Sweet, my 103 mil score got saved. Could've sworn I did that in 1p mode too...Elixir wrote:So I wake up and see my Japanese friend's streaming DOJBLEX. It connected and I noticed he's browsing the leaderboards. I saw adversity in the list, along with my Japanese friend at rank #1 with 500 mill. Hahaha.
The kicker? He was using an Xbox 360 controller.
Funny thing about that list, Mihara is currently #3 (mimimi san) with 153 million points.

Sweet, maybe I'll be able to beat your score eventually. What input are you using, by the way? The HRAP EX? I was thinking of getting one although I'm more dexterous with pads. Unless you're using a 360 pad in which case stop beasting.adversity1 wrote:Sweet, my 103 mil score got saved. Of course the DOJ DVD was relatively fresh (within a year or a few) of the game, so it's no surprise the PS2 rankings are higher now that people have had.. 6 years to work with it.

Oh see, even I didn't know what. Nice stick then apart from the rather limited button layout. Good enough for shmups, but useless for games like SFIV.Elixir wrote:Otomedius stick is full Sanwa. The HRAP EX2 has Hori buttons; gotta get dem mods, adversity. The price of the Otomedius stick is ludicrous though. It's what, $300+?
The stick bundled with the game was roughly 300$ or so yes. But I simply couldn't resist. :-/

the ps2 ranking page hasn't accepted new scores for yearsElixir wrote:Sweet, maybe I'll be able to beat your score eventually. What input are you using, by the way? The HRAP EX? i watched a vid on nicovideo where someone fiddles around with this game and it looks like it runns really choppy?
the menus and everything is smooth but during the actual gameplay it almost looks like it skips frames every now and then ??
aside from that i think it looked allright actually, tons of options and stuff aswell.

the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

Controls of the menu are just damn weird (which a video can't show). Nothing to worry about all too much, it's just confusing why you sometimes exit a menu with 'Start', sometimes with 'Select' and why for instance your config gets lost every time you play again.bcass wrote:I saw the video EOJ posted over at cave-stg.com and I think the menus look pretty slick actually. One of the most important things I noticed is that there's an option to turn the filter off.

I guess I'll pick up my copy today, I did a preorder at a store which comes with some bonus library cards, wild stuff. Should get Shooting Love tomorrow so this weekend will be all sorts of exciting.
It seems stupid as hell to have to unlock X mode, especially after 6 hours of playing. The whole idea is for it to be friendly to new players, but they can't access it until they spend a lot of time playing, likely frustrating time since you start with 0 extra credits. What a terrible idea...

Actually you aren't constantly hypered, it's just that the hypers you get from bullet canceling are almost always allowing you to extend it. There's still room to die, patterns to dodge and chaining (until the next hyper) to do. It doesn't look like a complete walk in the park. At least, that's the impression I'm getting from this video.originalz wrote:It seems stupid as hell to have to unlock X mode, especially after 6 hours of playing. X Mode basically has a more frequent number of hypers on the screen, a higher chain, and using two hypers lets you "bullet cancel" like Daifukkatsu. While doing this, bullets that you absorb end up adding to your chain's total, along with any ships you destroy. This gives me the feeling of extreme boss and ship milking, like in Galuda.ex.machina wrote:What's the X Mode about?
I also hated the idea to start with just 1 single credit, but they fill up relatively fast. I played a couple of rounds and am already up to 3 or 4 credits now.

I don't care about this at all, I see it more as a bonus mode that'll be fun to mess around with. If it was advertised as that, then I wouldn't have any problems. The thing is that they hyped it as some n00b-friendly mode, and the videos seem to support this by making the game easy and more fun for a new person, easing them into the insanity of the main game. This is a great idea since many people might be turned off by the difficulty of the main game, and an easier mode to mess around in and actually make progress in will help expand the audience.Enhasa wrote:If it bothers you that much, use a turbo controller and leave it on overnight. (similar to what Sonic R is getting at I think, only it works for play time too)
This whole vision is pointless if you need to spend that much time to even access the mode, most casual players will get frustrated at being destroyed and might not even last 6 hours to unlock the mode. Besides, by then you're probably good enough at the game that an easier gametype won't give you as much benefit.

X-mode is advertised as 'flashier and easier' on the back of the case. I agree with originalz, the whole point was to have some stuff friendlier for beginners. Fact is that the game is massively unfriendly to beginners as it stands. Start, die on stage 2. No continue. Start again, ok a little later you get some continues. But are most beginners going to make it past 6 hours? Sketchy proposition IMO.
There's just no defending the ludicrous design choices made with this game. They got everything wrong except for the game itself.
Speaking of the game, just came back from the arcade to compare the two. First off, why are the arcade's graphics better than what I'm seeing at home?? Am I crazy? It's much smoother. Maybe it's my LCD? shrug...
Also confirmed that a Hori EX 2 is inferior to arcade Seimitsu. Scored 30 mil higher this time at the arcade. Sigh...time to mod my stick.
