To be fair though, it's not about the quantity of clears you have on your list. It's more a question of how hard they were to accomplish.

Yeah, there's lots of 'easy' 1CCs to be had, but it's more impressive when you're able to go for a better clear, like a nomiss/nobomb run, or a really high score, loop the game, etc. There can be a huge difference between just barely clearing a game or absolutely demolishing the game.

Yeah,I get the difference between barely clearing or destroying a game...it's all good! Again though, what's easy for some might not be for others, same old that's been discussed on this forum before.still,it's more clears than mine, so I'm fairly impressed.A lot people's 1cc lists on here are impressive, you guys included!

I think consistency also counts for a lot too. I'm really quite an inconsistent player and getting a good run for me requires several hours play at a time until I finally get a run where I'm not making horrible mistakes early on, whereas other players can pop in a credit and bang out a good clear no problem.

That's not to say that 1CCs aren't impressive as it is, but there's definitely other ways in which player skill can be judged.

EDIT: you do yourself down mate, average shmuper? Your 1cc list is pretty impressive I reckon!
Thanks mate. Sadly, it's only so long due to iOS 1CCs! Though I guess there's a good few console/PCB scores on there now! I've just never come near the skills needed to clear something like Ketsui or DOJ. That said, I have felt myself get better over the years, so who knows!

EDIT: Maybe I do do myself down. Only about 8 out of 45 titles cleared are iOS…

Absolutely true, but I don't feel people should get too hung up on concerns about what counts as having got the most from a game. Play however you have the most fun, and finish when you feel you've got what you can out of the game. Caladrius happens to be a game where clearing and scoring well are very closely intertwined, so I feel I pushed it as much as I wanted to (managed 38th in the world leader board with a non-1CC in the end), so I'm happy to think about moving on to another game). Another person might want to stay on until they get a top-3 score and master 1CCing with every character. To each his own!

That said, I find it hard to put down a shmup I enjoy until the 1CC comes; even f that sometimes means going beyond the point where I enjoy it anymore!

It seems on here, that you're only really aknowledged as a good player if your clears include doj, sdoj, ketsui and a few others, apart from those main ones then everything else is easy.I respect all arcade and console clears whether you destroyed it or just scraped through (mainly cause I just scrape through!)...
I definitely agree, that if you enjoy a game that much, them push until the clear comes, but don't push beyond it until it becomes a grinding chore and not fun...I felt exactly the same about akai katana.man,I love that game so much! I have to say I havn't enjoyed studying and playing anything as much as that in recent times.

Spadgy, maybe one day the doj and ketsui clears will come,I'm the same though,I get wrecked by those games time and again but each time I play them after a fair break,I find I've improved a bit just due to keeping my chops up other stuff.maybe I'll clear one those games myself one day!

people who need others to clear SDOJ, ketsui and DOJ to consider them good are dumb. you can be a good player without any of these. By clear, I assume 2-all. you already need to be a good player to 2-all a game. especially ketsui, which is considerably harder than DOJ or SDOJ arcade. I assume a lot of people with those clears are considered good because almost everyone knows these games and it's easier to gauge their difficulty for the others. it's harder to gauge the difficulty of a shmup you never played. which is why I assume every time a new Touhou player with a lot of experience posts something everyone goes like "whoa, what" since a lot of people never played it and thus don't know they can turn hard as fuck if you want them to.

I'd disagree with that and say Ketsui ura and DOJ are very much comparable in difficulty, DOJ BL somewhat less so.

I'm playing WL. ;_; (just cause I want to clear it before moving on to BL, I don't know why)

But yeah, nobody plays WL. The hyper enemy rank speedup is much stricter early on, and you get fewer hypers in general, meaning you can't use them as flexibly.

I remember someone (Jaimers maybe?) saying that Ketsui and DOJ were both hard, it's just that where Ketsui has more resources but tougher patterns, DOJ is much more stingy on resources, but there's some easier patterns with tricks to 'em. They're both definitely tough, and their difficulty is so well known that even a 1CC is quite impressive.

I 1CC'd Deathsmiles II arcade last night. :)

I made several dumb mistakes early on and had 3 lives going into the castle. I just barely got by Satan Claws at the end. Deathsmiles II is better than I thought it would be but I like the original more.

I'm one of those types that lets myself claim a 1CC after a first loop clear (another classic shmup debate hornets' nest to stir up there.). I don't think I'm too rare a thing. Obviously a 2-all (when a game has a final second loop rather than no loops or infinite loops) is the ultimate clear, but I can't imagine I'll ever see such a thing on my 1CC list!

I see plenty of people on here list a 1 all as a 1cc,I'd say it counts.

A 1-all is a 1CC of the first loop, so yes, it should count as a 1CC. Not all games automatically loop either, and some loop infinitely, so counting a first loop clear as a 1CC is perfectly fine, as long as it's marked as a 1-all or marked how far you got in the loop.

Yeah - I think it's the general consensus. But I will just tip toe off to my 1CC list here on the forum to check mine are all marked as 1-ALL where relevant. Shhh!

EDIT: All fine actually. Only Progear, some DDPs and Raiden IV on my 1CC list needed marking,

Finally, after nearly three years of owning the Saturn port, I 1CC'd Darius Gaiden! Playing the game on a whim this morning just sort of led to the most successful run ever, ha ha.

Maybe it's because I picked Risk Storage as the last boss? Avoided Electric Fan and Titanic Lance?

Whatever, screw it; Darius Gaiden is a bitch of a game and I beat it. 8)

I guess it is in some ways a milestone; the first shmup I ever played I finally cleared, ha.
That still leaves Darius II and G-Darius!

How did you get it to save that replay, for me, I sometimes (accidently due to screen setting) play it 75hz and then it refuses to save my replay... I always assumed it was due to not being close to 60hz
