Very nice cab!
The retail version arrived for me today. I put about 5 hours into it before work and I am fairly happy. Ketsui is pretty much my favorite game ever, so it is a novelty I suppose. I'm still getting used to BL but as it stands, I am really enjoying it and look forward to putting an ungodly amount of hours into it. Hope everyone has some fun.

Somehow, BL has made me better at Ketsui. I was able to get to the 2nd boss on one credit last night, which almost got me on the leaderboard finally. I wonder if Daifukketsui will help my game also...
Re: Xbox 360: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 (November 2010)
I got my copy of BL Retail today and OMG, it's mindblowing. I did a quick credit feed with headphones on and the visuals with that completely awesome soundtrack is the best first run of any arrange mode so far for me. I like how I'm told when a boss is about to die (in Japanese for the portions that'll give you chips if you switch to C-shot) and that the high score board says "Ketsui Style". It very much reminds me of the first tries I had at Ketsui on PCB a couple of years back, and how it wasn't yet bothersome to bite the dust on a swarm of bullets as the fun meter was on max at the same time. I love it.

Re: Xbox 360: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 (November 2010)
Personally I would skip 1.5 and just get Black Label retail. The problem with 1.5 was that it was a 2-loop game, with the first loop being really easy (hypering helps survival and score) - plus auto bomb. It didn't get interesting until the second loop.Nico87 wrote:Shit question inc. I'm not a very competent shmups player, though I do have the ocassional "how the fuck did I manage that!?" moment. With Black Label getting a half decent score and surviving are more closely related. You can have auto bomb on or off, and you don't have to play at max rank all the time. It's very easy to alter the difficulty whilst playing.
Sapz has posted some useful info here:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 35324&view
I think both games on the disc are excellent - but I'm not a particularly good player, I just enjoy dodging through bullets and getting a 1cc, scoring is secondary. In that respect Black label is a good challenge, not overwhelming unless you want it to be, and not to easy like DFK.

True - I won't be selling mine for that reason. If you've got the cash buy both, but with reference to Nico87's question, if I had to pick I'd buy Black Label.Thjodbjorn wrote: Arrange A is amazing. I'd never sell 1.5 if for no other reason than that.
Re: Xbox 360: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 (November 2010)
Really, if you're finding the first loop of DFK 1.5 boring, you should definitely look into getting some nice chains down. Even 1-1 is still interesting for me with Strong, because I'm trying to get 4 billion in the stage rather than pure survival.
It's a lot more exciting to play that way, and it encourages you to not use hypers for the hard parts. Arrange A is very cool, but I've barely touched it for 1.5 - the game just gets better and better the harder you try to score in it (until you start looking at boss milking I suppose
).

Re: Xbox 360: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 (November 2010)
Ketsui is really consistent though, so I can see that. Once you get into the groove and get your boss patterns down it's not that hard to 1CC the first loop, and the difficulty ramp is just about perfect in my eyes. Galuda lulls you to sleep, then ramps up at the end before hitting you with that rather cheap final boss. I was able to 1CC both games, but overall I'd rank Ketsui as a much more approachable game.charlie chong wrote:1.5 and black label original are both walks in the park to be honestapple arcade wrote:Im referring to WL Futari. And I don't think 1.5 first loop is really such a joke either to those that are saying it is. Yes, pick Strong or Bomb and it's a pretty easy clear. I'd imagine most players could pull it off within their first few plays really. Yet, Power is a whole other game. Power took me a good week of memorizing stage 5 and working on the laser sections to finally get through it. It's not up in the top ranking of tough 1CC's, but it's a good workout when you don't have a bomb stock to save your ass at every miss.
FULL LOCK is BOMB

I agree here; Arrange A is just excellent. It totally made the whole thing worth it to me. Arrange B is buckets of goodness too (since the patch anyway). Those modes do make 1.5 worth a purchase..... though honestly, I think 1.5 itself is still pretty good.dan76 wrote:Yeah, didn't particularly float my boat.moozooh wrote: Tried not using Bomb & Strong styles yet?

But if you're gonna play 1.5, you gotta go into it knowing that it's sort of a pure-scoring thing.... there's not much survival challenge here. I agree with those that have said that 1.5 is way too easy... cause it is. I've been mostly playing Arrange A and B alot... which involve completely different strategies and such than 1.5... and actually hadnt played 1.5 all that much. Even still, 2 nights ago I figure, ok, I may as well make a quick attempt at clearing 1.5's first loop. Only took one try to do this. Yeah, the Laser Hell area is pretty irritating, but I've seen worse *cough* Futari, 2nd half of stage 3 *cough*. If you can find a good route through Laser Hell, you'll have 1.5 beaten without too much trouble. At least the scoring system makes up for the lack of difficulty here.
As for BL and Ketsupachi, I'll post up my impressions as soon as I have it. I am currently waiting for it to be 4:30 so that I can dash down to the blasted Fedex facility and pick up the game.... I dunno why these people cant just leave it by the door. Always gotta run down there every time a Cave game comes in the mail....

Re: Xbox 360: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 (November 2010)
I'm really impressed by DFKBL so far. The general idea is to max out the rank as fast as possible, kill lots of large enemies that self-bullet cancel with tons of stuff on-screen to rack up the hits and chain value for the first half of the stage, with the second half being a mix of that and hyper cancelling bullets into stars. You can take out bosses easily at low rank, or you can take them out at high rank to rack in even more points, if you've kept your chain. You can only break the chain in hyper, or by bombing - even dying outside a hyper won't break it, just chop a bit off and remove your rank, so autobomb style is highly discouraged. More info on the system here.
DFK 1.5 was already a fast paced game when played for score, but BL completely outdoes it in this respect, it's intense. You can play it a pretty easy way, but you don't really activate the scoring system at all until you start trying to do everything with the rank maxed. Hyper timing is also really important since it removes rank after they end... it kind of reminds me of Crimzon Clover, actually. Strong style starts with Tsuujou loop patterns (including suicide bullets) at minimum rank... at maxed rank, have fun.
With Bomb, I'm still finding a 1-all to be more difficult than a 1-all with Power in 1.5, though I'm playing for score quite heavily. I imagine a pure survival run would be a little easier, but you're missing out on most of the game that way, just like in 1.5.
Can't comment on Ketsui arrange yet, because I have no idea what's going on. It's fun, though.
