Geese countering the whole FF and AOF cast was so good. Nice touch from Fatal Fury Special there too.

Pretty much this. Counter poking simply isn't allowed in V. If you dare to try counter poking mids or even hards with lows, you'll probably lose due to a totally fucked up priority system (which they say took inspiration from the one found in 3rd strike but has nothing to do with that). The gaps they put into poke strings now are just there, to make it easier for people mashing out SRKs, so that they don't have to rely on input errors. Same boring crap IV already was in the regard.
Also it's ridiculous, how hard it is to punish dumb stuff in this game, how simple ex moves can cost you 30% of your health or more (thanks to possible follow ups in some cases) and naturally it's again a clusterfuck of frametraps and 50/50 situations (impressively showcased by Marn recently). Everything that sucked about prior SFs condensed into one game. The SFIV and ST crowd naturally loves it.

I love ST and detest V, you can't get further away from ST than V. The ST community also largely disliked SFIV, so I don't think there are that many ST fans who like this either.

KOF XIV starting to look genuinely good. Geese and his stage are very nice, and Ryo look so much better than SFV Ken... I think part of the textures looking bad is because SNKP gives poor resolution videos of the game, characters look much better in pictures of better definition. Of course there's still a lot of work to be done, but if at least everyone got to the quality of Geese I could accept the visuals like that even if they would look worse than SNK's pixel art.

To be honest, I alway got a different impression concerning the ST community's opinion on IV and was always baffled by that.
And now with V even a lot of former ST players seem to return. Not that I think that every ST player liked IV and also being aware of the fact that the potential money naturally plays a part in that, but I always thought the majority did, thanks at least to the very projectile focused gameplay. I didn't follow discussions on the SRK boards that much after it's release though.

Really liked the Geese reveal as well and there are finally some okay/good stages now (Geese stage and waterfalls for example) but characters still look too much like they were sponsored by Mattel. But all in all it looks good enough I guess. Gameplay looks indeed promising.

Dunno, most ST players I know of, be local or top US/Japanese/European seemed to hate IV with a passion since it destroys a lot of what makes ST good. ST might have strong projectiles, but it also has extremely strong offense, and SFIV characters are very weak and stripped down compared to ST, plus the physics, abundance of option selects, bad walk speeds, easy reversals, poor throws and a myriad of other things make it not too ST compliant. Save for Snake Eyez I don't remember any prominent ST player who dedicated himself to IV, and the few who played it were largely multi-game players rather than ST specialists, and even then they mostly did so because of money and large competition rather than actually liking the game.

As for KOF XIV, yes, the shiny plastic-like textures are the main problem with the game's graphics. The models are fine, the stages are mostly fine, but poor texturing makes it look a lot worse than it should be. Still, when one looks at higher resolution pictures of the game things improve quite a bit, and the low res videos SNKP has posted make it look worse than it really does.

Well, I'm glad to hear that. ;)

You definitely won't hear any objections from me on this (and I'm not even a ST player and only average in the games I play). The easy (and partly safe as EX) reversals killed the game single-handedly for me. I always found it ridiculous, how you often have to give up your offense because your opponent has meter, with there being no good options to bait things effectively and not being able to stuff the nonsense. The high level play, though being very technical, always looked extremely boring due to this and the resulting lack of options.

The problem is, that KoFXIII looked really good and though the stages weren't that interesting concerning perspective and architecture, there was a lot going on in them. KoF14 stages look pretty empty, though it's mostly arenas, which makes those also kinda boring. It's pretty obvious, that they didn't have a big budget for it. Still, it looks good enough now and you're right about those screenshots.

A large portion of why people seem to think KOF14 looks so bad is that miserable first trailer. Good lord, that was bad. The visual jump from the first to the second was crazy.
actually, it wasn't until the fourth that things got vaguely decent, but hey

I can stuff a myriad of moves with crouch MP as Nash. Granted, it doesn't seem like many other characters can do this as reliably as him, but to say you can't counter poke at all is a little much.

Being a former Eddie player in GGAC, it should come as no surprise that Marn chose to exploit a very specific weakness of SF players: their inability to use jumping on defense.

While I agree that her offensive ability is a little too high for a game with relatively few defensive options, she is far from unbeatable. She's easy to keep out as long as you understand her movement patterns, just don't get caught mashing or else you're in for the ride.

How's that for a total about-face; instead of using KoF characters in pachislot games, SNK is taking a pachislot character and putting her in KoF.

XIV is going to have 19 new characters. That's quite a feat.

Yet that will never receive as much buzz as Alex did for SFV. There is no god.

Haha, Banderas? You never dissapoint, SNK. He's Brazilian, that was in the leak from way back. If any character comes from Argentina, that's probably Nelson.

Mai looks super fun, I love the things she did in that vid, like juggling after Musasabi no Mai, cr.A into cr.D, command normal into air super, air shenanigans from 2k2 and Real Bout's d, d + C spinning flame attack. She seems to be heavily influenced on her Real Bout incarnations (which is great since her most fun versions were in those games) with some touches from 2k2.

Unless someone else looks really good, I think I have my team already: King (which I always main), Mai (always liked her but this incarnation looks like her best ever in KOF) and Geese (favorite SNK character, would main even if he's trash).

I'm convinced it's just going to get dropped quietly now.

Anyone remember how SNK said they were still working on a Garou MOTW sequel as late as 2008 or so?

...and two days before that in the Americas. One thing I noticed...

3-On-3: KOF’s traditional game system is back! Select your favorite 3 fighters from the game’s gorgeous character roster, and fight to victory via King of Fighter‘s traditional and most praised “3-on-3 TEAM BATTLE” game system!

I assume that means that "tagging" is out?

Dunno why they said they were going back to the traditional 3-on-3 system, the tag system hasn't been used since XI.

Also, SNK Playmore is now SNK again. Apparently they re-hired staff from the 90's and are bringing their original name back, looks like they are serious about making a comeback.

Meitenkun looks like a boy, and the leak definitely said boy [his description in the leak was: 枕头少年, emphasis on 少年].
Also, this is the same company that made Chonshu and Bao, SNK really seems to like their girly-looking Chinese boys.

I'm pretty damn surprised SNK's bringing the original name+slogan back. Hopefully, this means they're definitely going to actually be an active developer now.
Couple of my friends really want Samurai Shodown 7 to be a thing at some point after KOF14 is done.

Also, the footage for DLC Kyo is probably the best the game has looked yet:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_kvG7vjH_8
Which is a given, it's just two characters, in the right lighting, they've been fixing up animations but not everyone looks this nice yet, etc.
It's not perfect, but it doesn't look terrible anymore.
