Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
What about DDP II?
I found this on gaming.wikia:
"To enter Stage 7, player must reach at least a specific target scorce at the end of stage 6. The target score is accessible by arcade game operator, which can be changed to 200, 300, 400 (default), 500, or 800 million points."
So, the game has no second loop and only the TLB? And I can only trigger it if I reach the target score?

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
I heard somewhere that Blazing Star has a TLB unlocked by some bizzare score/scoring and/or undiscovered secrets (like those big winged orbs with the letters).
It is supposed to be a giant baby or baby head instead of the blob.
Any info?

Sidenote: dodonpachi saidaioujou has no second loop. So not all dodonpachi games.

Indeed there is a giant baby and then something else, is it a blob?
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
yes normally it turns into a biomechanical blob but the tlb should be the giant baby or a giant head.
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
1) The enemies fire suicide bullets on the 2nd loop of DonPachi.
Does they do that on the original DoDonPachi too?
2) On Daioujou Black Label, there are two types on the intro screen:
- Version A (old)
- Version B (new)
What's the difference between them?

There's just more bullet mayhem to deal with.
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
IIRC Version B is Black Label, Version A is standard Dai-Ou-Jou (White)Synnae wrote:2) On Daioujou Black Label, there are two types on the intro screen:

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Version B is the one that includes Hibachi on the first loop, isn't it?
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
You can choose to have Hibachi after the first loop or second loop in Version B. Only 2-loop score are considered "legit".Synnae wrote:Version B is the one that includes Hibachi on the first loop, isn't it?

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
The game basically has a giant Hibachi-esque robot for a TLB. I've gotten to it a few times and come close to a 1CC, but I never even realized there was a target score to meet. The default setting is probably such that you're nearly guaranteed to get it as long as you get there without using continues. The TLB also doesn't show up if you play the easiest difficulty setting as far as I can tell.Synnae wrote:So, the game has no second loop and only the TLB? Am I holding Ibara arrange's WR with Dyne? All I've found are scores using Bond.

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Thank for the answers people.
Also, was this ISO person the only player on Earth that beated DaiOuJou Hibachi legit? I can't find anyone else that managed to do it.
I'd also like to know how many people beated Hibachi from the original DoDonPachi.

I think trap's right on this one. A couple of people have nailed death label, although I've only seen the one video.

To TATE or not to TATE?
I have a 32" tv that I use for everything including vertical shooters, it works out at about (unTATE'd) 16" x 11" (depending on the game). I bought a 27" with the intention of TATEing it but once I did it was basically the same aspect ratio 16" x 11". Ive seen a lot of people that prefer to have a smaller screen thats TATE'd rather than a normal one even though the ratio is the same. Can anyone shed some light on this? Do some just prefer the screen to be that shape with no increase in size? What the best size (when TATE'd) to play shmups on your opinion?
Thanks

OK, here's something weird I want to ask: Always when I look at my Mushi Futari poster I think of Palm as a girl (with boyish looks maybe). It's strange that he is supposed to be a boy, feels just wrong. Anyone else ever had that thought?

Only if you can fire both directions. But I generally hate having to wait for enemies to pass me.mastermx wrote:Enemies spawning behind you; is it ever justified?

Depends. I hate the sneaky ambush just when you think you're in the quiet bit before the boss run-up. A few games do that and I think it's pretty cheap, normally only catches me the first time though.mastermx wrote:Enemies spawning behind you; is it ever justified?

It can work well when it's telegraphed properly and serves a good purpose in the level design. Exceed 2nd has a few enemies appearing from the bottom of the screen, but it's never a bad thing since collision doesn't kill you, and you've usually been forced to the top of the screen at that point anyway. Not to mention you can still melee enemies directly behind you.mastermx wrote:Enemies spawning behind you; is it ever justified?

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
I'll second this; having enemies come at you from various directions can make things more exciting and force you to plan your movements in ways you wouldn't otherwise, but when it's a case of "you've never played this level before and don't know I'm coming so DEAD" with no warning at all it's more frustrating than anything else.Squire Grooktook wrote:It can work well when it's telegraphed properly and serves a good purpose in the level design.
