you want to laugh at the silliness of a movie, this one will do it for you. It's a bounty of laughs, or at least it was for my buddy and I. If you go expecting something akin to any kind of serious movie, you're going to the wrong place. Go with minimal expectations or with a desire to be entertained, and you'll be fine.
It's truly unfortunate that you can never see a movie again for the first time. This is one of those movies that I wish I could see again for the first time, just for the value of the laughter. $7 and well worth it.

And it was hilarious seeing Rita eating a doughnut while looking for the crystal.Spoiler
Did anybody see the cameo appearances of Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank? You'll see them right at the end of the final battle.

When is Japan making a remake of Goranger? They now know what they shouldn't do after the mess that was the 2005 remake of Kamen Rider, and it's lolwut JP horror sequel The Next.

Rogue One
I keep feeling like I am watching a fan film, but one that has an amazing effects budget. This is better than the prequel trilogy, but still that isn't saying much. Donnie Yen kicks ass too little though.

Its the storm troopers that don't kick enough ass. Apart from gathering in large numbers and looking menacing in lines, they have about as much impact as flicking a rubber band.lilmanjs wrote:Rogue One

That said, I feel like the Death Troopers should've been more heavily emphasized. Or actually just have been made Dark Troopers instead.

It's a parody in that it is a conceptual straight faced hyperbole. Every scene is straight-faced and serious and believable. If you watched it and enjoyed every minute of it dramatically, literally - you're not stupid, you're honest. That's what I wanted. And when it ended and you laugh and go what the fuck did I just watch, you're acknowledging you just legitimately enjoyed a fucking Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie where they fucked porn stars, did coke, and blew people's brains out a face value. THAT'S irony, THAT's the comedy, THAT's the parody.

Re: Movies you've just watched
Train to Busan -
Korean Zombie flick based almost entirely on a train from what looks like Seoul to Busan. Extremely well presented and the blu ray was incredibly crystal clear on the PQ. There were quite a lot of ideas in the zombie theme never done before here so that was susprising. The claustrophobic setting works well and the train scenes were done well too. Is it me or are Asian child actors just incredibly emotional in their acting? Some scenes I almost shed a tear. Train to Busan is not one of the best movies i've ever seen but I did find enough positives to highly recommend it.
The Accountant -
2 good movies in one day? Yes. Ben Affleck plays an autistic man who is a sharp shooter, can fight like a military expert and but also can also do his numbers. The movie plays out quite unexpectedly. Whilst I would compare it to movies like John Wick or Denzel Washingtons "The Equalizer", The Accountant is unique in that it handles the concept of sharp shooting in a slightly more realistic fashion. It doesn't hurt that Ben Afflecks Mathematician scenes are equally mesmerizing to watch. I don't know what gun Ben Affleck is shooting since I'm not up to speed on my gun models, but whatever he is shooting sure gave my subwoofer a spin.
Mojin -
Chinese movie with top drawer special effects. Tries to rip of movies like "The Mummy" and Nicholas Cage's "The National Treasure". Lots of dead coming to life and boobie traps. When a group of ex Tomb raiders hang up their boots and the money runs dry, a un named group of people hire them to go back to a place where their greatest nightmares were experienced. When their relationships breaks down in the midst of evil, the tomb raiders are forced to pursue their loot at gun point. Mojin is a movie that just rolls in front of your eyes, you never feel emotionally engaged with it. The main characters have that broken personality feel and quite often their acting makes you wince a little. I never felt like turning it off (except on my first run which I got so tired I couldn't read the subtitles). Not top drawer, but if you like movies with good special effects its decent enough to kill 2 hours.
