More doujins need online leaderboards.

Also hard mode is silly.

EDIT:
| Yeah. I posted a video in the youtube thread for those interested.

I remember many years ago, I was told by Sapz, may he rest in piece, that EspRade would be a great thing to try next after 1-all'ing DoDonPachi. Tried it but never finished it because... I dunno Touhou sang to me or something. EspRade did sing as well but loli voices overpower Esper-teen voices.

Finally got around to picking it up again and then:

[08:20] <@kogasahasanicecunt> weee EspRade 1cc. first credit post practice :3
[08:20] <@kogasahasanicecunt> i really fucked up big time on the final boss, but overall i think the run was pretty okay
[08:21] <@kogasahasanicecunt> this game has some really good final stages i think. and the final boss has very fun patterns. would recommend
[08:21] <@kogasahasanicecunt> just too bad about the dumb location of the hitbox. seriously who thought that putting it on your characters neck instead of their waist was a good idea

I think it's prudent enough that it was recommended to me after DoDonPachi 1-all because this really didn't take me very long. 2-3 hours tops. Perhabs not even 2 hours. I tend to overestimate how long a session has been when i play shmups. Is hard work yo :3
Not that it matters anyway lol, i just like to take note of clear times to watch my own progress and compare things to other games.

Sapz, may he rest in piece,
[edit] Seems there was a misunderstanding because where I come from we don't joke about people's death.

Carry on.

Sapz updated his Twitter yesterday. I think Zengeku3 just provided us with an example of why irony in texts doesn't always work. The same would have happened in verbal communication when talking to a stranger, though, so it's not an inherent limitation of the written word.

Yeah, oops. Didn't mean to say that he's dead, just that he's retired from the shmup scene and that he was to enjoy his retirement in peace.

Really this should be obvious man, everyone knows that Sapz cannot die.

Omega Fighter Special ROM Special Mode, 1CC. Picked this up again last night or so, decided I wanted to clear it today, so I put in about 2 or 3 hours practicing stages 6 through 8 on stream. Took a little break, came back and popped the 1CC and made it to 2-7 :)

Twitch highlight, YouTube upload (might still be processing).

Maybe people would like to see how I practiced through, so here's a Twitch highlight of that.

I probably will be on the lookout for a PCB of this at some point.

Lots of stuff to talk about today; had a really great time at arcade game's meet.

I LOOPED DOJBL...

...sort of.

I qualified for the loop, but chose the wrong thing when the 'end game immediately or continue into loop' option came up. So the game ended immediately. And I still had two lives in stock, plus bombs. So that kind of totally sucks. Not being able to read the language ==> unintentionally terrible decisions.

But, on the bright side it's the first time I've ever cleared and qualified for the loop (obviously), and was by far the best run of DOJ I've yet had. Broke the 200m mark for the first time, and finally have a score that makes the forum leaderboards.

I also got 2x Ketsui clears, one of which was a new personal best. Getting closer and closer to the Omote loop; I can feel it just barely out of reach.

And I lettered again in Ibara for the first time in months during a live run. Such an awesome feeling you don't even know. :D

I had my proudest gaming moment.

After an epic run of Caldrius AC at my arcade where I only died once in the run I literally doubled the high score on the machine. Aparently I had an audience because right when the credits began to roll A Japanese guy came around from the other side, gave me an approving look, and applauded.

Absolutely the single best moment of my entire gaming career.

nice one! :D must of felt awesome! i've recently gone back to caladrius (360) i want to get good at this one but i don't see it happening...the stages themselves seem ok,it's just the boss patterns and some bullets that seem tricky to see.

Reached 2-5 on Dodonpachi. Not satisfied with this run though, i had to bomb the stage 1-6 boss' final attack. I'm trying to get a run that reaches 1-5 boss with maximum bonus, then recover from bomb usage on 1-5 boss by 1-6 boss and then carry the maximum bonus till 2-3. I have the theory down in stage practice though i need to put it all together. The biggest bitch right now is to not die to 1-6 bosses final attack. Nasty.

EDIT: Goal is 120m btw.

A trick I found really useful is to use, I believe it's Sophia's blue shield, (it's pretty much the best shield in the game) tap your usage of the shield to cancel bullets instead of holding down the button. It will make that shield last a lot longer especially in boss battles.

God no it ruins the whole thing! You don't even have to learn a single pattern if you use it.

If you promise not to plow through with the shield I'll write you a detailed SD on exactly how to clear with custom Caladrius and scoring tips. Interested?

Well,I don't have the DLC characters,so it looks like I can't cheat my way through the whole thing! So yeah,I would be interested, thanks! I've had the game for ages but must admit I havn't spent a lot of time with it probably only a day's worth of serious play...best i can do so far is up to stage 4 boss.

EDIT: i played with a custom caladrius, same as the video link.My score was better but my survival was worse than when i used the default caladrius...

Haha! Don't worry,I would have cheesed my way to a 1cc with it! But realised that as I don't have the DLC characters I'll have to do it a legit way!

It's just because you aren't used to it and the approach is different. Kei3 makes it much easier to survive than Caladrius3, but it's used in a more aggressive manner. Maria1 is chosen specifically for scoring purposes so it's lower damage may well negatively affect your survival chances if you aren't used to it.

Also I assume you are using Yumi's video? Yumi is a total boss at this game, so it might be difficult to emulate their style until you are more comfortable with surviving.

To that end I will be updating the GD into an ST, starting with a detailed guide to how to clear efficiently with custom Caladrius. It may take a bit, but I'll let you know when I finish it so you can use it.

To help your motivation though, getting to stage four boss isn't bad at all, especially since you haven't put that much time in. Stage 5 is actually pretty easy if you have bombs for the boss. Stage 6 is what's really going to determine whether you have what it takes to clear or not. Console stage 6 is stupid hard and frustrating. It's vastly toned down in AC.

Yeah,it was yumi's vid.it wasn't so much trying to emulate the run,it was just copying the customisation...I mainly get killed by silly stuff that I forget from run to run.seeing as I flit from game to game at the moment,so my memorisation isn't that great with it at the moment...but it grew on me the one day I sat down with it properly,so I definitely want to get better at it.i've read the guide you've put together so far,it's pretty good (and helpful).i love that you were dedicated enough to the game to put the guide together after you cleared it! I wish everyone did that! Cheers!

I just got the 1CC of Caladrius (no DLC characters)! I DID IT! Feeling very elated right now.

My god, what a relief! I love this game, but pretty much three months of solid playing and failing have pushed me to the point that just wanted to 1CC it and never see it again.

But I just adore Caladrius. I love the pace and flow, the speed, the weapon strategising mechanic, the way like Progear it lets you build your own way to play the game and your own scoring route, which may become a personal memorising thing, but it's not like constrained memoriser shmups where you are forced to adopt a certain route; it's still very freeform to play. There's bullet cancelling, sure, but in limited ways that force you to really consider your approach to the game.

If I can 1CC it, it can't be super tough, but it is for me the hardest shmup I've 1CC'd, simply because of how hard stage 6 and those bloody sniping indestructible enemies are. I 1CC'd it, so anybody should be able to really (if you put the hours and hours and hours in! Or if you;re a decent player it probably takes a few tries!

I owe ACSeraph and Mero many thanks for their advice. And how do I repay ACSeraph?

ACSeraph, I'm afraid I just beat you score (though not with my 1CC. It was a non-1CC score). I imagine you'll be able to come back and stamp all over it!

Oooh. I mean, I'm not a high level shmup player by a long stretch; I'm quite average at best. Probably averaged just under a credit a day. But it was more like a three credit session once every few days. Sometimes a week off; sometimes a quick game every day.

It was all about clearing the game with enough lives and bombs in stock to make it through stage 6. Even managing to one-life to the stage 5 boss wasn't enough for me to 1CC it a few days ago! Stage 6 is hell!

Awesome man congratulations! I'm glad that the GD ended up being useful to people. I'll be working on a better 2.0 version in the next few weeks.

The score I have posted here could definitely use some work. Individually I can no miss every stage except stage 6, but I've never done it in a single run and I've been out of the (console version) of the game for a while now playing other stuff. You're right though, I think it's about time to jump back in! I could definitely clean up some areas for scoring too.

Oh and on a side note just to tell you how toned down stage 6 is in AC, I actually no missed it on the run that I mentioned earlier.

Kinda did it. Not a 1CC but I made the top ten in DFK BL Type-B bomb. With a higher stage 1 score against the #1 too. I got stage 1 and 2 pretty optimized, stage 3 halfway till the midboss. Gunning for a 1CC, Hibachi here I come.
